Can I plug this feeder keeping the battery in case of power loss?

Yes I keep mine plugged in even though I have good batteries in it as well. I consider the batteries to be back up if power fails.

Shopping for a new feeder, our current one sticks. Does this one stick as it gets older or does it remain consistent over time?

It doesn’t stick, but the dispenser angle isn’t steep, so food often doesn’t fully pour into the bowl, leading to a backup. I think some of their other models have steeper and more reliable dispensers.
