Lap Steel Guitar
The Hal Leonard Guitar Method books are quite well known, but this is the first time I have ever used one. I bought it because I aquired a second hand and CHEAP Artisan Lap Steel, and not knowing anything about this type of guitar (apart from their use in Hawaian and Country music) I needed an inexpesive guide book / tutor.I therefore purchased one that I thought would fulfill my requirements.I have not been disappointed. When I have progressed a little further, I think that I may have to obtain something with a bit more detail, but now, and in the forseeable future the book that I have will do very nicely. It is not so complicated that as a geriatric I cannot understand what it is talking about, but contains enough information that I will not get bored.

Some good guidance for various open string tuning.
Good technique guidance but all based on open string tuning. Minimal help with playing minor chords other than chord VI. No help at all with C6 tuning. OK if you use open string tuning but otherwise of little help.

Good starter book
I have worked my way through several chapters and it has helped get me started with my new guitar.

Better to watch a few video lessons on Youtube
Not sure about whether you can learn slide techniquesof from the printed page. Better to watch a few video lessons on Youtube. However, there are loads of good licks both in the book and the audio files. Buy it for the licks.

As described
Reasonable instruction manual for the beginner, lots of questions unanswered but still a good starting place, songs inside are pretty poor unless your a sad sad person. Note to author.......there are a hell of a lot of great lap steel players and songs out there.......don't stick with the average stuff that was available decades and decades ago.

Gettings Started
This is a good book for getting started, gives you some different tunnings (there is no standard tunning of lapsteels) and some good licks. If you have some music/guitar understanding then this is a good book for getting some licks and simple songs. For me it started me in the dirrection that I wanted to go.

Works for me
I can play "normal" guitar but, as a complete beginner to the dark arts of slide guitar, I have to say that this book is exactly what I needed. It has some pretty nifty riffs to try and the addition of a backing track on the CD makes learning the songs real fun.On a more practical level, the format of the book is large enough to make it easy to follow while playing but light enough to balance on a shelf (or music stand). It may not work for everyone, but I like this tutor, it works for me
