J-B Weld 8258 KwikWood Wood Repair Epoxy Putty Stick-7 inch, Beige

I'm writing this review for anyone who, like I did, needs to find a product that can literally replace the wood that is causing them trouble and provide the strength and structural integrity required for subsequent drilling, screwing, mounting, etc... I wasn't able to find an individual review that covered those things, all together, specifically, so I had to piece together a "story" that I could trust by reading many, many reviews. If you're looking for assurance of the capabilities of this product, here it is. This is a great product. I feel like I'm a little obsessed with my pursuit of products that do exactly what they claim to (and even beyond if you have the imagination to find new uses). When I find those kinds of products, I'm loyal for life. Well I'm writing this review because this is one of those products. I've tried similar offerings like this from other companies, but they were always a let down. They would get crumbly or be too weak to hold a screw, or never feel truly rigid and strong. This time around I needed something that wouldn't force me to compromise. This time around I needed something that actually worked as advertised. The final result had to be able to hold a screw and hold up to significant force/weight or my entire endeavor would be a waste of time. Well this KwikWood is the real deal. I dug out a bunch of rotted wood that had completely lost all of its structural integrity. The cavity that was left was an inch wide and an inch and a half deep. There was no wood left to screw anything into. So in comes KwikWood. I mixed the putty as directed (confusing at first because it looked like a single piece of material; however it's actually one kind of putty surrounded by another and once you mash the layers together, they become one and the capability to be shaped and also harden is activated). I then began pressing it into the cavity, compacting it over and over as much as possible so that it could "become" the cavity. I wanted every nook and cranny to be filled so that the end result would offer zero give. Mission accomplished. I let it sit over night (not necessary, according to the directions, but I was tired) and by the morning I was surprised to find that it had completely hardened. It felt almost like something slightly softer than stone, but much harder than wood. I had to cut it down a little to the perfect shape and using a blade with my hand to do it was quite difficult. What I ended up doing was using a flat head Xacto blade with a hammer in order to chisel away material. Well that worked like a charm. It's so dense that only what opposes the blade is removed - no unwanted big chunks break off. As far as accepting and holding screws goes, it again lives up to its claims. It is dense and not crumbly. If you have long screws you may actually want to drill pilot holes or it will be some work to screw deeply into this stuff (probably more difficult than with wood). Hopefully this review helps. This is a great product.

I used KwikWood to repair a large chip on the rim of my Dhol (Indian double-headed drum). The edge had lost a chunk of wood that was affecting both appearance and sound. Ease of Use: The putty is simple to work with—cut off what you need, knead it until the color is uniform, and press it into place. It has a workable time of a few minutes before it begins to harden, so you can shape it to match the contour of the rim. Performance: Once cured (about an hour), it was rock solid and bonded perfectly to the wood. It didn’t shrink or crack, even after tightening the drum lugs. The repaired section feels just as strong as the original wood. Finish Quality: The tan color blended well enough for my instrument’s finish, and it sands easily for a smooth, flush edge. I was able to stain it slightly to better match the drum’s tone. Durability: After multiple playing sessions, the repair is holding perfectly—no signs of loosening or wear. The rim now looks and feels intact, and the drum’s resonance is back to normal. Bottom Line: Whether it’s for furniture, instruments, or general woodworking, KwikWood delivers a professional-quality repair with minimal fuss. Highly recommended if you need a quick, strong, and shapeable wood fix.

Review: This stuff works extremely well. I used it to repair damaged areas in a piece of furniture where the wood around the screw holes had broken apart. It was easy to work into the damaged areas, and after giving it plenty of time to fully cure, it became very hard and solid. I was able to drill into the repaired area and reinstall the screws securely. Much stronger than I expected and saved me from having to replace the damaged piece. Definitely something worth keeping around for furniture and wood repairs.

I had to repair a loose Japanese Wa knife handle that I epoxied back in place. Whoever made the handle put a round hole in the handle where the blade fits and I used this JB wood epoxy to fill the voids around the knife blade. Mixing is easy (wear nitrile or latex gloves), it gets very hard when totally set up, it has a putty like consistency that is fairly thick. It is very light colored, like unfinished white pine. I tried mixing this product with several types of stain including oil base and gel wood stains and they would not mix with this epoxy putty. I filled the voids and let them dry and tried the wood stain again and it would not work. This epoxy has zero porosity for oil or gel stain. In my shop, I had a small vial of black epoxy color that I applied with a small artists brush to the light colored epoxy and that worked pretty well. This wood epoxy is 5 stars if you are applying paint over it but staining without epoxy specific was not possible for me.

Another great JB weld product! So my son came through the garage with a weight bar not realizing the door right across was closed....I didn't want to replace the whole door, so I gave this a try. I pulled the door, screwed in some screws in the hole for structure, and filled the space with this putty. I put wax paper over it and rolled it flat with a rolling pin...use what you have I say! After it dried it was completely solid. I sanded it until it was flat all around. Because it's a wood filler it did leave a little texture on my flat door, I patched over it with a dap filler (the pink one...aslo bought from Amazon). It came out very smooth. After painting it, you can hardly tell. I have to look at it from the side to even find the repair. The filler dried hard, it looked like there was never any damage. I have even knocked on the space and it's completely solid. It's actually harder than the rest of the door. It's been over a year, and there has been zero shrinkage. I also used it on a shelf I bought clearanced because of damage. Similar procedure....I drilled holes and added toothpicks with some wood glue for structure. Once it dried, I cut the toothpicks level to the height of the rim. Then, I molded the jb weld around the space, sanded it, and stained it. There's a lot of stuff out there to fill a space, but with this stuff you can completely recreate. I have saved hundreds of dollars using this product...way worth the money!

Cons / Important Notes: * Fast Working Time: You only have about 20–25 minutes maximum to shape and position the putty before it starts setting, so work quickly. * Hard Curing: Dries rock-hard, which is great for strength, but manual hand-sanding thick repairs will quickly tire out your arm—an electric sander is definitely recommended for larger jobs. Tips for Best Results: * Prep the Surface: Make sure to rough up the repair area first so the epoxy gets a good grip. * Drying Time: Wait a full 24 hours for it to fully cure and harden before doing your final fine-sanding and painting. Verdict: A total lifesaver for outdoor wood repairs. It allowed me to restore structural edges on my porch pillars rather than spending hundreds on replacement wood. If you take the time to prep the surface properly and use a power sander for the finish work, the results look seamless and last.

This stuff is amazing as I had to reform the edge of my cabinet door that our dog had chewed on. Looks perfect now and paints over easily and is very hard compared to the original wood.

It came out a lot lighter than it appeared to be on the listing and what it said it was on the listing. It was a very light beige or even a cream color. By the time I found that it wasn't going to get any darker (because I was hoping it would change as it dried or something) it was too dry to take off. Now I have to find some special chemical to take it off with. It dried pretty quickly for putty. Everything else seems to be true about the product. If it was the right color, I could easily sand it out to smooth it. It was slightly annoying to put on over the gouges and scratches I was trying to fill in over my wooden silverware drawer. It didn't want to stay where I put it. But after a bit of fiddling with it, I got it where I wanted it.

Really easy to use. Had a great furniture that cracked during moving time. The weld filled in and dry beautifully and my son finished with paints. From a distance you would never notice.

This product has been awsome in my wooden boat. Can be used everywhere, is sandable, stainable and is as strong as existing wood. I will be purchasing more.

As described. I mistakenly broke one of my Ikea wardrobe pieces knowing how much fragile Ikea wood is. Used this product to fix it and it did exactly what it supposed to do. Fixed it in less an hour.

I broke the shelf of my TV cabinet during assembly. The screw holding the shelf broke, and took with it a chunk of the MDF board. I did a youtube search and decided to order this kwikwood. I followed the instructions on the box. The putty was easy to mix and apply. One hour later after application, it got rock hard, and was easy to sand down and paint. My Tv cabinet now looks like brand new! Definitely worth it
