Xpelair 93224AW 4-Inch Standard Bathroom Ventilation Wall/Ceiling Extractor Fan - White

A basic fan, easy to fit, reasonable quiet. One review complained about lack of L/N wiring markings, they aren’t marked but are shown in the instructions.

Bought this to replace a 26-year-old extractor which had gone yellow with age, and was letting down the look of my recently redecorated bathroom. I was surprised at how cheap this was (just over £10 for the standard unit); it is a lot sleeker and better looking than the one it replaced. The fan is fairly quiet when first turned on; after a few minutes it does get a little louder (or perhaps this is a characteristic of mine). However, this doesn’t bother me as it is no louder than the unit it replaced. I guess an assessment of the noise is subjective, depending on what it is being compared to. Fitting was very straightforward with the exception of one major oversight. On the basic model, the terminals in the choc block are not labelled as L and N; the instruction manual does not make it clear either. To air on the side of caution I telephoned the manufacturer (Xpelair is a subsidiary of Glen Dimplex, the telephone number is within the packaging). They advised me that the terminals should have been labelled (?!), and that the Live feed is the left hand/top terminal, the neutral is the right/bottom one. I have taken a photo and labelled it up to assist future customers. This is a huge oversight on an otherwise great product; I imagine that wiring it up incorrectly would probably damage the unit. Anyway, having installed the unit I am very impressed. This was not an expensive product - I spent more on two coffees and a slice of cake the other day - however, on the other hand, it is a very simple product consisting of a basic electric motor and some plastic blades! So would I expect to pay much more? Probably not! I don’t expect this to last forever, however as things currently stand I am pleased with it. It looks fantastic and is much more aesthetically pleasing than the older, bulkier models. Does what it says on the tin; would recommend. Will come back to this review in 3-4 months and report on whether it is still working.

Easy to fit and does the job

Certainly does extract but I now have a brown residue coming out of the center of the fan where the motor and circuit boards are housed I suspect that water has collected in there as steam has cooled given that there is zero waterproofing in or around the cover plate. I wouldn't bother with this again I'd invest a bit more money for a better quality extractor fan

The internal connections are bottom-facing. I had to fix it upside-down because I didn't have enough cable (I was replacing an older fan). Sod's Law - the mounting holes don't match the previous unit, and it isn't quite the sane size. Such is life :-)

Very easy to install, it didn't quite fit in like my old one as it was a bit smaller, luckily they front popped off the old one and fitted on the new one, so i didn't have to go tile any of the gaps, its quite enough i don't notice the noise unless i go and listen out for it, very happy with it and it's been running fine for the last 2 months, any DIY person should be able to fit it no problem, I'm no expert but i had it in running in about 15 minutes

Easy to install. just replace the old one with this. reasonable noise not the quietest
