A little gem! A complete revelation.
What a great item. I was introduced to these little gems by some friends who had invited us over to their holiday cottage for the day and they popped one of these on a garden bench - on an extension lead, of course - and proceeded to 'barbecue' our evening meal. I was asked to assist for a while and took over the grill while they dealt with other tasks for the meal and I was super impressed with how well this grill cooked the food. Any excess fat ran away into a channel and thence, via a hole, to the little tray provided underneath the cooking surface. Unlike regular barbecue equipment it took literally seconds to heat up, and so cooking could get underway immediately without all the usual standing around for an hour while the charcoal 'develops'. The cooking was quick and easy; the food flavourful with just a nice hint of browning rather than the almost inevitable charcoaling of the sausages and other equally unfortunate items. Cleaning was a simple wipe over with a kitchen paper towel and an emptying and washing of the tray beneath. Job done! A complete revelation if you need something to quickly grill your food. The only thing that I would slightly fault it on is the heat control. It was a bit tricky to find a 'middle level' of heat and so required a bit of tweaking now and again to adjust cooking rates, but this is a very minor gripe and should not deter anyone from using this little gem. Needless to say, I went out the next week and bought one. It was a no-brainer. Especially at the price. Why wouldn't you?

Brilliant.
Being the type of person who likes to try and do things without paying a premium for the right equipment, I bought this because it was cheap and I thought it might make achieving the necessary temperatures for the hot air reflowing of solder on broken electronics somewhat easier. So, the item arrived today and it just so happened that I'd already planned on making home-made burgers (minced beef, salt and pepper, and a bit of garlic powder) for tea. Normally I do my burgers under the grill but, having also read the other reviews on here about how good this is at actually cooking, I thought I'd give it a whirl. Well, really all I can say is that this is brilliant. The item heats up quickly and at full chat the plate exceeds 220c (which is the most my infra-red thermometer goes up to). It cooked my burgers quicker than my electric grill and they tasted better. I also threw some thick sliced back bacon on there and it was cooked in a few minutes. All the fat runs away into the little tray underneath. Having now eaten the burgers, I've just done the washing up and this thing couldn't be easier to clean. The non-stick surface of the plate is, without doubt, the most non-stickiest thing I've ever come across and cleaning was a doddle with a bit of kitchen roll and then the sponge side of a pan scourer. It's now hanging on the wall waiting for its next use, which will either be a nice steak on Friday night or a faulty xbox motherboard on Saturday. I'll keep you posted about that but in the meantime, if you want something nice to eat, you shouldn't hesitate to buy this.

Works great so far
I thought I would add my two cents considering the mixed reviews this has received. I purchased it after reading the reviews deciding that for £20 it was worth the risk. The packaging was very good and came without any damage to packaging or contents. It also came quite quickly which is one of the things I judge purchases by. I started out trying things like hamburgers, bacon, homestyle fried potatoes and onions and american style pancakes. The thermostat worked quite well, didn't turn off for long periods of time as some reviewers experienced and it was easy to cook with. Judging that it had survived the initial trial, I then did a brunch for 50 church goers with pancakes, hash browns and bacon being cooked on the griddle. Again, it worked flawlessly and really saved us from being overly stressed. To answer some of the other negative comments. It does feel light weight compared to caste iron ones I have had in the past but this is aluminum and the actual amount of metal seems to be the same from what I remember of the old ones. There was no wobble; the legs were solid and not bent. I did follow the directions specifically about starting with the thermostat turned down and then turning it up after I plugged that in but whether that made a difference, I don't know. The one slightly understandable flaw is that the end furthest away from the thermostat was not quite as hot as the rest of the surface (may 5cm in from the edge). This is easy to see when cooking a lot of small pancakes but it was certainly understandable. All I can say is that I have no complaints and feeding breakfast to 50 people quickly was more than worth the £20 invested. Now any future use is just added return on investment.

I Love it!!
Initially I in my excitement I broke the control knob on the grill on the first use when I was cleaning (it it slipped off the counter) contacted Andrew James and they kindly sent out a replacement for £10.80 which I was happy to pay. Had the grill(46cm X 26cm one) for about 3 months with no problems, used it to grill many types of foods, from burgers to omelets, with no issues, on first use I used oil but quickly realised no oil is needed, also only used 2 of the wooden spatulas. Used it about 50+ times and it still looks as new. . There is a knack to cooking on this beast, its simple.. you DONT turn it upto 5 as it will warp the plate because of the heat dispersion across the plate is slower the the rate of heat from the element, it could also possibly damage it, if it bends the welded element to much. I think of it as 5 cooking stages, instead of 5 levels of heat. Stage 1 turn it on and allow the heat to cover the plate(this will stop the possible plate warping), it get hot instantly and will allow you to start cooking on it strait away, then once it heats up it will turn off this is when you would turn your food, then you put it on 2 todo the other side. then when it turns off again, put it to 3 and you should be able to finish up your cooking without ever going to level 4. . Clean as you go along, then wipe with tissue, simple clean and effective cooking. Highly recommended and im getting the bigger one in the summer.

Fun but practical kitchen gadget
Love trying new kitchen gadgets and after much deliberation between this and a griddle plate for the double oven decided in this due to: portability, fun of everyone cooking their own food, not needing 2 gas rings on to warm it (like the griddle), both similar price and the other great reviews. Purchased directly from Andrew James, great price and delivery. Had it 3 days and tried satay chicken, giant pancakes! (Tip use two 'flippers') and fried eggs (used egg rings) Would highly recommend. Just needs gentle wipe down when finished. Best if it's slightly warm as any leftover bits just glide off and the drip tray can go in dish washer. Worked out that the price of this plus the chicken and bits for the first meal cost same asa meal for 2 out but we've got this for many more meals to come so definately good value! As with other reviews: - USE ONLY none metal utensils such as wood or silicone or u will scratch it. - Try the 1 cal oil spray for ease of coating it lightly with oil before used. The settings seem to be very hot. Although 5 was recommended in the leaflet that came with it for satay. I found 5 was ok for about a minute but then turned it to 3 for a further 2 mins to stop them drying/burning on outside - of course amount of time depends on thickness of meat etc. The min setting is also useful for keeping things warm.

Returned, not as expected
For the price, if looking for something cheap, simple and used for light grilling this will probably meet your criteria. I returned this as it really was not substantial enough for our requirements. The non-stick coating was cheap and the heat did not spread out evenly across the plate. You get what you pay for. I think there are better products out there - hence why we returned ours.

Perfection Barbecue ..
Wow ... Amazing ,, I LOVE THIS. I received this yesterday well packaged. Was concerned that maybe we wouldn't fit much on it so was pleasantly surprised by the size. Set it all up and got out the 4 oz burgers ... I will say the spatulars are very small so did go and buy a silicon spatula .. I was concerned as to if the food would cook thoughly and not be raw inside ( as with some babbecue`s ) and just burn on the outside. NOPE ... the smell of barbecue food drifted through the house it cooked perfect put the cheese on top and it melts to perfection cooked the eggs and they cooked better than using a frying pan ( I used egg rings ) .. My husband has done bacon sarnies this morning and we have ordered the larger one as well ( big family when everyone comes round ) Cleaning is a doddle and packs away without taking all the cupboard . And no mess on kitchen side with fat ect. does have a shot lead but that wasn't a problem for us. for use outside just use a extention cable as per instruction book.can see this getting stacks of use . As with anything that needs heat this does get very hot so don't use place by edge of side make sure it is well pushed back . My burgers from last night 9/6/16 If you want a barbecue ... don't have space in the garden for one or only have a balcony or small kitchen this is perfect
