Kindle Fire HD 8 Plus Review: Affordable Performance with a Few Trade-offs
The Kindle Fire HD 8 Plus is Amazon’s value-driven tablet that punches above its weight class in several key areas—especially price. Designed for casual media consumption, light productivity, and Alexa integration, this tablet finds a sweet spot for budget-conscious users. 🔹 Pros: + Great Value: At under $120, the Fire HD 8 Plus offers a solid feature set that rivals tablets twice its price. It’s a perfect entry-level option or secondary device. + Solid Build Quality: Despite the plastic shell, the tablet feels durable and sturdy in hand. It’s compact and lightweight, making it ideal for travel or kids. + Improved Performance: With 3GB RAM (an upgrade from the standard Fire HD 8’s 2GB), the Plus model handles multitasking and app switching better. For casual use—streaming, reading, browsing—it performs smoothly. + Wireless Charging & USB-C: Wireless charging support is a standout feature in this price range. USB-C also means faster charging and modern compatibility. + Alexa Show Mode: Turns the tablet into a smart display, essentially giving you an Echo Show experience when docked or placed on a stand. 🔸 Cons: – Fire OS Limitations: Fire OS is essentially a modified Android, and it heavily pushes Amazon’s ecosystem. Without the Google Play Store (unless you sideload it), app selection is limited. – Display Quality: The 8" HD screen is serviceable, but not remarkable. It’s a bit reflective, with modest resolution (1280x800), which can feel dated compared to modern tablets. – Camera and Speakers: The 2MP front and rear cameras are basic, best used for quick video calls or scanning documents. Speakers are average—fine for personal listening, but nothing immersive. 🔹 Best For: Casual users who want a reliable tablet for streaming, eBooks, light browsing Amazon Prime members who can maximize integration Parents looking for a kid-friendly device (with optional Kids+ subscription) Budget shoppers who don’t need flagship specs Verdict: The Kindle Fire HD 8 Plus offers excellent value for its price, especially if you’re already in the Amazon ecosystem. It’s not a productivity powerhouse, but for media, reading, and light apps, it does the job admirably. The wireless charging and added RAM make it a worthy upgrade over the base model.

Better Than A Big Name Brand Tablet!
This Kindle performs great compared to the old Kindles! They have really amped up their devices, and they really have kept them versatile, super fast, and modern. With the easy to use Android OS, there's really nothing you can't do on these things because you have every app available from the Google Play Store. They are no longer an eReader, but a complete tablet, now. The screen on these things is really outstanding, and images are so crystal clear that its hard to imagine one thats better. If you're considering purchasing a tablet for a kid, don't waste your money on some outrageously expensive tablet that wouldn't perform as well as this tablet would. As someone who has a Samsung tablet and a Kindle, the Kindle is just as good, if not better, than my Samsung. It is enough for any person who uses their tablet to surf, shop, game, and conference. It really is that good! These things are most certainly worth the money!

Second tablet even better than the first
The first tablet was purchased ten years ago to replace a broken Samsung tablet and still works but it was not holding a charge for long, so I decided it was time for a replacement. This new one has better display resolution and great responsiveness. I love it! Great product and I got it during a sale!

Value at a great price
My old Android tablet died and I needed a new one for a couple of tasks I regularly use it for. My main need is to control an audio mixer for a PA system. Since a compatible software install was available for the Fire 8 this has worked out great. The cost is hard to beat. I got the 8 plus with added storage and the add removal and it was still cheaper than my previous tablet. The screen looks awesome to me but I'm not a screen snob so take it as hearsay. The built in apps all seem to work well. Hulu is available which is nice as it isn't available for normal Android tablets. On the other hand the App Store is pretty pathetic. No Youtube app so if you use Youtube TV you won't be happy. Normal Youtube can be viewed in the browser so no big deal for me. No Rumble app. No Brave browser which is my preferred (I did get it to work from a sideload even though it says it's not supported it works fine.). Most other media apps are here like Pluto TV, Tubi, Netflix, ESPN etc. and they all seem to work well. Most of the built in apps seem to be obvious data hogs to suck up your personal info and suck it into the Amazon databases. I don't like the photo app for this same reason. I do not store my data in any "cloud". The cloud is just a fancy name for someone else's computers where they have access to your data. That said the tablet performs well, just be careful with your settings and what you put on it. The only other real complaint is the locked down home launcher. It has the appearance of the Amazon store homepage. It's ugly and the functionality and customization is very limited. It's not a deal breaker for my needs but it would be nice if Amazon could find a middle ground to allow more customization and still meet their marketing needs which is the obvious goal of this inexpensive offering. All things considered if you don't mind the intentional limitations and mostly plan to use it for reading and media then this deal is well worth it. Very happy with my choice so far. Update: It made it 11 months. For some unknown reason it turned off two days ago and is a brick. No power, no charging light, reset doesn't work, it's just dead. I really liked the usefulness of this tablet and used it daily. Now I'm debating if I should replace it or get a more expensive brand that may last longer and be more flexible.
