It appears from the reviews that this is so but need to know for sure before ordering. can this charger charge the genuine canon lp-e17 batteries?

Yes, all Lemix chargers are designed for the manufacturers original battery. They will also charge the vast majority of 3rd party batteries. The only exception to this is where a third party battery has been imprecisely manufactured i.e. is a little too long or short making it tight or loose in the charger. Is this suitable for canon eos 760d? thank you

Yes, I believe so. The EOS 760D uses the LP-E17 battery same as my M5 - I can recommend this charger.

Does this work for a 5d mk2 battery?

No. You need to use Lemix (LPE6) ultra slim USB charger instead. Please use below link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01211R47C

Will this charger work on non canon batteries

As long as its the equivalent to the lp-e17 it should do. The charger itself isn't a canon charger so it would be a bit odd if it only charged genuine batteries.
