Superb drive. Fast and reliable.

The drive is perfect for backups and with the 5Tb capacity there is plenty of room for Time Machine backups and extra data storage. I personally partitioned 2Tb for Time Machine and 3Tb for data storage which is perfect for my use. This is not an SSD so don't expect lightning performance but for normal backups and data storage usage that is in a small package its fine. Plus it look nice.

I have bought several LaCie hard drives through the years and find them to be very reliable. This most recent 5TB LaCie purchase is to back up my Music and Photo libraries as the two oldest LaCies did not have sufficient storage for my ever expanding Libraries! I do not have much technological knowledge but was able to set it up from following the instructions presented in a small booklet included with the HD and check the information once the 'backups' had been completed.

I have two of these drives now, one as a back up to the other. Good amount of storage space. Speeds vary depending what’s being transferred or copied.

5TB of storage with 3 years of data recovery protection what more can you say? Well it would get 5 stars if Lacie included a USB C to USB 3 cable, you just get a USB C cable.

Every time I buy a LaCie drive - and I've bought a few over the years - something goes wrong. They really are the most unreliable drives I've ever used. In the past it's always been the power supply on desktop drives that failed. I'd given up buying them, as they were more expensive than drives not so 'designed for Macs'. Then this portable one caught my eye. All was well, it seemed the curse was lifted. That is, until after the return date expired. Now it's developed a habit of disconnecting from my Mac Mini unexpectedly. It also takes a lot longer than my other connected drives (some with larger capacity) to mount. Disk Utility doesn't even see it on those occassions, Very disappointed, but I should have known better.

This drive failed in less than a year. Sept 2025, and it died on me today. Has a rattling sound.

Works as expected, yet no complaints so far. USB-C is a plus. I'm never going back to WD because of how unreliable they are.
