What is the difference between the regular wound & skin care and this one called hydrogel? I have dogs

I adore Vetrycin. If it is a wound that can heal, Vetrycin will get it there, at least in my experience. There is a big difference between the gel and the regular spray. I much prefer the regular spray because it sprays freely.  In contrast, the hydrogel tends to clog up so the nozzle needs constant cleaning. I have a dog and several cats so having Vetrycin on hand is absolutely essential.  Hope this helps. I can't think of any product I would recommend more.

Does this need to be covered with a dressing, to keep the cat from licking it? Or does it create a protective shield like a 'liquid bandage'?

You need to find out from your vet if the wound should be covered,different types of wounds need air others need to be covered. This product is exceptional,your cat can lick it without doing any harm like getting sick from the product,,but again,you need to check because your vet may not want the wound disturbed by constant licking as only cats can do. My baby,had a cancerous lesion that was removed and we used this product after surgery. It was wonderful! I loved the fact it was a gel and adhered to the wound unlike a cream that gets so messy.

what is difference between two? i use gel but plugs up.  great product. does 1 do something the other does not do?

The gel will seal an area and give some protection. I've used it on a serious wound  with excellent results. Rinse the sprayer under warm water before capping and storing. The hotspot spray is just as it says. It stops the biting and relentless scratching so the area can heal. One of our cats is a nervous type and this spray calms the area she is digging or licking so she doesn't end up with wounds.
