Hoe many aa & aaa batteries can it hold? there is no quantity info.

A lot! I’d say several dozen AAAs if just that size alone. If just AAs , probably a couple of dozen.

I tested old AAA battery and showed RED. Tested AAA that was fresh from a new pack not expired, yet it flashed RED.Is something wrong with mine?

I bought this item as much as a store for used batteries as anything else. I used to find batteries all round the house, invariably spent. Now I can quickly test the battery to check if the issue is with the product (mostly toys) or the battery. Once confirmed it is the battery I chuck it in and twice a year bring all the spent batteries for disposal. It as a little larger than I expected but this is handy when storing all used batteries for a six month period.
