The kings of metal teaming up with a symphony orchestra should not work on paper but in reality the orchestra and arrangements breathe new life into the material performed at this show. James, Kirk, Lars and Jason are all on top form and the orchestra conducted by Michael Kamen are magnificent. The set list is good but I would have liked to have heard a couple of songs from AJFA played but I won't complain when the selected songs are played so well. Highly reccomended!

what an amazing dvd Metallica at their best with a wonderful orchestra . Playing new and old favourites this is a must for fans. I cannot praise this enough. On the opening piece ectasiy of Gold by the late great Ennio Morriconne it was perfection all the way, so much so I have ordered Ennio Morriconne s concert dvd . Enjoy

Well for a second hand dvd quality is good,

what can i say that has'nt been written about metallica? this dvd in my mind is epic. from the intro of ecstasy of gold, to the incredibly deep master of puppets, and the surprisingly touching rendition of outlaw torn, this dvd is worth getting if you're an open minded metal fan, or open minded classical fan. i think its incredible how metallica's work translates so easily and beautifully to classical, and the band should be given credit for this. the conducter, michael kamen, unfortunately passed away in 2004 i beleive, which adds even more to the occasion. inspiring and jaw -droppingly incredible, i am simply in even more awe than i was before of the awesome metallica

If you are into Metallica this is one for you. I didn't rate the new film when I went to see it.

This is a must have for all Metallica fans, Michael Kamen was a genius.

Well what can i say apart from "this is music at it's finest." The documentary provides an insite into what went into making this concert. After hearing that Metallica was going to play with an orchestra i thought it was going to be carrer suiced. I was completly wrong. People may think that Metallica are going to soften up some of their songs to allow the orchestra to get in, but the opposite happened. The orchestra played harder to keep up with James, Lars, Kirk and Jason. In all this is BY FAR the best music DVD out there. This will be the best value for money you will ever see.

Bueno, bonito y barato. Este DVD es imprescindible para fans del rock o, simplemente, para quien quiera delatarse con un buen concierto a cargo de Metallica y la orquesta sinfónica de San Francisco.

Als langjähriger Metallicafan und auch dem Orchester nicht abgeneigter Mensch, bestellte ich mir diese DVD. Die dazugehörende CD besaß ich schon längst und wollte nun die phantastische Musik und die Stimmung, die während dieses durchaus ungewöhnlichen Aufeinandertreffens vorherrschte, auch sehen. Meine Erwartungen wurden mehr als erfüllt! Zunächst muss ich sagen, dass die Bild- und Tonqualität wirklich grandios ist, die Show ein Meisterwerk, das seinesgleichen sucht, die Dokumentation ein interessanter Einblick in das Geschehen, der von den amüsanten Kommentaren der Bandmitglieder begleitet wird. Des Weiteren gibt es bei 4 Liedern 5 unterschiedliche Kamerawinkeleinstellungen, sodass man entscheiden kann, ob man sich das Gesamtensemble ansehen möchte oder nur ein bestimmtes Bandmitglied. Ein großer Vorteil besteht darin, dass man nicht bloß die CD-Version der Lieder hören kann, sondern auch nur das Orchester oder nur die Band - ganz nach Laune. Und für alle, die die Lyrics noch nicht auswendig können: Man kann überall die Untertitel anstellen und jene mitlaufen lassen. Schlussfolgernd lässt sich nur sagen, dass diese DVD sehr viel zu bieten hat und ein Muss für jeden Metallicafan ist. Ich kann sie nur weiterempfehlen!

Ordinato martedì sera e arrivato mercoledì in mattinata, un motivo in più per amare Prime. Piccola pecca, un angolo della custodia ha preso una botta, rompendo inevitabilmente una parte interna che tiene fermo l'alloggiamento del dvd1. Poco male, posso cambiare la custodia senza problemi. Inoltre, per meno di 13 euro è un buonissimo acquisto. Quello che c'è dentro è senz'altro un must per i veri fan.

Well i just made the purchase of this concert dvd, a full 13 years after its release! I remember seeing a vhs version that my friend had back in the day. My version says a 2003 release, this dvd looks and sounds amazing, we have a choice of 2.0 stereo mix & 5.1 surround. I'm very impressed with the audio features that let u listen to band only or symphony only or both of course. Although i enjoy the idea of Metallica & the San Francisco Symphony,i do feel in some songs that the two music sources are in a battle to be heard rather than blending together. So i love the option of hearing the band only, with just a hint of the symphony bleeding thru to the mix from vocal and drum mics giving the music just a little colour. The band rocks this performance with a cross-section set list of old & new songs. I'm really glad i decided to make this dvd purchase.
