The ECOWITT Wittboy GW2001 kit (GW2000 IoT Hub + WS90 7-in-1 sensor array) has been fantastic. Setup was quick, Wi-Fi connectivity to the GW2000 hub is rock-solid, and data updates continuously without dropouts. While the built-in piezoelectric (haptic) rain gauge on the WS90 is great for instant rain-onset detection, piezoelectric sensor totals can vary depending on droplet size and storm intensity. Adding a dedicated Ecowitt WH40 tipping bucket rain gauge solved this completely. The GW2000 hub recognized the WH40 immediately and allows you to set it as the primary rainfall source for precise accumulation totals, while retaining all wind, UV, light, temperature, and humidity telemetry from the WS90 array. Excellent sensor ecosystem, great build quality, and effortless integration. Recommend.

This is a great entry level weather station for getting extremely local weather information, and I love how it can be used on the local network, and even be blocked from external connections and still work, that's a rarity in today's tech world. I will say that I'm not so sure the rain gauge is accurate, BUT, if you have a normal rain gauge (I do not currently), you can take readings, compare, and alter the rain gauge on the local webpage for the hub to help it be more precise. It easily integrates into Home Assistant, and plenty of scripts can be written for it, like in the second picture in this review. Every sensor highlighted is straight from either the weather station or the included hub, but the ones not highlighted are calculated custom template sensors I added. The 'Feels like' temperature takes the wind speed and current temperature into account for wind chill (not 100% accurate, but I bet it could be if I included the sunlight/”radiation” into the equation), or it will take the temperature and the humidity when applicable and calculate the heat index. Still have yet to try the latter out, as it is a bit cold here at the moment, but looking forward to testing it out this spring. The 'Fire risk' takes the rain average over the last 10 days (default data storage for home assistant – haven't changed it), the current humidity, and the temperature into account to calculate the current fire risk. I am still learning, but this is all with sensor data that this weather station can output! Looking forward to doing more with it, and if you have smart lights, you can make a sliding scale for how bright they may be based on the sunlight the weather station is receiving, etc. Nearly endless possibilities. The hub itself supports much more than just this weather station, and we currently have three Ecowitt thermometers connected to it with no issues. Also looking forward to expanding our Ecowitt device collection and doing more home automation with them, too! Side note - if you are wanting to power your weather station via normal power, or use the heater, the cable for that is not available on Amazon (At least it wasn't for us at the time of purchasing), and it was quite pricey.

I installed this weather station on my dock. I originally was going to return the system because of the inadequate instructions but the seller responded promptly to my set up questions so I cancelled the return. Once installed it seems to be working fine. This is a system that needs Internet access either through WiFi or Ethernet cable. It does not have a monitor and the only to view the data is through a phone app. This is actually better because you can review the data remotely rather than being tied to a monitor. The wind speed monitor seems more durable than the spinning cup design. The only reason I did not give it a 5 start rating is because of the inadequate set up instructions.

I wanted a weather station to add to my Home Assistant, mostly just for fun. But after using it for a couple weeks now, I'm impressed with how accurate it is. I have it mounted about 20 feet in the air, and I was concerned about the nearby trees (40'-60' Oaks and Poplar all around our yard, some within 50' of the station) distorting wind readings, but when I have compared with our nearby airport, they consistently match. The rain readings also matched our manual rain guage. So, whatever solid-state magic ECOWITT is using is very impressive. Relative pressure also matches the airport (just looked up my elevation online, and entered the pressure offset in the ECOWITT configuration web page). Integration into Home Assistant was very easy, I'm using ApexCharts and WindRose cards, which give very appealing displays for all the data I want (temp, humidity, dewpoint, wind speed & direction, pressure, even sun light). And by chance I installed the "base station" inside my chicken coup (just to be nearer the weather station), and found the precision and finer granularity of the temperature tracking much better than the YoLink X3 I was using - showed me a problem with the previous thermostat. So, I ended up replacing that too. Wish I would have started with the ECOWITT and never bought the Yolink or previous thermostat control (now just using a WiFi switch and an HA automation, much more flexible).

Update (March 2026 - 1 star): WS90 haptic sensor array has failed. One of the two supercapacitors has failed and the electrolyte has leaked out (picture shows it removed). A few days prior to disassembly and discovery of the failed supercapacitor, the anemometer started reading a constant 14.5 MPH no matter what. I tried updating the firmware and recalibrating the ultrasonic anemometer to no avail. Not sure if I’d buy this again given it didn’t last 2 years. Previously I contacted Ecowitt’s support and they ignored me after I asked a follow up question and they never responded. Original review (purchased July 2024) 5 stars: This is my first PWS, but I did a lot of research prior to purchasing and this one checks a lot of boxes and is a great value. The haptic array provides accurate readings despite being devoid of moving parts. My station reads the same wind speed and direction as neighboring units. It is also within 0.1” in terms of rainfall. The HP2561 display (which was already fully setup and connected to WiFi) connected *immediately* to the haptic array…that portion of the already quick and easy connectivity process was very impressive. That HP2561 display acts as an Internet gateway and has good resolution. The layout on the main/home screen is easy and pleasant to read. Some have expressed complaints about setting up WiFi, etc…hard to enter the data. It’s for sure a little clunky, but not difficult once you learn to navigate the menus. Once everything was communicating, it was time to mount the array on a 8’ stick of galvanized EMT tubing. In terms of mountability, that was easy as well - it cinches onto the EMT with a compression style fitting easily managed by hand. So far it hasn’t budged at all. I’ve integrated it with my Home Assistant server and that too was absolutely effortless and fast. There is a lot of great data to mine and analyze from this array.

I just want to give these folks an enthusiastic thumbs-up for making integrations so painless. A lot of companies put you through an ordeal that includes cloud services, proprietary apps, and launching a local AP so you can give it your Wi-Fi credentials and on and on and on... but Ecowitt just works without any of that nonsense. Pop in the ethernet cable, find the device in your router admin to get the IP, login with a browser and there's your data. Want to integrate with home assistant? Paste in the IP and Port of your target machine along with the API that it provides (all local) and again, it just works. I wish this was universal. Thanks to these folks for doing it right. Oh, and the device itself is delightful. Smooth well-behaved data that correlates perfectly with my other sources, and sensible power management. I mounted the outdoor unit on a folding Marine antenna base with some self vulcanizing rescue tape over the threads to increase diameter slightly. Works perfectly. My application is on a mobile laboratory, so I have it oriented with relative bearing and use observed compass heading to offset wind direction (as well as ignoring wind speed while moving and not reporting to public services, of course). The solar watts per square meter datum helps with management of my solar installation.

Finally! Ultrasonic Anemometer tech at a reasonable consumer price. Ive wanted an ultrasonic anemometer for years, but have not been willing to pay the price. Finally, the tech has trickled down. Not having the old mechanical style anemometer makes for a much more compact form factor. And presumably more trouble free (but Ive only been running this unit for about 6 months...too soon to tell). And better yet, they made their protocol open so that it is easy to integrate with other systems, like Home Assistant. A hint to other vendors: proprietary protocols are no longer a competative advantage....open protocols are!

A bit pricy, but Ecowitt is one of the few all local data and control weather stations. it collects data locally, but it take a bit of work to calibrate the data collection. With a little effort if works with Home Assistant. Works great with the Windrose card. No subscriptions or off site servers!

Really happy with this weather station I really love the Ecowitt GW90. The setup was much easier than I expected, and the video instructions were clear and easy to follow. I also connected it to my home automation system and added it to my Amazon Echo/Alexa setup, and the integration was seamless. Everything worked together without any headaches. Calibration is really simple too. Adjusting the barometric pressure was straightforward, and the other readings can be calibrated just as easily if needed. I installed mine on the roof, and the supplied fitting made that part very simple. You will need your own mounting pole or bracket, but once you have that, installation is pretty easy. Overall, I’m really impressed with it. Easy to set up, easy to calibrate, and works great with my smart home. Very happy with the purchase!

I've been running this for a few months now and it's held up really well. Build quality feels solid, and having no moving parts on the rain sensor is a genuinely nice touch for reliability, since it removes one of the more common failure points you get with traditional tipping bucket rain gauges that can wear out, jam or need recalibrating over time. Only issue i have had with it is since it uses a Piezo style rain sensor it will sometime detect morning dew heating up and running off as rain detected, If you want a more accurate reading of rain levels pair this with a Ecowitt WH40H rain bucket. Setting it up with Home Assistant was straightforward using the local API integration. You require the gateway to allow the WH90 to output the data to Home Assistant so there's no reliance on cloud services or third party apps just to get your data flowing. Once connected, updates come through quickly and the readings stay stable, without the dropouts or laggy data I've experienced with some other weather sensors in the past. Being a full 7 in 1 station, you're getting a lot of sensors covering wind, rain, temperature, humidity, UV and solar radiation all built into one unit, which makes for a clean setup rather than mounting multiple separate sensors around the property. Great value for what you get, and after a few months of consistent, stable readings I'm happy to recommend it.

It’s working well for most features however our unit gets three times the rain compared to other local units. Hours on message boards told us we were in over our heads. Will be purchasing a separate rain gauge, to pair with this unit. Also this unit has more features and available add ons, than we really needed. Live and learn. Still a decent price point, to be fair.
