Early days but looks promising
I received this scope a couple of days ago. Light has been poor and although dry there has been a lot of water vapour in the air. Hardly ideal conditions for spotting but I’ve still been quite impressed. At lower magnifications the image is sharp. Get to 40X the image starts to deteriorate at 60X it is fuzzy. You expect that at high magnifications in poor light. Today the light was better and the scopes performance was enhanced. Image quality was much better. Today I loved it and chuckled away at how good it was. Ok, it’s not a Ziess or similar and you won’t get a top end scope for less than £400 but this is a nice, good value for money bit of kit. It’s easy to set up and easy to use. Robust construction. Just get a decent tripod as at the sort of magnification this can produce any slight vibration is going to cause fuzziness. Early days but well pleased so far. Looking forward to the spring and summer.

Disappointing image.- Updated March 15 - Replaced and improved
I've had this scope for about a week. I bought it partly due to the reviews on various websites and forums, as this seemed to be the sub 600 benchmark scope I also own a pair of Endeavour 8x42 binoculars which are fantastic. That said this scope has left me a little underwhelmed. My first use was in fairness on a day with poor lighting. The image seemed incredibly flat and washed out. I then used the scope a few days later in bright, sunny conditions. This was a big improvement overall (though nowhere near as good an image as my binoculars). What I don't like: The image...it's good up to 30x magnification, but above that there's a visible drop in light transmission and the image becomes blurry. Eye relief is good, but I do sometimes get some vignetting. In some poorer light conditions I've had purple fringing on the lens The fine focus is very hard to get right. The objective lens cover that's part of the stay-on case has no retainer so it just falls off. The shoulder strap included with the case. It's just nasty. What I do like: The included stay-on case - apart from the objective lens cover Nice, easy to remove lens cover Retractable lens hood Weight/ portability I'm currently considering returning the scope. I could cope with the dislikes if it wasn't for the image quality. Overall after being thoroughly impressed with my binoculars, the image of this scope just seems lacking. Maybe I have a defective scope? UPDATE March 15 I returned the scope and bought another. This unit sees better, and I can only assume I had a bit of a dud - though doesn't speak volumes for the QC. It's not a massive improvement but it's enough to mean I'm keeping it. It's excellent up to around 40x (the prior one tailed off noticeably at 30x), and acceptable at 60x.

Excellent scope. A lot clearer and brighter than ones ...
Excellent scope. A lot clearer and brighter than ones I have tried priced above £1000. I would definitely recommend trying the Endeavor HD 82A before wasting your money on a more expensive scope of inferior ability.

UPDATED REVIEW: A useful addition to a pair of binoculars!
Bought this scope as a birthday present for my other half for our new birding hobby, having read positive reviews on various websites and also from personal positive experience of owning a pair of the excellent Vanguard Endeavour ED 10x42 binoculars. The image with the scope was bright, but sharpness wasn't great, even at the lower end of magnification; and frankly I wasn't able to see much more detail than with my 10x binoculars - rather defeating the object of using a scope. So back they went! Still looking out for a sub £1,000 scope that delivers a quality image and reasonable field of view at around 30x magnification. Update: Having read other reviews, I may have received a bit of a dud copy, so have reordered (at significantly lower price now sub £300) and will try again. Fingers crossed this time! OK, so having sent my original copy of this scope back, I risked ordering another which has turned out to be a marked improvement over the first, and so have now updated my review rating from 3 to 4 stars. The image is clear up to approx 40x mag, which is sufficient increase over my 10x mag bins to warrant lugging a scope around. I actually really like using the scope, it's easy to set up (I have it twinned with the Velbon 700R Sherpa tripod - plus Velbon hide clamp and tripod case - which makes it a very versatile bit of kit) and not too fiddly to focus. The rain cover is a snug fit and a useful extra which I keep on it at all times. It's just such a shame that Vanguard's quality control is so poor that it's a bit of a lottery whether you receive a decent copy or not. If, though, you are prepared to send your scope back if it's not good enough (which is easy to do, thanks to Amazon) and reorder another one until you're satisfied with it, you should get a very good value scope for your money. (I had the same issue with my Vanguard Endeavour binocs., the second pair received though are excellent).

Poor lens cleanliness, not good quality
On arrival if you shine a light into the front lens, like the one I received you will see very poor lens cleaning on the inside, streaks and all sorts of marks can be seen in the pics. No way of getting into the unit to clean it. Very dissapointed with quality control and most probabley environment they are built in. Compared this to other lenses I have which are pristiene. Would not recommend as not good quality, sending back. Zooming in causes colour fringing, at 60x it wasn't good. 20x was OK but you're not going to get optimum crisp lines with the grime one the lens.

Great value scope
Very pleased with this scope, I think it amazing value for the priced and ED glass too. The stay on cover is a bonus although I found it very difficult to put on as bottom zip far too tight. Handy having the sighting grooves on the side of the lens hood too. If only they sold alternative lenses that would be great.

Returned for refund, may order same as replacement.
OK so this is a great scope, everything was crystal clear, apart from there seemed to be an issue with the scope I received, let me explain, The main body was great, the image was sharp with no visible blurring at the edges, however there looked like there was a bit of dust, so I checked the main body and all was ok, I then checked the eyepiece and there was no dust visible on the outside, so I checked the eyepiece by looking through it and I could still see what looked like dust, upon further inspection I realised that it was actually a chip in one of the internal lenses, this appeared dark when against a light background but refracted light when tilted so you could see it against the interior barrel. The scope has been returned for a refund, will I order another one to replace it, possibly as I did like the image through the scope, fingers crossed the replacement will be fault free.

Calidad/Precio insuperable

High-end spotting scope + correcte klantenservice Vanguard
