Simple, cheap - and it works on our motorhome gas bottles
I'm not sure why other reviewers are struggling with this item. We have two, one for each of the gas bottles in our motorhome, and they seem to be working brilliantly. We tested when the bottles were both full, and they registered as such (remember to leave for at least 10 minutes when first putting onto the bottle before it will show an accurate result). We have now used part of one bottle, and it shows this. A great little item for the money. I doubt it will tell us to the minute when we will run out but, as our bottles are heavy and the back one is hard to remove, it saves us having to lift them and shake ot guess how much is left, and seems to give a very close approximation of usage.

Handy inexpensive if unclear indicator
After running out of gas halfway through cooking our sausages on one of our camping trips I was delighted to find this indicator and took it on our latest trip. The indicator is about 4" high and our gas bottle (907) is about a foot high with a ridge in the middle, the magnet is a little ridged and doesn't curl around your bottle so sits a little proud. You can estimate initially where your gas level is by either shaking the bottle, feeling the weight or you can place it up and down the canister when it is in use until you get a reading. The reading by the way is not obvious if you compare it to the leaflet. For some unknown reason on the COLOUR LEAFLET they have chosen to illustrate the readings in black and white! Also on the leaflet they show one column as an indicator and on the actual product there are multiple columns which wouldn't matter if they showed identical readings but they don't. Once in place and using the gas bottle, the left column seemed to have blue colouring and right column, which I took as the actual indicator, showed orange at the bottom, yellow in the middle and pale green to the top. Looking at the picture (if we are to assume yellow as the level) it appears that gas is low and there is about 2" left in the can. I assume that it works because we did see some change in colour when the gas was in use but do you read the orange, yellow or green colour? And I still don't know how long the gas will last me even if I do have 2" left because the colouring is vague and I don't know the rate at which it is burning. This coupled with the poor instructions made the product difficult to use. I can't really complain because it is a good price, it's compact and gives you a rough idea of what is left in the can so it is worth a punt. With better instructions it could be a good product.

Gas indicator
Good little item, in constant use in caravan. Seems to do what it is supposed to do, just sticks to the bottom of the bottle and changes colour when the gas runs out.

After proper testing, this is useless
The colour does change, and you do get an idea of how much gas has been used - but its not perfect, it won't predict exactly when the gas will run out. Useful if you want an idea of whether you've got a 1/4, 1/2 or 3/4 bottle. But not much more than that. Update: The level reached the "bottom" by the end of my last trip - since then, I've had a BBQ, ran the hot water in my campervan and the gas hob & grill for 2 more days. And the bottle is still going. Update #2: Remember, this "Level Indicator" said "Empty" 2 trips ago - Well, I weighed the bottle last night. According to Calor, an empty "6kg" bottle weights 9kg: My bottle currently weighs 10.5kg, so its still 1/4 full. I'm afraid this product is useless. You're much better off buying a luggage weight for a few quid.

Simple and Effective
To those who use bottled gas for cooking or for BBQing,as I do a lot, will find that this inexpensive and reusable indicator is all that is necessary to warn when gas is running low. It is really pretty accurate as well . I have one also for my BBQ at my house in Mallorca and it will be a boon there as it is a way of life in the sun! I highly recommend this product.

Does what it says
Superb little product. It is small and neat and gives a good indication of contents. Lets you judge when to change over on two-bottle installations and saves the worry of running out or returning a bottle which is not completely empty. Could i suggest tying a piece of string to it so that if the site owners change a bottle for you they don't accidentally take it with them as it is small and will be at the bottom of the bottle. I've lost 2 so far before I thought of this.!!

Bottle Marker
Sorry folks but it didn't work. Ran out of gas this weekend with no indication given. Maybe I 'installed' it incorrectly but I can't see how that could be as I only had to stick it to the bottle by what I think is magnetic attraction.

What a gas
Simple to use and does the job. Although I carry a spare full gas bottle in the caravan I have been caught out once. My wife was not amused when half way through cooking a meal. It's also embarrassing when you run out of gas with all your friends anticipating your burnt offerings from the BBQ
