Will this work in a fusion drive imac when upgrading hdd to ssd.

Works fine for me, had to replace the HDD in my mac as it died so threw in an SSD and not had a single issue

Do i even need this cable? I have an iMac 27 inch Retina 1025 model, one engineer says i just use the existing cable and another says i need to buy 1?

This goes in addition to the existing cable and gives you the temperature sensor that is integral to the Apple Drive. If you don’t use it the machine will work but not know what temperature the drive is running at so will kick the fan in full to make sure that the system stays cool enough. I’m an Apple Certified Mac Technician and fit these all the time for upgrades in your model.
