Now that some of you have had the compost bin for more than a year, do you still recommend it? Does it stand up to the rigours of a gardening year?

No Makes good compost BUT bulges with weight of contents, splits and door pops off. Will replace with homemade wooden one.

Can it go directly onto flagstone without a base? What does the base do?

There is no base: it's best for this bin to go on to soil - that way earthworms and the like can get into the bin to help with the composting. Also any fluid will be able to drain away.

Is this a complete system or does it need a base as well

No base included, I have just put it on the ground as I have done with previous ones, I don't think any of them come with bases,hope this helps

Is this bin suitable for adding composting worms?

If the bin is on soil, worms will find their way in. If you decide to add some by ordering in, though, please be careful you don't add an aggressive species that will kill off the locals.
