This is a review of the HILLMASTER 8 Inch T-Strap Hinges. These hinges are strong and well built. Some reviews I read said they were 'flimsy.' They may have been talking about smaller hinges, not sure, but these hinges are heavy duty and have no wobble or play in them when attached. They work perfectly on a gate I built.

I bought the 10" hinges, and they appear to be very solid. Thick material around the 3 mm range. The rust resistant claim will take a few months to confirm. I didn't use the screws provided because they have #10 heads and were barely large enough to stay in the holes. I had to purchase #14 X 1 1/2 Stainless Steel black wood screws which is a much better fit for a hinge of this size.

The HILLMASTER 6-inch T-Strap Hinges are exactly what I needed for my shed doors. Installation was straightforward, and the pre-drilled holes lined up perfectly. Once mounted, the hinges swing smoothly and hold firm without sagging, even under the weight of solid wood doors. Delivery was fast, but the screws are a little small/weak. I’d like hex screws, but I the screws are good enough. It’s great to have the hinge up again.

Well made with drill holes on both the door and frame/post sides offset to help prevent splitting the wood. If checking prices on other hinges, look to make certain the drill holes are offset.

Solid, perfect fit

I replaced the doors to my shop and I used these hinges. They are a good heavy metal. The provided screws were of ample length but I did put a 2 inch star-head screw in each one for added security. I would recommend these.

The brackets are built heavy and functional, but they sent the shortest screws with them (I believe it was advertised with screws when I purchased). The screws are too short for large doors as this heavy hinge was advertised. I would have just bought better screws of I new that they didn't fit the hinge. When you are trying to fix a barn door it's better to get it done in a single day. Also it's really hard to work around horses trying to get into the stall for hay. This portion I would not recommend.

It is cheap and good

I find these hinges to be quite durable. Far better than what the fencers had originally put in. My only problem is that the screws provided were using Philip's (cross), instead of Robertson's (square) or Torx (star). This makes then very difficult to use and easily stripped using an impact driver even with a pilot hole. I ended up using long GRK fasteners on the posts instead.

These hinges I ordered were supposed to be 4 inches by 6 inches as per picture, unless the pictures weren't what they were selling, which would be false advertising. These are some light weight junk, likely wouldn't hold out on a lightweight gate for more than a year. Cheap junk.
