Teac LP-R550USB USB/CD. Ideal compact music center
I needed to 'downsize' my HiFi and Radio/Tape/CD/Record separates units to a more compact form. having recently downsizes our home, it seemed sensible (necessary...) to do the same with the electronics. The Teac LP-R550USB USB/CD became the clear winner after lots of research, in deciding how to achieve this within a modest budget. The bonus with this unit is that you can record from Tape, CD, or Vinyl records directly to recording CDs or to USB stick or cable to a PC).This is a great item at a reasonable price , highly recommended.Gilbert

This was a great present for somebody who had lots of records
This was a great present for somebody who had lots of records, cds and tapes but nothing to play them on. It looks really smart with a good feeling of quality to it and the sound is really excellent. The record playing functionality is great, with the arm dropping itself onto the record and then lifting itself out of the way and docking when the record is finished - i don't know much about record players, but this looked cool. The only thing it's missing is a bluetooth input feature. I tried hooking up a £40 Phillips bluetooth reciever but the sound was completely flat - it was much poorer than a dedicated bluetooth speaker that we compared - I decided to send the Phillips device back as it wasn't worth using. We didn't try the digitizing functionality, but it looked like there were lots of options. You can add active speakers to extend the sound - I didn't think this was necessary yet as the sounds was really good.I think when buying this you should consider if you need a bluetooth connection, because a cheap one won't do the job in my experience, perhaps an external bluetooth gadget won't work at all due to the input being through a microphone jack rather than something better.

This unit is great for recording your tapes or albums onto a cd
This unit is great for recording your tapes or albums onto a cd. I wanted an all in one player to play my tapes and old LP's and singles that was not too expensive. The sound on this TEAC is excellent and once I worked out how to record onto CD, a simple process to do (very good 'how-to's' on youtube), found it perfect.I am overall very pleased with this unit, the only small gripe is the cassette player, it has stopped a couple of times when fast-forwarding an old tape however, some of my tapes have not seen the light of day since the late 70's so, it may be them being tight rather than the tape deck itself?Cracking buy and highly recommended.

Disappointing for recording
This unit plays CDs and vinyl adequately but I have had problems trying to record to CD and could not capture anything. After a total failure I tried to transfer to computer which was possible but the quality was so bad that it was not worth listening. I was most disappointed after paying a substantial amount of money.

Stylish music centre
This is perfect for me. It's compact and stylish. The speakers are small but give a reasonable broad range. It's never going to be as deep as large independent speakers like KEF or Rogers which I've had in the past. If you want something neat, and good quality, on which to play your old vinyl then this does the trick. TEAC is a good name - I have used their old reel to reel tape players in the past. This music centre will also allow you to convert vinyl to MP3 ... it's all in the manual.

OK but could be better.
Works alright, but for a modern piece of equipment it does not have outputs to external speakers, I appear to be stuck with the incorporated speakers on each side of the box. I presume I could buy an amplifier and use the line output but at this price it should not be necessary, so I'm somewhat disappointed with it.

Prac teac al
Very nicely presented unit overall but do not like the cassette unit being open to dust even with main lid closed, even a small plastic lift off cover would be better and disappointed that this unit for the money not being able to record direct to USB memory stick or card as other less expensive units can.Good sound reproduction of media through own fitted speakers and very easy hook up to my own 5.1 system with good results.Still experimenting with the record facility but this is not as straight forward as it says in the manual but I am sure we will get there with practice.
