Lots of Good Recipes
I like these recipes because they use good, healthy ingredients. None of the recipes call for cans of creamed soup or other such processed ingredients, like so many other crock pot recipes do. There are a Good mix of "set it and forget it recipes" and others that require more prep and attention. None are overly complicated, but you should be aware that the title is a bit misleading. The "five ingredients" refer to the main ingredients specific to each recipe, but most require several pantry staples to complete the recipe.

organized and well laid out
Over all I like this book very much. The recipes are down to earth easy to do and practical. I have already picked several recipes that will work for me. Pros: All recipes are scaled for a standard 6 quart crock pot. The beginning of the book lists pantry items, spices, flour, oil, sugar, salt, broth, etc as a basic set of items to have to do any of the recipes. These items are not counted as the "five ingredients". This is ok with me since it is so clearly stated in the beginning of the book. I actually like that it has all the spices listed up front. I can just get them all, there are not too many. Then I will be prepared for any of the recipes. In the recipes the "five" unique items are high lighted, making it easy to quickly read and shop. The ingredients are common and easy to get in the measurement listed. I don't see any "cream-of" canned soup used anywhere in the book. Cons: The first page of a chapter has a few images but mostly the recipes do not have pictures. The paper used for the book is ok, not thick and glossy.

Many are more than 5 ingredients
Many of the recipes are more than 5 ingredients. I haven't tried the recipes yet. For example, page 116, meat sauce is 12 ingredients. Page 114 country style ribs, 8 ingredients. Page 100 Massaman Beef Curry, 10 ingredients. I am concerned about how the recipes will turn out if the author and the number 5 have a misunderstanding. Catchy book title, though. I fell for the misleading title. I get it, 5 ingredients if one doesn't count the magical pantry that everyone supposedly has on hand. The recipes look easy enough, as usually slow cooker recipes seem to miss the point and require 20 or 30 minutes of prep. By that time, honestly, it's just faster to make something else. This one seems to have reasonably short prep times, atleast. Will update as I try the recipes.

Easy to adapt to GF/DF/nut-free diets
I have a hard time buying "regular" cookbooks while working around nut allergies, lactose intolerance, and a preference for eating gluten-free. After looking through the sample of this book, I decided to take a chance and have not been disappointed. The author does a great job of calling out allergy swaps where they are able to be made, and there are also a lot of recipes that meet our needs without making adjustments. I have found the cook times to be accurate, and the dishes are generally flavorful and easy to assemble. After having spent the last few years cooking mostly with an Instant Pot, this book has been helpful in getting me reacquainted with a slow cooker for the nights when I'm not home to cook dinner due to running kids to activities. As others have noted, these recipes don't really have five ingredients, but more like five main ingredients. Things like spices and water don't count toward the five. Personally, I don't find this to be a deterrent because most of the meals I make have longer ingredient lists than this, anyway, but I can see how some might not be totally excited about it. Also, she uses frozen mirepoix as a main ingredient in a lot of recipes, and I have not been able to find this anywhere in my area, so be aware that there may be some additional chopping required for some of the recipes.

Recipes Require More Than Five Ingredients, But I Still Love This Cookbook!
I am reviewing this book a year after purchasing it, so I have used it many times over the past year. The recipes are simple and hard to mess up. As others mentioned, most recipes assume you have standard staples in your spice rack like garlic powder, cumin, chili powder, etc. I saw complaints about that, but if you don't have those standard seasonings in your possession, your food is not going to taste good anyway! There aren't any pictures as others mentioned except at the beginning of the chapters, but most of the recipes are simple anyway, so you don't need a picture of what chili or drumsticks look like as finished products. My cookbooks with lots of glossy photos are much more expensive, so I'm perfectly happy without the pictures. My only small complaint is that the book doesn't stay open while you're using it unless you place something heavy on it, so a ring-bound version might be nice, but those usually allow the last few pages to slip off the ring anyway, so I guess it's a wash. The book is thin, doesn't take up much space and fits nicely with the rest of my cookbooks. Overall, I am very satisfied with the recipes in this book and have made many delicious meals using it. I have turkey-lentil chili in the slow cooker as I write this! The book has mostly "set & forget" recipes, which I love. I don't like slow cooker recipes with several steps. That defeats the main purpose of the slow cooker for me, which is ease. I want to turn it on and have the meal ready in hours without having to check on it or add items at various cooking points. I will add also that this book is very heavy on soups and chilis, which is fine with me. But if you are looking for a slow cooker recipe book with more main dishes versus soups/chilis, you may not be happy with this book.

Simple to use
Love that these recipes have only five main ingredients. We bought this for our son in law to go with a crockpot for Christmas, and he just loves it! He uses this every weekend to make my daughter wonderful easy meals!
