Extremely pleased!!
This is a wonderful device that works perfectly and is very hard to find fault with. I bought it because my elderly cat was having his food stolen by a neighbour's cat and this exceeded all my expectations. It appears to have been improved too, as earlier reviews mention a noisy motor, which can scare cats, but mine is virtually silent. Some reviews also mention how cats can steal food from the side when it is open. But mine has clear plastic screens which help prevent this. Not only does this ensure my cat has the food he wants and the medication he needs, but, because he used to wake me up when there was no food available in the middle of the night, it means I get to sleep better too! It also provides mental stimulation as the cat learns to use it. It did take my cat a little while to get used to it but a cat's natural curiosity helps and it is well worth persevering. It has a training mode which also helps, but my top tip is to put some treats on the front tray. When the cat eats the treats, the main compartment opens and the cat gets a nice surprise that food becomes available! I also recommend setting the switch on the bottom to the slowest closing setting at first. This ensures it stays open for at least 20-30 seconds after the cat moves away so it stays open if the cat picks up some food to eat on the floor, as mine often does, or it just backs away temporarily to gain confidence. But after a while, the natural caution subsides and the cat is happy to use it. I'm summary, I can't recommend it enough. It is fairly compact, feels well constructed and does exactly what it is supposed to do. I only have one cat but I can imagine it is great for multi cat households where one cat needs special food or medicine. Perfect!!

Fabulous!
These feeders are first class. We have three cats and one is a wheelie bin covered in fur, so the moment the other two are out of sight, he hoovers up any remaining food. Suffice to say that short of sitting guard over the cat food bowls day and night (and I kid myself that I have a bit of a life), it meant that Bert's belly was getting bigger and bigger and the other two cats were a bit woebegone, even though they didn't seem to be losing weight. The decider came when we had to medicate one of the cats, while keeping the others away from the medicine. The feeders solved this problem perfectly. We now have three cats who occasionally stick their heads under the arches other their comrades, just in case they get lucky (which clearly never happens), who are getting the correct amount of food and the right cat is getting the medication it needs with no risk to the others. Whomever designed this feeder did a brilliant job. The clear plastic screens at the sides allow your cat to see what's going on, while stopping other cats stealing their food by diving in from the side. The cover folds up at the back of the feeder, providing a protective but transparent screen in that direction. The training mode works well for even the most nervous cat to gradually get used to using the feeder and become familiar with the noise it makes. While the feeders aren't cheap, the reduction in stress for the humans in this household has been worth every penny, and I suspect the cats would say that same if they could. They each know that their siblings can't steal their food, and as a bonus, flies can't get to the wet food either, so it stays fresh and tasty much longer than otherwise.

Micro Chip Cat Feeder 😎👍
This feeder is the best of the best as far as I’m concerned n I can’t believe I haven’t already got one I could of done with one of these years ago, this is gonna stop my dogs pinching the cat food plus if your cat is on medication you just put it n his/her bowl and as long as you have set it up right then only the cat that is on meds can open it n if another cat comes along it just shuts down!! How cool is that!! I’ve just ordered a second one as it’s so great I need 6 n total but have too wait abit before I can order the 4th one!! It maybe abit pricey but believe me it’s worth every penny! 😎👍 Up-date: These feeders are great and simple too set up!! You simply press the button on the back with a cat picture on it then the flap will open!! Just put some food or treats to tempted the cat in n once he’s gone n and picked up the treat up is all done the flap will close and the cat will be programmed too that feeder!! It’s has a intruder function so if another cat comes along too eat while the other cat is eating it shuts down until the intruder has gone!! However this is not in the Instructions so I’ve Up-loaded a photo of how too set it on intruder mode!! It just stops all the hassle of cats pinching other cats food. I need another 3 as I’m getting my dogs one!! This is not realy recommend for dogs but I have the smallest dog n the word the Chihuahua and it also works great with them!! 😎👍 I’ve found over time if you have more then 1 cat even with the Intruder mode on the cats can avoid this by going around the back of the feeder, I’ve looked around too see if there’s a case that would clip on the back too stop this I’ve got 5 feeders and it’s stopped the hassle at there feeding time but now it’s created another problem for me I gotta keep an eye open so I can stop them from going around the back n pulling them out!! It’s just a minor problem I still think & still recommend these feeders!! 😎👍

Does half the job. Needs additional measures in place.
So, this started off so promising. The cat was constantly having her food stolen by the dog, which was becoming tedious as it was costing me a fortune to feed her, she was being penalised for not eating it in one go & then the dog was having upset stomachs as he was eating cat food & also her medication. I tried moving the bowls elsewhere but we don't have a lot of options as we only have a small house & there are only so many ways you can keep a strong dog out of a room but allow a cat access, plus we didn't really want cat food in the lounge. After a long time debating this, I finally took the plunge & invested in one when it came down in price a little (which I still consider expensive for what it is, but there are not exactly many others on the market to pick from, so my hands were forced somewhat). Firstly, its easy enough to set up & work out how it works. The batteries however are C-Cell which means I had to go out & buy some especially for this unit & they are not cheap. The cat took a week to pick this up & learn how to use it. I set it to the fastest closing time from her stepping back from the bowl & it was working as intended. I was so pleased as I thought we were getting somewhere. And to be fair, we were for the first few months. I could put her food down in the morning & she could go help herself whenever she wanted without fear of her bowl being infiltrated by the dog. She was getting her meds & it meant I wasn't using 4 times the amount of food just to feed her every day. However, one morning I got up & found the unit in the middle of the floor, covered in streaks that looked very much like dog slobber. And it was suspiciously clean. Not a trace of cat food anywhere to be seen. I was not impressed. Try as I might I could not catch him at it however as he isn't daft. I would however know when he's been in it since it was spotless & usually found somewhere else (probably due to getting it stuck round his head, then him pulling away & throwing it halfway across the kitchen). Thankfully it's not broken up to now despite being rough housed by a large dog, so I can at least say the build quality looks good. I've come to the conclusion that he's not forcing it open (Since I struggled to open it from closed, due to the way the mechanism works). I noticed that if I put the bowl down full & the cat didn't go near it, then the food remained all day. However, when the cat is up & about, then as soon as I'm somewhere away from the area, the food is disappearing in its entirety, so I suspect whats he's doing is waiting until the cat opens it & then pushes her out of the way & then the lid cannot close because with him being a german shepherd, he can just keep it open with his nose. I tried it with my hand in it & the unit won't force itself closed if there is an obstruction. Safe for cats to not get injured, not ideal for intruders that have worked this out. Back to the drawing board. I rang Surefeed customer services to ask if they had a cover for the front rather than just the back, as I don't think for one minute he is going in through the back, I believe he is just sticking his head in through the front to keep the flap forced open (which then explains why the cover is then licked clean from the inside, as he's literally forcing it upwards with his face. They broke the news to me that they only do a cover for the back, so basically, I was on my own here. Then I had a brainwave as I bought some fabric boxes the other day from Amazon and had one I had yet to use - so, now I have found a solution to the issue (For now at least). And what do you know, since I placed the feeder inside the box, the food has not yet magically disappeared. I can however say I am happy that it keeps the food fresh all day, keeps flies out & the place doesn't smell of cat food. The cat seems to prefer this as she would have left food before if it had been left out for a few hours & started to dry out, but now she eats all of it (Assuming the dog doesn't get to it first). It lasts all day (again, dog allowing) so I can put her food out in the morning & she can pick all day & its as fresh as when I put it out. So in conclusion, if you have other cats or a small/dumb dog then this works fine. However, as soon as you have a large animal that can sit & watch how this works and work out how to outsmart it (IE allowed animal is the one to trigger it and then there is a very brief window which allows them to get in before the lid closes) then it won't work without some additional measures in place. So I'm giving this 4 stars as you would have thought that the designers of the unit would have come up with something to prevent this by now, even if it's just an additional hood to prevent intruders from the front. And £80 is a lot of money to spend to find out you now need to place it inside a box.

Outstanding feeder, now an essential.
We purchased two of these cat feeders to solve a specific problem, which it solved and unexpectedly, it also solved two other problems. We took on a rescue cat, with her kitten from the Cats Protection League in 2012. We knew we might have a few issues with a neglected & ill-treated cat, but we were not expecting the cat to eat all of her food and then eating all her kitten’s food. We had to intervene and very quickly got to the stage where the kitten would be fed in the kitchen, then when she had enough to eat, the mother would be fed. The mother will then eat her own food and what was left of the kitten’s food. As the kitten matured, we would warn off the mother from her daughter's food (a hard stare worked) and we managed to arrive at a point where the kitten got enough food, but the mother was getting too fat. The vet did not view this as a problem, but health problems would be coming if we did not act soon. The mother was too fat to clean her own back and we had to brush her, so action was required before health conditions from over-eating arrived. We moved house, where we had fields at the back of our house and this led to many flies landing on the cat food, which was clearly not good. The wet food would also dry out and would become inedible. We got these cat feeders from Amazon and used the two sided bowls, one for dry food, the other side for wet. We spent about 3 weeks training the cats with the training modes within the cat feeder, which made progress easy, but steady. This was all worth it, the food is covered and the flies cannot get to it, but more importantly, the mother cat only gets her share, she is losing weight and her daughter no longer has to eat all her food at once, or face the reality of losing most of it. The cats are now relaxed as the feeder lids open and they eat their food happily. The wet food is fresher and you can see that it retains moisture throughout the day, as condensation forms on the inside of the lid, which the food fresher most of the day. This has been a very effective device to keep our cats healthy & happy. It is battery operated, so it can be sited anywhere in the home. Setting up was easy, the instructions were easy to follow and helped a great deal. We knew that taking on an ill-treated cat would come with issues (photographs after her rescue show a very skinny & scared cat), her over-eating is clearly the result of cruelty and not a reflection of her true self. Things have progressed well, she can now clean her own back. Incidentally, it took two years with us before she would purr, so the neglect and ill-treatment cast a long shadow for her and this feeder is putting to rest the last vestiges of that long shadow.

Perfect if you have two cats with opposite appetite levels, still working perfectly after 18 months!
We have one cat that would never stop eating if allowed, as far as we can tell (Theo), and another without much of an appetite, who eats little and often throughout the day (Morgan). We have no option but to leave food out at all times for Morgan, otherwise he wouldn't eat enough. At first I was very worried that this would result in Theo becoming the size of a small elephant. This feeder is brilliant. It responds to Morgan's microchip, and never fails to open when he puts his head near. He learned how to use it immediately without being remotely scared of it, and he is a little skittish sometimes so that was a relief. It does also have the training mode which is presumably helpful for cats that are initially scared of it. The most important thing is that we've had it for 18 months, and it still works perfectly after being opened and closed about 10-15 times a day. We do only fill it with dry food so doesn't need too much cleaning. That would probably be a little annoying if using wet food, but not too big a deal. I did buy it with the cover for the back. It's a bit odd that you can even buy it without the cover, as it seems a bit useless without it. Theo would be right in the back as soon as Morgan opens it. To be honest I should probably give this 4 stars because it doesn't come with the cover, but it's so good overall that I've still dtuck with 5. It says not to use rechargeable batteries, but I have and it's absolutely fine. Specifically I've used these as they seem very high quality - EBL Ni-MH C Size Rechargeable Batteries 5000mA. I have to recharge them every 3 months or so, so that's also pretty good!

Annoyingly good (because they’re expensive!)
These do exactly what I need them to do. I was hoping they wouldn’t work because they’re painfully expensive and I wanted a reason to return them, but actually they’ve solved my problem. I have a 17yo cat who needs specialist food, but she insists on eating my young cat’s food and vice versa. I decided to splash out and buy two of these feeders to see if this solved the problem. And it does. The old cat learnt how to make it work very quickly. The young one has approximately 1.5 brain cells so it’s taken her a bit longer (she’s super cute to make up for it… The downsides are that they’re very bulky. The microchip reader is in the bar over the top, which makes sense, but this adds to the bulky shape. They also take C batteries which seems unnecessary. They’re not a normal battery you’d have lying around the house so that was inconvenient. A set of sample batteries could have been included for the price of this device. I haven’t had them long enough to have to clean them yet, so I can’t comment on that. (Photo shows the old cat STILL eyeing up the other cat’s food 🙄)

Don't buy if you don't want to use collars
I purchased this on black Friday event and it took over a month to arrive. When it arrived the only batteries that I had available were from my shower radio and the unit immediately started flashing red to indicate the battery level was too low so we had to purchase some new batteries from Amazon. In the meantime we decided to play around with the unit learn the controls and all of the manual is online. Despite having used the online tool to check the microchip and whether it would work with this device, it doesn't. When I contacted customer service explaining the behavior that the unit displayed where it learned the cats microchip before the batteries were replaced and then wouldn't after the batteries replaced they stated it is because their there microchip reader is known to not comply with the new microchips! None of this information has been declared on the website none of this information has been declared on their Amazon advert and I was told to persevere use a piece of cardboard they sent me to measure sensitivity, changed the settings and then to "wait until your kitten has grown up!" Understandably I'm a disgruntled customer who spent 80 pounds on a feeder that doesn't work with no promise of a discount, partial refund, replacement or anything else despite having done absolutely everything that customer service have told me to do! Every time I've contacted them they've reiterated the same template response which is to go and check with your vet that the microchip is working, we did check with the vet and the microchips reading fine. So the fact that the microchip information that I entered on the website is misleading and it doesn't work is frustrating. I could have saved myself an awful lot of money by using one that has a dongle attached to a collar it's now cost me extra money purchasing collars for a kitten that is due to grow out of them and a lot of my time and patience trying to train the kitten and use their pieces of cardboard with sensors and things and reprogramming everything. I'm not satisfied with my purchase. I'm not getting a refund and I've not been allowed to send the item back. So proceed with caution if you've got a brand new microchip and be prepared to have to pay for replacement collar tags if your kitten or your cat loses their collar when they're out and about! The ease of cleaning I don't rate it very good for ease of cleaning there's lots of nooks and crannies for cloths and things to get snagged on it's very difficult to get into some of the crevices it's something that I have to wipe down every single time that I replace her food and there's no option prior to purchase thing to swap the bowl and maps for a different color these are available on their website and extortionate price of nearly £20. The item makes a small noise when it opens and closes it's not very loud I would say about 20 decibels of noise. Size of the unit is slightly larger than food bowls that you would use normally with the handle being similar in height to the width. So ensure you have about 15cm square of space to place with front access. There's also an additional option to purchase a back cover in order to protect the food and the lid once it's open from other multiple pets trying to access the food bowl I'm not really sure why this didn't come as a free optional item but again as you imagine this is also a very expensive add-on that you would need to purchase separately.

Meglio in acciaio.”

Easy to use and item as described
As long as you follow the manual, the product is easy to use. I have two cats, one is a free feeder and the other has timed feeds from a dispenser as she can eat an entire day's worth of food in one seating. This microchip feeder is for my free-feeding cat and she is not afraid of the flap at all. She learned pretty quickly within a day that the food in the feeder is hers only. The feeder is pretty easy to clean too. I did not get the rear cover as my timed feeding cat has no interest in the free feeder's food.
