Perfect for your travels
I used this for my 1 year travelling trip around the world and it was perfect. It’s sturdy and comfortable, easy to carry on short and long distances without weighing you down too much or giving you back ache. It’s compact and held a lot of things. Of course it is only 40L so I did cut down on some unnecessary items and made sure I had enough stuff to last at least 2 weeks, if you’re not very good at travelling light or just don’t want to get rid of all your necessities then I would recommend probably going for a larger bag. The lightest weight it was at when I was away was 7kg and the heaviest around 12.5kg. It has multiple different compartments and even a hidden space for a laptop in the back. It’s also the perfect size for a carry-on (check the airlines carry-on dimensions) on most airlines, I personally had no problem getting it on Ryanair and other similar airlines. The shoulder straps also can be folded and zipped away if you need to check the bag in. It also opens up like a suitcase. My only problem is that it’s not waterproof nor resistant but I knew that before hand and bought a waterproof cover for it. Overall it was perfect for what I needed and I’d buy it again.

Bad first impression but excellent bag once given a chance
I rarely do these reviews as I never think about it when a product is great. Only when I want to warn people away from a trap product. But here we go. I opened this and was immediately put off. I don't know why, but it was an immediate "absolutely no". BUT I decided to give it a try and do a trial pack of our stuff. For context we have been traveling for 6 years and in backpacks only for parts of that. I was floored at how much I could fit easily into this backpack. I LOVED the zipper access and the pockets but that the main compartment was huge. It is extremely comfortable to carry and the straps feel good. I do have a little discomfort around my collarbones but that us due to my anatomy and nothing with the bag. It adjusts down to fit my 5ft tall daughter and myself at 5ft 10in. So it is really adjustable. I previously used a hiking backpack that says it is also 40L but this one holds way more. Like carry on plus personal item more. I seriously have 3 seasons of clothing packed into 4 packing cubes, personal care items, a laptop plus extra screen, a 1gallon ziplock bag of random food/snack items, my daughter's ipad, 2 rain jackets, a pair of sandals, and more that all fits in this backpack. I don't even carry a personal item anymore other than my purse, unless my daughter needs more space. Anyway, if you are on the fence about this backpack, try it. And if yout first instinct is HECK NO, give it a chance. Pack ot and wear it around your house for a bit. Side note, I did say it fits my daughter's frame, but it is definitely too big for a 10yo. A 5ft adult could definitely do it if they were used to the weight, but it's too big for a child even though it 'fits'. Or at least it's too big for my child. Not sure that really makes sense.

Strong, sturdy and rugged
Great rucksack, really well made. Materials really strong, and thick felt like my possessions were secure and safe. I did think the waist belt was a little stiff and not so comfortable, it is lightly padded but could do with thicker padding. I’m only small too and it felt quite large lengthways on my back. Good colours, amazing space. Loved how it opened up as a suitcase shape which made it easier to get items out rather than digging to the bottom of a traditional rucksack. Was a good price on sale, and Osprey hold their retail value if you look after them

Amazing quality, sturdy backpack/carry on
Bought for a trip to travel light within the country. I've heard good things about Osprey, but was blown away by the quality. This bag is amazing! I've used it as a carry on for long hauls, with no issues. Love that the straps can be packed away, it's a massive size. There's a padded section for laptops and love the carry handle on the side. Because it also functions as a backpack, I feel like it could have benefited from a water bottle holder. The open pockets at the front are not secure enough. Have had it for 1.5 years and I still use it. Looks like brand new.

The bag is great but the shoulder straps require a specific body shape that I do not have.
I like the bag generally, good space and quality. However, I found the shoulder straps really did not suit my shape and they both pinched behind the neck and dug into my shoulder - made more immediately noticeable as the straps are very firm. I did like the feature of the straps being able to be zipped away when being checked at an airport and though there is nowhere specifically to put the excess fabric I found it easy to lay flat under the straps when carrying the bag normally (it stays in place without any need to secure it). This would be a great bag for someone else.

Genuinely Couldn't Live Without This Bag
This backpack system is an absolute blessing, I have taken it on many adventures so far and can see it holding up against the test of time (and tsa). I do wish it'd come with its own rain cover, but I managed to find a generic one that fit quite well and saved me and my belongings in a swiss summer rain storm. So comfortable, highly adjustable, and the daypack is maybe the most ergonomic backpack i've ever used. When I travel, I clip the daypack to the front to distribute the weight evenly and it keeps me from being one of those backpackers who looks like a beetle about to tip over at any minute, and while clipped like that the small top zippered pocket faces you and makes a very convenient and secure place for passport/ phone/ wallet that wont get pickpocketed from under your nose. Truly cant say enough good things about this bag.

No pockets!!!!
NO POCKETS!!!! Travelled for 5 days with this backpack and struggled with there being zero pockets to put things in for easy access. There are 2 flat ‘pockets’ on the front that are so tight, nothing will go in them and I got bruises on my hands trying to get in there. No side pockets for water bottle. The bag is already heavy without anything in it- not ideal for trying to pack light! Someone else on my trip bought the backpack and hated it too! Wish I’d done more research- my own fault really! Definitely would not recommend.

The perfect carry-on backpack
This is my wife's pack and I'll repeat what I said for the men's version: Back home after 26 days of living out of this pack and carrying it on trip across Europe. It held up beautifully. Fit into every carry-on and storage locker be it plane, train, or boat. Comfortable, functional, and plenty roomy. No complaints.
