A necessary but effective way of dealing with small rodents.
These are traditional rodent traps. They work well as long as you take a few simple steps. Place them where the rodents are likely to have an established run. Don't handle the traps too much. This is to ensure they won't have too much human scent on them. Use a bait that is tricky to remove. I found that pieces of a sticky caramel sweet worked well. Finally, try to set the trap so that the slightest thing will set it off. These little rodents are light footed. I noticed droppings on the bench in my garage and felt I had to set traps to protect valuable material. These traps have been very effective, while I am working on preventing the rodents from getting in at all. I would show a photo of both traps being successful (you know what I mean) but it would breach the community guidelines.

Basic but work.
We have a stables full of hay and horse feed and have become the local restaurant for rats. We don't like having to kill things but they were even eating their way through plastic bins, wood panelling and wire netting to get in so something had to be done. We set all six of these bated with Peanut butter and four traps worked on the first night. The traps. These are like big mouse traps and are basically constructed but easy to fix if they break or fall apart. The springs are strong so the kill will be instantaneous. They are easy to set but mind your fingers as sometimes they snap back as you place them on the floor ! Overall. Basic traps that do the job and are easy to fix when they break. Not always that easy to set but a little practice makes perfect here !

Newer version did not work
I have purchased these before, their effectiveness 100%! I decided to buy some more as I was so impressed how effective these traps were. Unfortunately the ones sent are different in that the build quality and materials used are inferior (this is assuming that the second purchase was new stock/ updated version?) The original ones I received, the spring retaining bar and bate plate are made of anodised steel. The retaining bar is straight and the bate plate is of a heavier gauge steel than the ones I’m returning, also the “U” tack holding the bate plate is the same and has a large space between it and the plate enabling it to move freely. The result is these traps are more sensitive, resulting in 100% success. The ones I’m returning, the retaining bar and bate plate are galvanised steel. The bate plate is made from a light gauge steel and is attached with a staple and has next to no gap between it and the bate plate, resulting in it being stiff to move. The retaining bar now has an offset bend in it rather than being straight, this again results in there being too much faction to trigger the trap. The result is, the unwanted visitor was able to dine freely on three of the traps without suffering the consequences… Success rate 0%

Simple and effective - if your mice are stupid
These good old fashioned traps are very sensitive to pressure (obviously that's the point!) so it can take a bit of practice to actually set them without triggering them yourself. I found that heavier baits made this more of a problem as it weighed down the pressure pad and made it more difficult to set the trap. Once I got the two traps set with quality street chocolates (left over from Christmas) as bait, I was pretty pleased to catch 3 mice in the first 48 hours. I'm sure all were killed cleanly and instantly but one was quite badly 'messed up' leaving a pretty gory clean up job, and I'm not very sensitive about these things. I would therefore not recommend these for the faint-hearted. However, the real issue is that my mice grew wise to these traps very quickly and for the next few days, despite trying different baits and trap positions, they kept managing to take all the bait off the trap without setting it off. Only once more did a trap even get triggered, but without catching anything. I realised that in fact these traps had gone from helping to making things worse, as all I was actually doing now was feeding the mice (and therefore encouraging them) without catching any. At this point, I stopped using them and bought the Electronic Mouse Killer by the same manufacturer to finish off the job. This proved to be very successful, more humane and not gory/messy at all, so I guess this would be my recommendation. In summary, these simple traps do work but in my experience the success is only short lived. Might still be worth a try as a cheap solution to a minor mouse infestation.

Traditional traps that work well
I had mice visiting my garden shed and nibbling stored plant bulbs. I set two traps, bated with small cubes of cheese. I caught 3 mice within four days. End of problem !

Muy efectivos para esos ratoncillos de campo pequeños que se cuelan en los garajes, y que personalmente me dan mucha repulsión. Funcionan muy bien.

Terrible, mouse can just eat off the trap without going off. Tried several different types of bait

Only one of the traps was working, not worth the effort returning it...
