More water needed for poaching eggs
Whoever came up with the idea of a egg boiler is a genius. My soft boiled eggs were perfect, and the poached eggs were great, but I had to top up the water with the poached as as it switched off after 3 mins, checked the water and it had completely evaporated, next time I will try adding 70ml instead of 55ml water and see if that does the job. Otherwise well pleased with my purchase.

Pie steamer
Excellent. Being of a certain age I bought it to try steaming mince beef & onion pie. Had to top up water once or twice but what a result. Poached eggs & boiled eggs top drawer too. Well happy

Good balance of features of capabilities
Been searching for egg boilers and poachers and the units that are available out there only do two poached eggs at a time or have some quirks with use. This one is simple on/off button and cut off when the water reservoir is empty so you add water based on the time you need it. Boiling eggs works as expected following the instructions, be sure to pierce the egg as instructed. For poaching, it takes a bit of experimenting with the timings. What I found that work so far is to grease the tray with butter, and use eggs in room temperature. Then adjust the timing to suit. I haven't tried making an omelette as seems a bit easier to just pull out a pan and actually brown as needed The additional tier is great to steam e.g., vegetables, use your own ramekin

Great versatile egg cooker, but not perfect
I was going to buy an 8 egg boiler, but went for this because of the flexibility to do 16 plus poached and even omelettes. I found it difficult to poach to my liking, whites cooked and yolk runny. Will experiment a bit with this, but it seems you have to undercook the whites or overcook the yolk. Brilliant kit though and the stylish metal appearance with the blue light makes it look good in the kitchen. Everything dismantles for storage. Just remember to keep enough eggs in as your consumption will inevitably go up if you buy this!

Poor instructions
Instructions totally lacking in detail for varying quantities of eggs - only talks about 8 or 16 eggs and the instructions for hard boiled eggs suggests using less water than for medium boiled. I don't like hard boiled, but someone asked me to do a batch of 12 - I guessed at 100ml of water - they say that the eggs are perfect - I say that the smell was perfectly foul. I tried 2 soft boiled eggs and it was a disaster - whites too runny - reintroducing a topped egg in to the egg boiler is just asking to make mess - stupidly I can't remember how much water I used, but it may have been a mistake to have using warm-hot water from the kettle - I don't like waste, but looks like an experiment is necessary on several batches - any over set eggs will feed the bin or my hard boiled egg loving neighbour. Unit stays warm even when front switch is turned off, so be sure to switch off at the mains. Have seen a very odd review showing a picture where the water minerals have discoloured the heating plate - that is nothing to do with the boiler! I thought that I was now in soft water area, but there is enough residue to discolour the heating plate - really should have scrubbed harder immediately after first use, will have to use limescale removing chemicals at some point. I had a chicken resemblant boiler years ago and that was perfect - should have looked for that again - but I will persevere to try and get this to make to perfectly soft boiled eggs.

Amazing value for money, very simple to use and easy control of desired level of cooking, and not having a buzzer is a real plus
If you've never used and egg cooker, you really must give them a go. You see them in catalogues, shops etc, and think what a lot of faff for just boiling an egg... However, by using a precise measurement of water each time, you get perfectly cooked eggs, reliably to the texture you like. The device then turns off and goes into a keep warm setting. Additionally this really is the quickest way to boil an egg as they start cooking almost immeidately as so little water is used. This device has one huge advantage over many, that it doesn't have a buzzer so you have to rush around the house back to the cooker to switch it off, it simply goes into a keep warm mode and keeps the eggs until YOU are ready for them. Typically it takes around 3 minutes for soft boiled eggs, a little longer for hard boiled. Also this device has a much simplier instructions, and you only need to remember the amount of water for 1-8 eggs or 9 to 16 eggs (I've never needed to cook this many but assume it works well with two levels as well as one. If your into body building or just need to feed a family lots of eggs, or run a bed and breakfast this really is ideal, and mine gets used several times a day. It also comes with handy trays for making coddled or 'poached' eggs, similar to the ones you get in McDonalds, only nicer!

useless piece of kit
ok for boiling eggs but absolutely useless for poached egg as the yolk is hard before the white starts to cook. The omelette is ok if you are feeding a small child.
