I've had many back scratchers in my life. This one by far is the best. Every single thing you want in this sort of tool has been included in the design. The bristles are not flexible nor are they soft. The ends are rounded just enough to provide deep scratching without breaking the skin in my opinion. The large area of the bristle pad spreads out the pressure so it cannot scratch to hard yet allows you to get as deeply into the scratch that you want by varying the pressure that you apply. The curved handle is long enough and curved perfectly to reach the entire back. It is well crafted and sturdy. Were I to lose it somehow I would not hesitate to buy it again. If you want an aggressive but safe scratch this is the one. A more moderate or softer scratch is possible by applying lighter pressure. Spend the money. You've found it with this one! I was somewhat surprised at how good this backscratcher is. I've had many that fall short, but I really like this one. I find it works better on bare skin than over a shirt (it tends to get tangled in the fabric) It gives a nice, aggressive "foot tappin" back scratch. It leaves the skin tingly. This is a solid product. It satisfies your desire to eliminate annoying itching without tearing you apart. The handle is rather long, so I find myself grabbing it in the middle.

This is a really great back scratcher. It's long enough to reach your entire back and the curve is perfect so there is no struggle to get it into the small of your back. The only problem is I tried it on my dog and she likes it so much I spend more time scratching her back then I do my own. It's a lot easier to scratch her with this than my hand. I don't have to bend over when I'm in a chair and she's at my feet.I will have to order another one for myself because although I love her, I don't want to use the same one.

Getting there, the design. I needed a long, more curved one. But I need it to be a bit lighter with the bamboo thinner, about 1/2 as thick--more like 1/8" thick for lightness and slight flexibility, though still bamboo, as I love bamboo. I like any item I use to be as lightweight as absolutely possible, so I was even going to try making my own before this came out. I discovered that those stainless kitchen tongs that have an oval scalloped cut (when taken apart, you get two) scratch my itch better that anything else I've tried, but they are not curved on the arm, and they aren't 23" like I need. This backscratcher could use even a little more curve than it has, but its length is so much better than all on the other short ones! THAT was a long time coming! Thank you for that. I may trim the scratcher bristles an 1/8" shorter so they don't have ball ends on them. The balls on the bristles interfere with a satisfying scratch, but some people might have more sensitive skin. I gave arthritis so my hands need a thinner grip and lighter weight, but that might not bother people without pain and who have more muscle bulk.All in all, I would generally recommend this to others--it is clearly more thought out than many designs on the market, and the finish is buffed quite smoothly for bamboo.
