REVIEW: CS947 Tacima 6 Way Mains Conditioner with Surge Protection
Guys, I bought this, at the marked price, with some trepidation at first. Being a long-entrenched hi-fi / audio fundi, I'm well versed in the advantages of cleaning up the mains input into one's audio equipment, especially via (very costly!) add-on's from the likes of audio luminaries such as Russ Andrews, etc. Simply said, done well, this method of "mains conditioning" has truly dramatic effects in enhancing one's audio sound. This is well proven around the world. So, when I can across this relatively cheap Tacima 6-way mains conditioner, I was immediately interested -- especially at the price asked for -- to use with my secondary audio system which comprised computer storage of music files, tied to CD-burning facilities, acting as a source ( via 3,5mm to RCA cabling) to drive my secondary hi-fi. Long story short, I purchased this Tacima mains conditioner on a whim and, lo and behold, it really works so well! PLEASE NOTE HOWEVER: Like many (newly-installed) hi-fi/audio components, one needs to allow the new components time to "run in"/"bed in." This will not sit well with some sceptical folk, but, truly, one needs to do this -- in every such situation. In other words, install this Tacima mains conditioner properly (easy, just plug it in!) and, making sure that you separate each and every electrical cable from each other (separation is key!) that plugs into the Tacima, including the cable that feeds the Tacima unit, use it then for AT LEAST two weeks. Maybe even three. After that, you will be totally convinced and will be clearly able to hear the now-transformed sound of your system. It's that simple and dramatic. Very obvious improvement in sound. It even works in computer-audio systems by getting rid of all mains-derived noise. Which, by the by, in Britain, is major ... the electrical system in the UK is utterly shocking ('scuse the pun). So, my full blessing for this item. Buy with confidence!

A Surge to buy these!
Well if What HI-Fi say itโs good, it must be :-) It is a piece of artwork (until you plug leads in) and I almost felt like having it on display. I slapped myself round the face and reassured myself I was a Hi-Fi purest and not a fan of the old Lasky Blackpool Illumination type gear. After tucking it away, that should be the end of story and as such it is. I think some people buy this thinking it will add something positive to their system, but in reality itโs about taking the bad away(which is a positive thing :-). If the bad ainโt there it should do nothing except offer you surge protection when your neighbours aerial gets side swiped with lightning or when he tries to resurrect Frankensteins Monster, by plugging him into the mains. Did I do A-B tests? You must be joking. I sat down and put a quality piece of music on that I was fairly familiar with and from memory it sounded the same, and all sounded good so thatโs great! Iโm reassured itโs there if something nasty tries to creep in on the mains. Of course itโs not there to solve earth loop hum and airborne RF interference etc. As a footnote it was advertised with some ferrite core rings which took some low level motor biking sound away. Iโm very pleased with it as it offers six sockets with protection and no noticeable detrimental effects on my Hi-Fi system. Additional note: How I reduced a small existing buzz which seemed to be an earth loop between my power and preamp. I noticed if the preamp lead got near to the Tacima inductor the level increaesed but never totally disappeared by moving the cable away. I played around with the preamp mains lead and noticed in a certain position the noise was greatly reduced. This lead me to make a loop a little bigger than the inductor and move it around. When it was a little bit off Centre the noise almost vanished. I can only guess itโs now inducing noise into the cable out of phase-but it works. See photos. Generally though if you have โno noiseโ- keep your leads away from the inductor. Additional later note: After changing most of the valves in my amps and inserting an equaliser between them all the noise has gone.

Sonic Improvements
Just bought this device after watching a YouTube video from โA British Audiophileโ. I did A/B comparison with and without Tacima CS947, and the electrical interference noise almost disappeared when using Tacima. The noise floor has come down significantly and sound from my B&W CM8s is tiny bit more clear. I would recommend it.

Great value product.
I bought this to protect my hifi. Already use one for my second system, must be over 10 years old and still works well. It protects your expensive equipment from power surges that could fry your amp or suchlike. It also helps reduce RF interference which can spoil sound quality and hence your enjoyment of music etc. This will of course vary depending on the amount of RFI you have, but unless you're prepared to spend big money on reducing it using say Russ Andrews Conditioners then this is a good buy. It has a captive power lead 2 metres long. This should enable you to get it near your separates so you can use shorter runs of your expensive power leads. I reckon it's hard to find a better 6 way Mains Conditioner than the Tacima at @ยฃ40. I recommend it.

Wow!
Hmm, interesting one thisโฆ I have a DAC & Headphone Tube Amp stack next to my recliner which I use for hours at a time a day, to stream music from my IPhone to various headphones and IEMโs. I think itโs pretty safe to say that I spend far too much time listening to music. But itโs by far my favourite thing to do. Well, apart from one other thing which will remain nameless! Anywayโฆ [coughs]โฆ Iโve always been very sceptical of various โaudiophileโ snake-oil. Most especially power supply mods and, that cable quality can noticeably or effectively effect audio quality. However, I was getting v confused by certain things that were happening with my headphone stack. Firstly, at times I was intermittently getting electrical interference noise floor and ground loop hum in my system. Secondly, it felt like on some days the audio quality on my system was brilliant but on other days it was unsatisfying and below par. Tired ears? Different moods? Tired? Happy? Sad? Good day? Bad day? Time of day? Was it meโฆ, was I making the audio quality discrepancies up?! I did some research. Came across various references to audio quality being changed by whether the electrical supply to your equipment was a โcleanโ supply or not, AND that power supply to your home can jump between clean and dirty, dependent on all sorts of factors some determined directly by your electrical supplier - levels of demand, the supply station the electric is being sent from, whether you co-habit in a block, what your neighbours are doing with their electricity etc etc.., Hence why many audiophiles employ Linear Power Supplies which clean and condition the DC power to their amps and Dacs. No point in spending hundreds or even thousands on a linear power supply for my little headphone stack, so went for this fourway as an affordable option. EXCELLENT RESULTS!!! My system now sounds amazing every single time I switch it on, with a completely black and silent noise floor. Itโs even increased the width of the headstage/soundstage if you can believe it?! Not sure how, but with this power conditioner in place the entire musical presentation is noticeably more spacious. Upper mids and highs are far more sparkly and thereโs increased note weight across the board. Finally, itโs given me far more GAIN on my amp. Previous to using my amp volume nob would be pushed to 3 oโclock if I wanted max impact on a fave track. Now I never have to go above 12 noon. Iโm flabbergasted by the improvement this thing has made to the audio quality of my equipment. I take it all back. Iโm now a believer!!!

Does the job it was intended for
Of all the electrical goods I own my hifi equipment is by far my most important to me and having it all surge protected is a must especially as several times in the past I have witnessed other people suffer from equipment failure because they didn't have or believe in surge protection . Having recently moved my equipment to another part of the room the leads on them didn't reach the existing surge protection system so I looked at one expressly for my hifi and eventually came across this particular one, now I must explain that the "claims" of cleaning the electricity input via this I took with the proverbial pinch of salt (still do) I'm not a follower of the " hifi snake oil" community and rather, I purchased it on price being similar to the cost of my existing one ... in retrospect DOES it make a "sonic " difference? Well, I'm still enjoying listening to music so sort of yes because I don't worry about my enjoyment being ruined by a spike or surge damaging my equipment, build quality as it stands is about as good as you could expect from something that has to comply with the current electricity safety regulations and as all these things should do it runs silently, lastly the mains lead is quite generous and allows me to tuck the unit discreetly away a top buy just for the peace of mind it gives.

Peace of mind.
I bought this because in our bedroom we have a DAB radio, the 12 volt power adapter decided to go bang. This caused our 50 inch TV to stop working and destroy the hdmi circuitry in the satellite box. So an expensive event. We also have a intermittent problem with power clicks from the boiler when the hot water is turned on and off, this causes dropouts on the TV and satellite. As this is a mains conditioner I decided to pay out for this instead of another TV or satellite box. Since its been installed we have had zero dropouts, it has a TV, satellite box, DAB radio, amplifier and Blu-ray player plugged in. I'm so impressed with it I've just bought a second one for our equipment in the living room as we recently had the 65 inch TV have a power supply failure, another expensive replacement. I now feel confident while watching TV in the living room as we have the same setup there with, obviously the same power spikes happening, even from the tumble dryer. We have no such problems now thanks to this excellent Mains Conditioner. Recommended.
