MasterClass Stainless Steel Spiked Carving Tray, 38 x 26.5cm, Silver

An excellent item which is well worth having, and looks good whilst carving your Christmas/Sunday roast. It makes the table centrepiece and stands out more.

It's a pressed steel carving plate with spikes. It will hold your "meat" and catch the juices/debris as you chop it up. I liked the little spike covers which fit nice and firmly - they protect the spikes when it's racked with other stuff in a cupboard (i'm aware that's slightly anal...i think its my age). It's really simple and does the job. My only quibble is that it's a touch light. I generally prefer my implements to have a nice solid feel; and as that's quite a subjective observation, I would still give it 5 stars. [Edit 19-Feb-2015: So...four years later and this tray is still doing the job. I've lost the spike protectors - but I got over it after a couple of years. It's been through the dishwasher a zillion times, i've tried to cut it rather than the meat almost as much, i've dropped it and dropped things on it...and it still looks good as new, with spikes that are still sharp. Still happy]

Bought this to go with a carving knife and fork set since the cutting board we had been using was not up to much. The item arrived quickly enough and was packaged well. The overall build is okay and it seems solid enough. The spikes are very sharp and welded to the tray solidly. They are protected with plastic snap on covers that are useful and help to protect them when not in use. They certainly stop meat moving around on the tray. It also has a built in collection trough for liquids, so no drips onto the work surface or table. The item was a little smaller than I thought it would be, but I think this is because I was used to the one my parents had and this was bought many years ago when things just seemed to be made bigger! I'm sure that the measurements provided are accurate. The worst point about the tray is the edge finish. I had expected a smooth, possibly rounded edge. Instead, the edge is not finished at all really. This means that it is actually quite sharp and I am concerned that handling the tray for cleaning and even just putting away / taking out of the cupboard is going to result in a cut at some point. Again, this is a big difference to the one my parents have that is well finished on the edges and cannot cause cuts during handling.

Great solid replacement for an old tray. Seems like it will last for years. Decent gutter for juices and the anti stab protectors seem to do a good job... until we may lose them in the future. Can't go wrong with stailess steel

Don't know why I didn't buy one years ago! Makes carving a roast dinner so much easier. Easy to wash and keeps meat perfectly still, catching any juices in the dipped edging and the rubber spokes keep the meat secure on the tray. Will take small or large joints easily. Also, means you have no fear of catching your hands on spikes prongs when washing it. Would definitely recommend.

Very nice quality and the spike protectors to use when storing the tray is a brilliant idea no more sharp jabs!!

We had one of these as a wedding present and it lasted nearly 40 years but some of the pins eventually gave up. We bought this as a replacement and if it lasts as long as the last one it will see me out. Does the job, holds the meat steady and has handy covers for the pins so they don't get damaged or damage anything else.

Only one of the five 'spikes' had a point, the others were flat on the top, so therefore would not be suitable for 'holding' meat. Hoping that mine was a one-off manufacturing error, as currently waiting for a replacement. UPDATE: Replacement received, without the issues (one spike not quite as pointy as the others but not a problem).

I had a similar tray years ago and so I was really pleased to find this. It's perfect to carve in and collects all the meat juices for my gravy. Perfecto

The MasterClass Spiked Carving Tray can hold a very substantive piece of meat or Turkey maybe upto . The tray comes with rubber protectors for the spikes. You'll want to plan on about 1.25 pounds of turkey or meat per person attending. That means that if you are expecting 12 guests, plan for a 15-pound bird. 10 people would be a 15 lbs bird or 6kgs to 7 kgs. I hope this helps people.
