Spectrum Noir Metallic Art Sketching Drawing Colouring Pencils, Multicolours, Pack of 12

I bought these pencils this month to use with the pad I purchase at the same time Spectrum Noir Colorista Dark-6x6 Pencil Pad-Victorian Steampunk, Card, Black, 15 x 15 x 1.2 cm . The pencils arrived in a tin as shown in the image but for preference, I moved them into this pencil case with my other coloured pencils UTRO 160 Slots Pencil Case PU Leather Large Capacity Zippered Students Colored Pencils Case Holder Wrap Pouch Organiser Pen Storage Bag Make up Cosmetic Case Bag with Adjustable Strap (No Pencils) (Purple) The pencils go down in a lovely smooth way and have a creamy consistency. Some of the leads (the nickel in particular) were prone to snapping. I have far fewer problems once I had purchased a new helical sharpener. I have included an image of how much I have left after finishing the Victorian Steampunk pad; you can see photos of all my completed work on the review I left for the pad. I am more than happy to recommend these pencils to anyone wanting to try out metallic ones, they are good value for the quality.

Really great metallic pencils, use them frequently, they are slightly creamy and smooth and lay down really well even for intricate work. Best metallics I’ve had.

So amazing to use, ombre and goes great in black cards, die cuts and embellishments. Glides like crayon, gives instant gratification like a metallic pen, but with the fact it's a pencil and won't bleed or run out, an amazing addition to any crafter's drawer!

The metallic aspect comes over very well, but against the black paper they're supposed to be designed for, their colours seem sadly muted (see images, one with flash and one without, using one of the Victorian Steampunk Colorista bookmarks), and they don't at all resemble the saturation of the shades shown on the covers of the <i>Colorista dark</i> colouring books, which is a great pity. They're still lovely colours, though, layering well and showing up beautifully against white or light-coloured papers and cards, and they were certainly worth the price.

Spectrum Noir are amazing both markers and other pens. I do like these metallic as the best ive tried. Creamy and rich in pigment yet if you use them over other dark colours they become more metallic. It needs plenty of layers and then some burnishing and you have a fine product.

Bought because of the good name & was expecting them to be exceptional, they are nice to use, very smooth but they shouldn't be classed as metallic, I've tried them on various coloured paper, but there is no metallic look to them. Very disappointed that a good make could be so poor.

These are a must have for anyone who loves to colour, I was pleasantly surprised on how soft they are and how easily they blend. You don’t just get your big standard gold silver pink blue and green, you get extras of rose gold nickel purple and pink they sharpen well and are very pretty on paper

Always a good quality brand, whats not to like, fab colours comes in easy store metal box, ideal to take on holiday and get colouring in, very relaxing. Arrived in good time. Highly recommend to all.

My mom loves these metallic pencils for her artwork projects. They are definitely 'metallic' as I've noticed many reviews siting the lack of metallic quality. They are well priced and a good choice for adding metallic dazzle to your art projects.

I purchased the Spectrum Noir Metallic Pencils because I wanted some mineral and metal shades for adult coloring books: 1. Coloring gears and metal knickknacks in Daria Song's The Time Chamber (gorgeous and charming, buy it! or the similar The Time Garden -- both available on Amazon); 2. Adding dimension to stellar objects in the NASA Earth & Space coloring book (buy it! it's beautiful, unique and gender neutral -- available on Amazon or Blick); and 3. Creating a dew-like look to flora in books like Fantastic Planet (unique and fun) or Hokusai: Birds, Flowers and Nature (perfect if you love gradients) -- (both available on Amazon or Blick). The Spectrum Noir metallic pencils have been great for these purposes. The colors are saturated and they have a nice smooth laydown that is almost creamy for a metallic pencil. LABELING: The pencil barrels are colored to match the individual color names. The color name is stamped in silver at the ends and is easy to read. PACKAGING: The Spectrum Noir Metallic Pencils come in a metal tin with a convenient hinged lid. Inside is a plastic tray with individual pencil slots to keep the pencils from sliding around. COLORS: The Spectrum Noir metallic set is the only one I've found that contains a rose gold color. Note, there is no red, orange, or copper color (the Derwent metallics do have all of these). Here are the colors and tones: Silver: what you'd expect, about a middle-value grey. Nickel: warm dark grey. Gold: a warm orange-tinted gold, which is nicer than some of the yellow-green golds out there. Yellow: kind of a green-tinted antique gold. Rose Gold: more of a rosy-lavender tinted metallic. Mica: more true to the expectation of a rose gold color (when I hear "Mica" I think dark silver or dark grey). Pink: a warm dark pink. Violet: a purple-tinted magenta and surprisingly useful. Purple: a nice true purple color. Light Blue and Blue: there is a good distinction in value between the two. Green: a teal-tinted medium green. COMPARISON: I have 3 different brands of metallic pencils: Derwent, Spectrum Noir and Faber-Castell (in order of preference.) The Derwents are my favorite, for the reasons already mentioned. Like the Spectrum Noir, the Derwent metallic pencils have good pigment saturation and a pretty smooth laydown. I think the Spectrum Noir metallic line is useful if you want to do a lot of silver tones -- it includes 2 purples, 2 blues and 3 different silver hues (Silver, Mica, Nickel). However, I find the Derwent line offers an overall more balanced selection of metallics for typical use. The Faber-Castell metallic pencils are my least favorite. There is very little difference between the 2 pinks, 2 blues, or 2 greens offered. The Faber-Castell metallics are also the hardest of the 3 brands, which makes them less useful for blending and more useful for tiny spaces. The Faber-Castell metallic pencils are NOT labeled by color and there are NO color names on the box even, which I found infuriating. I had to first go online to find out the names of the colors and then mark them with a label maker to tell them apart. They come in a paper box with NO perforation that would have allowed you to fold it into an easel. SHINE: These are metallic TONED, not super glittery-shiny. Like all metallic pencils, they're metall-*ic* not metal; don't expect high-gloss. Personally, I find that the obvious shiny metallics have very limited use and am happy with the Spectrum Noirs. If I want something to actually look like shiny metal I'll achieve that with shading and blending. Instead, I use the shiny metallics (like Prismacolor Verithin or Premier Soft Core Metallic Gold) when I want a gold foil or stamped look to a design. However, it's worth noting that you can also layer the Spectrum Noir metallics on top of the Prismacolor metallics to add more shine to the Spectrum Noirs if needed, while still keeping the main Spectrum Noir metallic hue. BLENDING: Though they're really not made for this, I've found the Spectrum Noir metallics do blend well if using a light hand and building the values in layers. (I successfully did a 3-color gradient with them.) I've also been experimenting with using the Spectrum Noir metallics with the Derwent Blender & Burnisher set (available on Amazon). The Blender pencil does soften strokes and edges, and I haven't noticed and reduction in shimmer with it. I had hoped the Burnisher would add a high-shine quality to the metallics, but it really doesn't seem to make a difference with any of the brands. I think it is meant for use with traditional colored pencils, not metallics.
