A good book to get a start
A cookbook doesn't necessarily mean advanced cooking for professional chefs. The average person sometimes needs to bake a cake, or roast a pig so they need cookbooks too. pfSense 2 Cookbook is for the uninitiated and not the salty veteran or old hand so if you're an advanced or even intermediate pfSense admin then this is not for you. Most of what is in this book can be found in pieces across the internet or figured out yourself, but then again you can say the same about any food cookbook as well. What I like is that this is formatted in a list of simple 'how tos' in one consolidated source. You're probably not going to master pfSense with this book, but it does get you started on getting standard tasks done from start to finish and it references related configurations in each section. From XML exports to NAT to CARP this book will get you started on pfSense to help you become that master chef who needs advanced cookbooks. This will fill in the gaps for me until someday when pfSense the Definitive Guide finally gets updated and released for version 2.

This is not a cookbook.
This book was a complete waste for me. The use of the word "cookbook" should be removed from the title. The amount of cooking in this book can be compared to boiling water. I am disappointed with the lack of depth in this book.If you don't have a computer and want to learn about pfSense 2, this may be the book for you. Each item covered contains a screen shot of the web configuration. Very rudimentary examples are given that just touch on what pfSense can do.

Table of contents is wrong.
Just got the book and it looks good. First problem I notice though: the page numbers in the table of contents are wrong. It reads Chapter 4 starts on 67; it actually starts on 71.It reads Chapter 5 starts on 93; it actually starts on 97.Weird.

Good reference for 2.0
This book was extremely helpful...I'm familiar with firewalls in general and have set them up in very basic ways. This was my first installation of pfSense and I was having all kinds of trouble getting everything set up the way my client needed. This book helped me through the "rough" spots. The kindle version was much cheaper than the print version and the other pfSense book that the web site "advertises".

Quick and to the point
Still going through the book but it got me up and running quickly. Got the software installed, DHCP, Reservations, port forwarding, DDNS, and minor tweaks in about 1/2 hour. Not bad for 1st time working with pfsense IMHO.Will update post as I go deeper into the book but so far can't complain.

Must have for newbies of pfSense, complete with receipes for most .
Was helpful to newbie to get firewall up and running with examples from every menu item. I could find other books that covered version 2.0

Could do more
For the price, the how-Tos are rather basic. For example no details on setting up VLANs for connecting to Layer 2 or 3 switch. Firewall rles and NAT could be a bit more detailed. however, some parts of basic set up asre done in good detail.

Book is excelent
Super Buch. Genau was ich gesucht habe. Beschreibt in Fallstudien wie die Firewall zu komfigurieren ist. Kann auch als Nachschlagewerk genutzt werden.
