Q: How effective is this cowl at keeping out the rain?

Not sure yet but it will be well tested when winter comes. There is a gap between the base of the cowl and the chimney can. How can this be filled, I wonder?

Your guess is as good as mine, they rotate with air movement so unlikely bees would want to go there, especially if chimney live all the time I have a huge hive at my place and they never look at my cowl but have had a them in chimney before so beware, it is possible.

I really can't answer your question other than to say that the revolving cowl will draw air up the chimney and that may stop the whistling. The cowl does however make a bit of noise when it is revolving but nothing too distracting. Your problem may be door seals and vents on the stove in which case you should contact the manufacturer.

Im not aware of wind limit, i would think it could cope with most uk winds, very smooth operation.i had to change bolt to shorter when attaching adjustable fitting strap, i think a large jubilee clip would of been better. although sits tight in pot.
