Double Spiced Falernum Syrup

I had a bottle of falernum in days gone by—the John D. Taylor Velvet Falernum which is pretty widely available. I always thought it was disappointingly low on spiciness, and after teh bottle had sat around for a decade, and I’d drifted away from cocktail experimentation, I finally poured the remains down the drain. Recently, I saw a recipe for something which called for falernum, and found this non-alcoholic syrup here. It’s VERY flavorful, especially clove flavor, and was great in whatever I made. I’ve used it in a couple of other cocktails since, and much prefer it to the alcoholic version. You don’t need much to get a good payoff in a drink. It arrived safely and securely packaged— kind of a fancy package as I recall. I recommend it!

Tippleman's Double Falernum is honestly one of the best syrups I have ever bought. I first grabbed it to use in a tropical tiki punch as it was recommended by name in the recipe. In comparison to other falernums I've tried it made the punch brighter and way more complex layered than a syrup should. The spices come through without being too strong, and it mixes super easy. I also tried it in a Corn and Oil, and it was perfect. The rich spice and little hint of sweetness balanced out the rum so nicely. It made the drink taste like something you would get at a little cozy tiki spot. Lately I have been working on a homemade Velvet Falernum style clone using my own spiced rum and this syrup as the base. Tests sob far? Amazing. I think falernum is one of those magical ratios of the standard tiki ingredients that hits every time. This is a great product, and I hear I got gifted another bottle... so excited!

This stuff is amazing. Delicious. My new favorite thing. I'm telling all my friends about it.

Let me say up front, I am not a drinker. A friend let me taste a sip of their falernum rum and it really good, yet too strong for me. But I really like the taste and started thinking of different ways to use it. So, I put it on pancakes or waffles, over ice cream, even in cakes. I am sure there are a bunch of other ways to use it, so I just keep it on hand. It's great!

As another reviewer has previously stated, the flavor of clove is dominant, but I find it not unpleasant or too sweet. I tasted it straight and mixed it with water to come to this conclusion. In a tiki cocktail, it can add some necessary spice without overpowering strong citrus or rum flavors.

Excellent flavor! We really enjoyed this flavor making our favorite mixed drink (Saturn cocktail). We've also found it a great additive to sparkling water. Though there is some sugar it isn't an overwhelming flavor. Will buy this brand again.

As a tiki cocktail hobbyist - I'm always on the lookout for the next great thing in falernum. This is it. I cannot imagine a commercial cocktail syrup could possibly be better. Truly rich and complex - with no "artificially" type flavors and without the cloying simplicity of something that tastes like a syrup for coffee. Worth every penny
