Does this unit record directly onto usb thumb drive, or does it need to be connected to a pc?

This priduct connects via cable to usb port on laptop/pc. Cassette music played downloaded to a media app such as microsoft which converts to a mp? File format. Once in digital format you can upload to your choosen music apps that are out there. It works really well and a number of my old cassette tapes are now in my google you tube music library in the cloud, do play on any device. A good easy product solution and quite easy to use. Yes....insert 2xAA batteries and plug in some headphones and you have got yourself a"walkman". There is no internal speaker.
