what is the hose diameter?

don't but this product - quality is not good and after a few weeks small holes appeared in the hose.

Why different hose diameters, they came as 0.5" inches or even 1". Is it purely related to flow rates?

The sizes are Mainly traditional / historic. But the right size for the job depends on what your water pressure and The size of your water inlet. For example if your inlet is half inch and you attach a 1 inch hose you will get the same amount of water out, but at half the water pressure.

The industry standard for expressing the diameter of 'pipes' [includes flexible pipes 'hoses'] for transport of liquids and gasses is the internal diameter. Given that there is potential for differences in wall thicknesses [ i.e.. reinforced products are often multilayered and therefore the wall thickness is thicker], this leads to various external diameters. The problem then occurs that some retailers incorrectly describe the product by its external diameter while others will correctly describe the same product by its internal diameter. We also have the problem that some products are made to metric sizing while others are made to imperial/inch sizing. However none of this is too critical for flexible hose products, as they are all elastic to some degree and most hose fittings can be made to fit.

I wouldn't buy this, I have had to cut a number of sections out of this hose due to multiple pin holes appearing. I'd spend a little more and buy a better quality product if I were you.
