Review: MUST READ FOR ANYONE OVER 60 - Renal Diet Cookbook for the Newly Diagnosed: The Complete Guide To Managing Kidney Disease... is a mouthful for a title but also it is a refreshing, easy read, easy to understand book! From explaining what chronic kidney disease is in lay terms that a ten year old could understand, to listing possible best foods to eat, giving reproducible menu charts, easy recipes that anyone can do, etc.. The author explains how to prevent, slow down, or manage kidney disease. This reader feels Renal Diet Cookbook is a must read for any one over 60. Review: Essential for someone new to kidney disease - It gave it 5 stars for the information you receive in this book. Wonderful, useful, easily understood information for someone newly diagnosed with kidney disease. The author states 100 delicious recipes. At this point Iโve only tried 2. The cooked bulgar and strawberries is very good. I had never eaten cooked bulgar but I really like it. But, on the other hand, the Chicken Pho was not good. The first night I could barely get a fourth of my bowl down me. Tried again the next day and ate the rest of that bowl. But sorry to say. Within a few days the rest saw the trash. As I stated, these are the only two Iโve tried so far. Iโll keep trying out new ones. I love that they are quick and easy. The knowledge you get from the book is excellent.

Good for a baseline
Really helpful for someone trying to figure out the ropes on being diagnosed with kidney disease. Helped me start an idea on what kinds of things to go for when hungry and good recipes a to spice up the boring stuff I was originally eating. Have to say some of the ingredients werenโt easily obtainable.. but others were alright. Wish that it had pictures in it to show me an idea of what stuff is supposed to look like. Some information seemed a little confusing in the way it was presented but other than that I was very happy with the book.

Really helps with menu ideas to keep meals enjoyable
Some of the sauces for tofu and fish are really good! I can't use salty soy sauce or cajun stlye seasoning anymore. The herb gremolata on baked salmon and the spicy tofu and broccoli sauce with ginger, garlic, rice wine vinegar are so good! It's a relief to have recipes that are already low in potassium, phosphorus and salt. I'm also trying to go mostly vegetarian except for fish and rarely chicken. I appreciate the introduction and explanations in the beginning of the book.

Good but could be better
I thought this cookbook had sone good recipes. They include all the nutritional facts and have meal plan ideas. They also must have improved the index as a previous reviewer mentioned they only listed carrots twice in the back but as I showed in my photo thatโs better now. Improvements would be add more photos. I can never understand why recipe books donโt have the majority of their recipes showing the photo of it made. Most people want to see it before making it. Also, there are a lot of carbs in these meals. Iโm trying to do a lower carb to manage insulin spikes and realize it canโt be no carb but maybe a section just on lower carb alternatives would be good. Debating whether to return it or keep it.

Delicious recipes for an elderly friend with CKD
I made the pesto pasta and the baked herbed - bone-in, skin-on - chicken thigh recipe for a friend. I put it in individual serving size containers and told her the pages the recipes were on so she could track it according to her Kidney dieticianโs dietary plan. She loved both recipes and was still able to use a bit of seasoning to keep it in her dietary plan. Highly recommend this book!

Great resource for those with CKD
This book is an excellent resource for newly diagnosed CKD patients. I was already following a paleo diet and avoiding processed foods, but I wasnโt sure if there were certain veggies or proteins I should be limiting based on my CKD. This book includes lists of foods that are high in potassium, phosphorus and sodium which CKD patients need to be mindful of in meal planning. The author includes weekly meal plans with corresponding shopping lists, as well as recipes. There is also a section on reading food labels. A must read for those wanting to adopt a healthier lifestyle and better manage their CKD through diet.

RENAL BIBLE
WOW - this book is comprehensive. A great introduction on what a renal diet is and why you need it, including good explanations of your creatinine and GFR levels. 200 pages of info including some great recipes, and some the average guy will probably not eat. If you are newly diagnosed with CKD ( chronic kidney disease ) this is a great starting point. Any renal cookbook with lemon bars and a cookie recipe in it is good - unfortunately the portion size is only one cookie!

Excellent book for the newly diagnosed
Well organized topics and meals. Everything you need to know and should have on hand is listed. Good to have shopping list for the week menus. It helps to learn what to look for. I am sure I'll be able to adjust the recipe according to my need and preferences, once I become familiar with calculating the amounts of critical nutrient levels and food I am allowed.
