I don’t usually buy statues as I like articulation, but this came in at a good price so I decided to take a punt. It’s a very nice PVC statue. I’ve said before, I don’t get the snobbishness of the polystone collecting community (maybe because I generally don’t collect statues) but in my experience polystone is far more likely (almost certain) to break if you accidentally drop it and paint seems to take far better to PVC than it does to polystone, but that’s a matter of preference I guess. This has a lot of nice sculpted details, particularly on the backboard to which Gwen is attached, as you can see in the photographs. Gwen herself is nicely posed and well painted, aside from a few bits of bleeding on the webbing on her arms (which is where she lost a star). In my mind, it’s acceptable to have paint bleeding on a figure because the selling point is the articulation but it’s unforgivable on a statue, where you’re buying something static specifically to display it.I do feel Diamond Select is better suited to statues on the basis their sculpts and paints are generally gorgeous but the articulation on the vast majority of their figures is mixed at best and garbage at worst. If you can pick this up (as I did) for sub-£30 I’d say go for it. As it stands, at standard retail price, these are a tad expensive for what they are but that seems to be the case for a lot of PVC statues these days. I don’t understand how a statue can be more expensive than a fully articulated figure, but that’s just my opinion. It’s a really nice addition to the collection overall.
