Guitar: The First 100 Chords for Guitar: How to Learn and Play Guitar Chords: The Complete Beginner Guitar Method (Beginner Guitar Books) : Alexander, Mr Joseph: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Highly Recommended. Brilliant and Inspiring. - It's rare to find an instruction book, or video for that matter, which demonstrates a mastery of the art of teaching. I'm just starting to learn to play guitar and must have browsed through hours of instructional material - all without feeling that I had found the golden key to get me started on my journey. This book stands out. It is friendly and encouraging in style, without being too overblown. It's very apparent that the author has put a great deal of thought into the content and presentation and understands how learning takes place. It builds step by step, with plenty of information and advice. It inspires confidence and made me feel that I could proceed at my own pace yet make real progress . A pleasant surprise was to find that the author provides even more on his web site. You can download audio tracks to accompany the lessons, which is very helpful. Not only that, but there are further free lessons to be had too. This adds considerably to the value of the book itself. You won't get any hard sell from this author. No trying to get you to take up 'special offers' or spamming you with emails to try to sell more books or lessons. You will get some super helpful and useful emails with more free content - which is welcome approach and helped cement the impression I formed of someone who really cares about their customers. If you intend to buy any instructional book as a beginner, this one should definitely stand out as being worthy of your consideration. Review: Brilliantly Put Together. Great Book! - Revisiting after almost 35 years and this book is PERFECT- easy to follow, great diagrams, well written. Thoroughly recommend for complete novices and returners! Brilliant to use with the audio.

Brilliant advice
Following a 3 year 'break' from learning guitar (back in 2017), I picked it back up again last month, in an attempt to teach myself it from scratch (this time, on my own, rather than in-person lessons). I had spent the first two weeks watching YouTube tutorials, and although I was picking up the methods alright, the switching between chords was a nightmare. About to give up, I decided to look for a book which may help me (I tend to learn from books better than other methods), and stumbled across this one. When the book arrived, I was over the moon to discover how useful it really is! The practice techniques (back of the book) work so well; bearing in mind I had been struggling with chord changes for a fortnight prior (the same as I did in 2017), in under an hour I had nailed my first chord changes, switching between them much faster at 120bpm+. I admit I am nowehere near perfect, but as the author mentions himself, building muscle memory first is the most important thing. I can't stress how useful this book is, and would recommend it to anyone wanting to build on their chord knowledge/ practice. My only complaint is about the quality of the product. Having bought a brand new copy, I was disappointed to find the front cover mucky/ sticky (I don't know what was on it, but as a sufferer of OCD, this bothered me quite a bit). However I acknowledge that this is not a reflection on the product itself, and I managed to clean it off. All in all, I highly recommend this book, and can say that after 2 weeks of use, I have learnt much more than I had previously in the space of a year.

Clear and concise instruction for learning chords (suitable for beginners and intermediate players)
An excellent book which is perfectly suitable for beginners, showing you where to place your fingers, learn Em, Am and C chords and you're off. It progresses quite quickly into barre chords, some (arguably not well explained) music theory, sevenths, sixths and suspended chords. There's definitely content here for intermediate players with variations on seventh chords, diatonic and chromatic alterations so 9ths, 11ths and 13ths. There's a lot here concisely explained with good practice chord sequences following each section. It is not a chord dictionary but more a contextual thing, progressively introducing you to different qualities of chords (e.g. major, minor, dominant sevenths etc...). This is probably going to be of more use to most players than the more simple chord dictionary format showing merely chord diagrams. I have found it a very helpful text in my long-standing struggles at learning to play guitar and intend to go through it once again. Some of the chapters are borrowed from other books in the extensive library of Fundamental Changes texts. My gripe with this book is that there are two chapters at the back (How to Practise, and Adding Rhythm) which are clearly aimed at beginners and really would make much more sense as opening chapters. That aside, this is an excellent text which has all the hallmarks that this range of guitar textbooks does so well: clear, concise yet comprehensive instruction.

Very easy to follow and understand!
Even though I'm not a beginner, I still found this book very handy. It shows the correct way to play each chord and even has little challenges for you to try out after each chapter, which will help you shift from one chord to another with ease. I like how the book has challenging stuff towards the start (barre chords), this gets you familiarized with those chords early rather than having all the hard stuff thrown at you towards the end of the book, which would feel quite overwhelming after playing just open chords. The book does offer more than just chords which is why I think it's perfect for anyone just starting out on guitar or even for people who have experience with guitar. 5/5 from me!

More theory on chord formation and relationships
The book contains a huge number of chord fingerings but not enough information about how the chords are formed and named.

I like that the book takes you to be able to make music from the beginning. No 100 pages of theory, just practice methods and chords. And in the beginning of your guitar experience, thats basically all you need, i guess. Combine it with an app that teaches you songs by telling you what chords to play and you'll play your favourite songs in no time! At least i hope so.

Very spontaneous yet extremely informative. Helpful for concept building which is something that is overlooked when beginners set out to learn guitar.
