The Ebony product was used on brass buttons. The buttons were degreased and very lightly prepared with fine abrasive paper. The wax was applied carefully, it is very coarse and was difficult to work to any consistency. A second coat removed the first. Another coating was applied and left overnight - it buffed off completely. I tried another coating with similar results then gave up as a waste of time

Perfect for upcycling projects- use this a lot and have ordered other colours. Very easy to apply and effective.

I’m a fan of Goldfinger gilding paste, but true to its name it mainly comes in three shades of gold and a silver. So I tried this one for ageing a Christmas clay gnome I had made. Well it’s sort of works but is by no means the same ease of use ad Rowney Daler Goldfinger.I couldn’t tell if it buffed up to a metallic sheen at all.

I used this to "antique" some brass drawer knobs. Worked really well, don't need to use too much either so good value for money. Hopefully this now meets the community guidelines as apparently my last review was a bit spicy! How can one avoid double entendres with this product?!

Tube burst all over my hand. It's not the same packaging as one I bought before. Wouldn't recomend this one and it's very small for the price

I love this product--It worked great in a time of desperation.Our family was getting over the flu so we were spraying everything with lysol. When we sprayed our new front door knob and handle (which was a dark rubbed bronze finish, the lysol completely destroyed the finish leaving a light, cloudy, matte finish. It was awful and terribly ugly. I desperately looked on line to see if there was a fix and I found that others had run into the same trouble. One blogger I came across said she had tried this product and it helped a lot. So I thought I'd give it a shot. The product was not very expensive, so when I got it I went to work. I masked off the door around the door knob and handle, and rubbed the stuff on. I let it sit for a minute or two and buffed it, and it gave my door handle a darker and shiny look--not too different from the original. It is not as good as the original surface, but it is a HUGE improvement, and not noticeable to visitors any more.I had never heard of this product before that blog post. It is a hassle to clean up since it is not water soluble, but that is what makes it a good choice for the my exterior door handle. Now that I know of this product I will keep it in mind for other restorative and artistic applications. I know they have other colors too.

I researched this product and was impressed by how everyone was recommending it. I purchased the ebony for my kitchen handles as I am sick of them going rusty. When I opened the tube it was a thick almost gritty consistency. I cleaned the handle and made sure it was properly dry before using. When applying it didn't go on smoothly at all. I first tried to buff after a few minutes but it just rubbed it all off. I then tried again and left it on for longer but the same happened. Not impressed and I can't get a refund for it being faulty.

Rub 'n Buff is AMAZING stuff. It works great!The remainder of this is informational and isn't meant as commentary on the product I am reviewing:My girlfriend and I have used this product (and other colors of this product) extensively in cosplay. We found that applying a clear coat to this is problematic but we found water-based polyurethanes work well. Minwax makes one, as does a brand called "Varathane". We have only used the Varathane-branded product but I've been told the Minwax works fine as well. Both are carried @ home improvement stores and also are available here on Amazon.

Kinda disappointed here. I purchased the silver leaf and black metallic. Since this is for the black metallic I'll start with this color. The first thing I noticed was there is no way to keep the ingredients mixed and the first thing that comes from the tube is a black water that got everywhere except where it was supposed to. With a little more coaxing a thicker consistency glob came out but it was GRITTY. Yes, like little bits of...something. I thought maybe they would buff out as I rubbed it on my brass candlestick. It didn't. So obviously it looked very....textured. I was hoping after it dried, maybe it's there to assist the wax to give it a metallic look. It didn't. In fact, it looked absolutely horrible. It never came even close to "metallic", in fact it was a very flat black with tiny bumps. It looked like tar. Take note: rubbing alcohol will completely remove this product from brass. And I used rubbing alcohol to clean the brass before using this product so I'm sure dirt on the brass wasn't the issue.Ok, black was a fail so let's try the silver leaf on the candle sticks. This time no watery fluid all over the place and I couldn't see little bits of gritty anything. This is beginning to look better! But Not a lot better. Not horrible like the black metallic but they still look bad. It shows swirl marks so I waited for it to dry and put another coat and let it dry for over a week. It died to a nice smooth flat gray color. I found a soft cotton clothe to buff it to the metallic look I'm wanting. There was barely any improvement at all. I rubbed a little more and a bit harder and the brass beginning to show. Crap! Maybe I rubbed to hard, or maybe the cotton was to rough a texture. I switched to a silk handkerchief on the next candlestick. There is no softer cloth to buff with. It barely made a dent on the color or metallic look. It went from flat gray to ... Eh.... An ever so slight polished gray.Honestly, I think the silver spray paint you find the hardware store would look more convincing as a true silver leaf. I paid roughly $7 for each tube and found it unable to do what it says it would do. If it can't transform an ordinary brass candlestick, then what can I use it on that it actually looks silver. There was absolutely no hint of metallic anywhere. If I wanted a dull gray, this would be great.Just for giggles I'll reapply some black metallic onto one of the candlesticks and upload a pic of both colors.
