Are the screw holes really 1/2” in diameter as shown on the schematic of the hinge?

No, the holes are standard size used on hinges in the US. I installed them on a bedroom door which was a simple process of removing the old one, installing the new one. Lube them good with WD40 before installation, it will prevent them from squeaking.

How man hinges will you need for a 2'-6" hollow core door?

For your inquiries, one single middle hinge will be recommended to install on lightweight (hollow core) doors while two hinges on any heavy doors (solid core). Sincerely hope our suggestion would be helpful for you. Should you have any other inquiries, please feel free to let us know. Thank you.

Do these hinges come apart to take off a door without unscrewing the hinges from the door?

Hello customer, Thank you very much for your support and attention to our product. The product you are asking cannot be opened without unscrewing the hinge. ;Please check the video in the link; https://www.amazon.com/Hosom-Inches-Hinges-Brushed-Nickel/dp/B07Q2TQZ85?th=1
