Ok purchase.
It's not too bad. I should have read a bit more about the product before I purchased. It did say that there was a back up battery, yes, there is but I though I could have it as a stand alone init without it always being plugged in as I want to move it round some days and it's more hassle unplugging etc. The instructions weren't that brilliant either, I've just had to do a trial and error and got it to work but I know there are more options that I could be doing to work it correctly. All in all, a bright display. The tone of the radio is not brilliant but it will do for a bedside unit. If it's something simple you want, purchase this but hope you can work the instructions out.

Brilliant clock radio.
I am really pleased with this clock radio. All the controls are easily accessible and easy to use. Having presets is so much easier than fiddling around with tuning. The sleep option means you can get the radio to play from 15 mins to 2hrs. The display is big, seriously big, so that even my very shortsighted eyes can see the display in the middle of the night without glasses. This is a first! To complete the picture it looks nice and doesn't take up too much space. Yes it is a good buy and less than a lot of radio alarms on the market.

Brilliant alarm, frustrating volume control
Maybe I mis-heard, but my wife said she likes “a massive CLOCK in the bedroom”, so I bought this. It is huge! Probably twice the size of any previously owned clock radio, which obviously makes it a breeze to read the time through squinty, bleary eyes. The radio is simple to digitally tune, and holds on to the station very well; the dual alarms a doddle to set (either radio, or buzzer). Nice feature is that the alarm slowly rises in volume increments, starting almost inaudible, it rises in stages and is a great gentle wake up. It also means that when it goes off for me at 04:50am, I’m woken and the alarm turned off before it manages to wake the missus. One gripe though. When you switch it on to just listen to the radio, it starts at a really loud pre-set volume...don’t know why, it doesn’t appear to be adjustable, but if you’re in bed early morning, or late at night, and you’re looking for a bit of gentle listening, be aware that you’re going to be sharing it with the neighbours for the time it takes you to frantically find and press the volume button.

Badly designed.
I bought this because I thought it looked good, sleek and sophisticated, shiny black that will look good with any décor, large easily visible numerals. Unfortunately it is badly designed because the buttons are very shallow and difficult to see and feel in low light (which is often the case when using an alarm clock, either setting it at night or waking up in the wee hours). Also, the typeface that identifies the button functions is so tiny that it is difficult to read them in broad daylight let alone semi darkness. You find yourself pressing the wrong button time and time again. Another thing is that the volume is digital so it can only be turned up or down in steps as opposed to being able to set it exactly to your preference. I found this to be a shortcoming as the lowest volume, for when I have it playing music to fall to sleep to, is a little too high. The instructions are a poor translation from Chinese into English which left me unable to figure out how to set the duel alarm function (when you set one alarm for yourself and one for your partner if they need it at a different time). I've played around with it and discovered that it exists but I'm not certain how to use it. These things aside, the product is pretty good although I expected better from a well-known brand. The alarm (if chosen in preference to the radio) is sufficient to make me without being horrible (I had a radio teasmade once that had an alarm that sounded like a pneumatic drill which made one leap to switch it off in desperation). The radio reception is good. I found many stations with crystal-clear sound quality.

Great radio alarm but one flaw
I really like this radio alarm clock, good bold figures for the time and its not lightweight so wont fly off the bedside table when you hit snooze. One flaw and it is very annoying is that the writing above the buttons is a) tiny, b) very faint and c) is actually fading rubbing off with use already. You can barely see what the buttons are for and as I said it is very annoying.

CLOCK RADIO ALARM BY PHILLIPS = QUALITY
This was bought to replace an old model that died of old age. We missed seeing the clock in the night. This one has display numbers that are 4 cm tall with 2 levels of brightness. The Radio is also of good quality, for the price .Delivered in a sturdy box well within the predicted delivery time I am pleased both with the product and the vendor. Very simple to use and set up even for an old duffer like me. Look no further! If a clock radio alarm is what you want,- you have found it.

Disastrous purchase
I have never been so disappointed in anything as I am with this purchase. I bought this clock radio to replace one I bought years ago and which had been so easy to programme and use. Initially I thought I had programmed this clock radio correctly until the next morning when the radio came on and gradually got louder and louder, much too loud for an early morning call, and it appears there is no way to reduce the volume without pressing AL1 to switch the alarm off completely and then turning the radio back on and pressing AL1 again to reduce the sound. The size of the clock numerals are very large, which is what I needed due to poor eyesight, but the function keys are so small that I needed a magnifying glass to see them, and first thing in the morning this was not good at all. Had I not destroyed the box this clock radio came in I would certainly have sent it back for a refund.

Basic alarm clock
Dislikes: Basic functionality / no USB, reception trade-off if you hang the cable you will get a better reception, if not and prefer to not have a black cable hanging on a white wall for example, the reception will be impacted. Likes: The low screen brightness and the size of the screen is legendary. Many other clocks are simply too bright to be able to be used in a bedroom. If the objective is to optimize melanin production and avoiding lights and wi-fi signals at night, this is a good choice.
