DEXAM Anchor Hocking Batter Bowl, 2.0 Litre Tempered Glass

This really is a large jug! I was struggling from the photo to get an idea of size (something to compare it with in a photo would be good). Yes, it is quite heavy, but it would have to be at this size. I wanted it so that I had something to measure the rising of my bread dough. I usually make dough using 1 kilo of flour and this jug comfortably accomodates this quantity of dough. It is very difficult to accurately judge when a ball of dough in a bowl has doubled in size, with this jug you can see exactly where the dough comes to when it goes into the jug, and know for certain when it has doubled. The other fantastic thing is, that because it is clear you can also see the development of the dough, I can see the bubbles forming and know whether the bread is developing that nice, airy, holey texture. The other reason I love this jug is because it has raised measures and not printed ones. All the glass jugs I own eventually lose the measuring marks and become pretty useless for what they were designed for.This means that I have to replace a perfectly 'good' jug to be able to measure again, which seems to me to be very ecologically wasteful.These measures are permanent, so unless I manage to break it (and as it is a very sturdy jug, this seems unlikely) it should be of useful service for many, many years. Aside from breadmaking it is a very useful jug. It is big enough to use as a mixing bowl, it is great for recipes where you need large quantities of liquid and would have to fill a standard sized jug several times and I have even managed to fit it in the bottom of my small fridge. I am very pleased with this jug.

This is an all round excellent jug and kitchen friend. I bought my first having seen my fave youtuber use his for juicing. It's great for that purpose as you can sit a wide sieve over the top to strain pulp. It's great to be using glass rather than plastic and this can also serve as a general measuring bowl or even mixer for batters etc. It has a large capacity with scaled measurements in metric and Imperial that are that is fairly easy to read. It is sturdy, stylish and durable. I also use smaller Pyrex glass jugs and find they are prone to chipping, unlike this, which never chipped. I find the lip easy to pour from without splattering and the handle is comfortable. It is obviously quite a weighty item, which adds to the feeling of quality. This is my second such purchase, I dropped my first ie user error! I expect this to last me a long time and am grateful for Prime delivery so as to have my replacement the very next day.

I brought 2 of these for fermenting Kerfir. They are perfect for this as they are wide mouthed so let the grains get plenty of air. I wanted a large vessel for the fermenting, so I wouldn't have to drain the Kerfir off every day (I'm lazy!). What I do is half fill the vessel with milk on day 1, add more milk on day 2 (filling to the top of the jug and stirring with a spoon so all the added milk mixes with the fermented milk) and then drain off my yummy Kerfir on day 3. I find working with the grains in this way makes for delicious Kerfir of a consistent quality every time. I have been fermenting this way very successfully for several months now. I keep the jug in a box on my counter top with the top closure flaps slightly held open to allow air to get in. Kerfir definitely ferments better in the dark. Darkness is needed to prevent degradation of vitamins and inhibition of the culture. Milk is intended to pass from the mother directly into the child and has not developed protection against light. For those just wanting these to use as a large jug, you will not be disappointed by the quality. They are made from good quality glass and have clear easy to read volume measures. The jug also has a slight dark tint which is attractive.

I had been looking for a batter bowl for ages and decided this one was the best of the bunch. My worry with most of them was that they would be too heavy to lift especially with the contents. This is a substantial size bowl but the handle feels comfortable enough to lift and pour, although I tend to use my other hand to hold the base where I can. It is great for mixing eggs for scrambled egg, cake mixtures, yorkshire pudding batter and I am looking forward to using it for pancake making. It also has handy measures down both sides and is microwave and dishwasher safe. Plus it is a lot cheaper than other well known brands!

I was initially looking for a PRYEX measuring jug, but apparently Pyrex discontinued this 2.0 litre size, and the DEXAM was the only glass one I could find. Still, it looks just as good and does the job just as well. The only drawback is the weight when filled with liquid - it is very heavy and almost requires both hands to lift and manouevre (hence 4-star rating). Better than a cheap plastic one, and overall I am quite pleased with it.

I am really pleased with this jug. It is sturdy, easy to use, safe for oven or microwave, and perfect for whipping up batter or eggs. Had one previously by a very well known brand that cost much more, but was not big enough. This one is just right, and delighted with the price.

This jug is great for making batters (pancake/Yorkshire pudding/cake) as the size allows plenty of room for whisking and mixing, you can then pour batter directly into tins or onto frying pan etc, I also use it in the microwave to cook scrambled eggs, It is quite heavy but for me that's good as it doesn't move when whisking. It also cleans up easily in the dishwasher and as the measurements are embossed in the glass and not printed on as many measuring jugs are they will not wash off in the dishwasher. It Is an American brand and shows cup measures. (1 cup = 8 fl oz)

Atendeu minhas expectativas ótimo tamanho. Ótimo para micro-ondas e lava louca. Super recomendo.

in un primo momento sono rimasta impressionata dalla grandezza di questa caraffa, ma per colpa mia che non ho immaginazione. sono due litri e quindi e' grande ma bassotta. l'aspetto e' robusto con quel vetro cosi' spesso e temperato. sono contenta del beccuccio che aiuta nel versare liquidi e semiliquidi. lo cerco sempre nelle pentole e pentolini o anche semplicemente terrine, ma sembra che i costruttori non ne capiscano l'utilita'. anche l'asticella graduata con doppia scala sia in inglese-americano sia italiano europeo e' ottima. finalmente non devo sempre andare a veder a quanto corrispondono le misure di tazze o pinte o non so che altro. non l'ho ancora usata ma sono sicura che andra' benissimo sia per contenere che per sbattere, specie la panna che di solito tende a schizzare. speriamo non cada altrimenti certamente ho paura che si rompera'. per ora sono soddisfatta dell'acquisto. avevo intenzione di comperare quella della pirek che secondo me e' anche ottima, ma con uno o due euro in piu' ho avuto una misura doppia. ottime tutte e due. io ho gia' una pirex. consegna sollecita e puntuale. tutto ok. consiglio se si ha spazio dove metterla anche se lo si trova essendo utile.

With the more recent problem of measuring cups that lose their markings in varying amounts of time, I was FED UP! I had one of these same capacity from kitchenaid, it did the best till the handle broke off from not alot of trauma. I just want a measuring cup that will not lose the markings that you can wash and rinse and measure and make pancakes with. THIS is the thing. The markings are molded into the glass itself. There is no etchings to weaken the glass and cause shattering, there is no painted on markings to flake off. It is just pure, glass measuring cup goodness that will last with a little care. It is a beautiful thing to behold...the glass is nice and clear and the markings are prominent enough. If you can't see you can turn it and the light will catch on the markings...you could even go over them with your own paint if you wanted. It has huge capacity to measure and dispense large amounts and we use something like this everyday in pouring water...into dogs food bowls, into our sun tea container, into our tabletop icemaker. I don't even wanna cook with it really...just measure sane temperature ingredients and pour. The cost was well worth it and you get a great value. Just don't go bashing it around because you could still chip it. I am so glad I bought TWO of these. An heir and a spare if you will. Anchor Hocking.....if you made THIS in every size, I would buy two each...seriously. You can even paint over the markings if you want and I don't care if they eventually flake off because the glass formed markings will still be there TO MEASURE WITH. I am so sick....and tired....of measuring cups whose markings flake off to the point that you can't measure with them anymore- from the little one ouncers up to this one. "Please save us, you're our only hope....".
