This spin-off from 'The Vampire Diaries' follows the Mikaelson vampire siblings, Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Rebekah (Claire Holt), as they battle to retake control of New Orleans, the city they helped to build. In this season, five years on from the Mikaelson's worst defeat, Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) has become the sole vampire king of the city and holds Klaus captive, while his siblings remain in a state of slumber. When they are revived by Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin), the Mikaelsons race to rescue Klaus but find they also have other ancient threats to face. Excellent stuff. I absolutely love this, shame it's ending after season 5 but like vampire diaries they are all getting older and they are not supposed to age in the programme so it makes sense.

Better than v.diaries
I find the originals to better than the vampire diaries. The stories are a bit more darker and there is more action. Worth a watch. But watch v.diaries first. At least until Klaus leaves.

I love this series, I now prefer it to the Vampire Diaries. Klaus is a great character but my heart belongs to Elijah.

Long live the Mikaelsons and their extended family !
Will be sad to see the end of this series when the fifth and final season becomes available. While Season 4 is a short season, it packed a lot in and it was great to see some former and Vampire Diaries crossover characters added to the mix. I got a little tired of the spelling-casting segments but I never get tired of this show as a whole. Lots of backstory and character building also added to the season. I'd recommend starting with Season 1 but my son got hooked on S4 and hadn't even seen the first 3 seasons or Vampire Diaries. Good extras as well. As a complete aside - I am very ticked off that starting July 1 those of us in Australia can now only order from Amazon Australia -- TV is often WAY behind here so many of the shows I would normally buy and have shipped from the UK will not be available here for a very long time. Boooooooo.
