The Winds of Wisdom: Visions from the Thirty Enochian Aethyrs

Good even-tempered approach to the 30 aethyrs
It's a good record of a modern magician following in Crowley's footsteps. I can't exactly disagree with the other reviewer, in that it is "lightweight" compared to Crowley. On the other hand, Shoemaker is a clinical psychologist, and he documents his methodology perhaps more rigorously than Crowley. Also, he didn't have a powerful demon possess him, so I think there's value in seeing a more even-tempered approach.5 stars in that it's an honest and clear document of a magician exploring the 30 aethyrs. I could knock off a star because I wanted something different or more, but if the record were different it wouldn't be the record.

It's alright
Not sure how I feel about this book. I appreciate that the process was laborious and took a long time for him. However, I cannot subscribe that all the aethers are ultimately open to all who seek. Perhaps seeing instead the repeat of certain personal stages and interpreting them for advancements. 4 stars for Living Thelema podcast and book.

Lightweight
What can I say. The book is lightweight. I don't mean merely the fact that it's only about 100 pages. I mean the fact that, compared to Crowley's masterwork, "The Vision and the Voice", this book not only pales in comparison but would probably make a good introductory chapter for Crowley's book. His descriptions of the Aethys are interesting but very short on detail. If you've read Crowley's work, don't expect to see any similar detail in here. I suppose it's an unfair comparison to compare any magician to Crowley. But I expected more for my 15 bucks.I will say that I saw the page count before ordering but I also know Mr Shoemaker had written the excellent "Living Thelema" so I expected far more.I'm also skeptical of adding Golden Dawn rituals and Thelemic rituals to a system that predates both and has nothing whatsoever to do with Modern Magic. But that's my hangup I suppose. If you're interested in reading someone else's (short) descriptions of the Aethyrs by all means order it. It's an ok read if you've got an hour to spare. Not much more.
