My Osteopath Recommended This Thumb Brace - It helps to reduce pain.
Great little thumb brace! My osteopath recommended it. I wore it with their cloth thumb braces and my hand and thumb were do much happier. Together with hand and thumb PT exercises they gradually help to reduce the pain to nothing for weeks at a time. It has adjustable straps and is so easy to use. The design is minimal so wearing it all day is not cumbersome and it made of a durable material that can get wet and dries easily.

Works! Can even sometimes forget it's on!
Thank goodness for this thing, seriously. I can pick things up again! Hallelujah! I seem to have done a damage to my poor thumb, which also seems to be not that uncommon, from what I've been reading. Many of us are overusing them these days, with typing and texting, or gaming. While results are pending for me with the doctor, that seems to at least be part of the problem. Whatever the reason, it had gotten to the point where I couldn't hold onto anything with my left hand thanks to the pain that would shoot through my thumb. Enter several braces. The one from Futuro works okay, but the thing is, it's bulky and made of fabric, and so every dang time you want to wash your hands or if you need to - god forbid - put a glove on for something, you're just going to need to take it off. That's a hassle. Also the velcro wears out and it's part of the thing so you can't replace it, really... Then I found this one, after trying a couple of other things. It didn't LOOK comfortable. And I'll be honest. Sometimes it isn't. But that's any brace, potentially. It feels a lot better if you wear the little 'liner' they send with it (I bought another pack, in fact, you can find them, and a style that has a little more wrist support in it, too, from the same company, here on Amazon), it helps keep the plastic from chafing, or the velcro attachments from scratching. Critical, if you ask me. Do I adjust it during the day? Yeah. Does it get uncomfortable sometimes? Yeah, usually the end of the day. Do I also wear the thing every single day, for pretty much the whole time I'm awake, and forget it's on for long periods at a stretch? Yeah, and I never thought, from looking at it, that that would be true, but it's way more comfortable than it looks. It also fits under a nitrile glove, and a dish glove. You might lose a few nitriles here and there to an edge catching it and tearing, but it FITS, so you can do your crafts or cleaning and be gloved up and STILL braced! I literally couldn't find a single other one (other than looking at the hugely overpriced ones similar to this) that would fit under a glove like that. Range of motion is slightly restricted (of course) but it doesn't FEEL nearly as restrictive as most braces, which is also kind of amazing. How can it keep the pain at bay AND let me move around enough to feel close to normal? It also comes with TWO velcro straps, the one it starts with and a SPARE (hurray!), which is awesome, and the little liner thing besides, which is a heck of a lot more value than most of these companies want to give you. It's not perfect, but it's close enough for me for now, and it has become a critical part of my everyday routine, for now. Highly recommend.

Works Great but wore out quickly
Likes: The elastic protection sleeve is nice because the actual splint is fairly stiff. It prevents chaffing and rubbing from the splint and adds some support. The splints are adjustable with the velcro straps and since there are two of them I can customize the support. The splints themselves have metal inside of them that can be bent to the needs of the wearer. They are very supportive and helpful when I know I am going to be doing a lot of lifting and help when I am working on my computer too. They came with an extra set of velcro straps which is nice because they do stretch out over time. They seem less bulky than other splints I have found on Amazon. I like the lower profile. Dislikes: The left hand splint tore where the soft plastic and the metal meet. I have had these for 8 months and it seems like they should have lasted longer than that for the price. The elastic sleeve doesn't breath very well. They don't wash up well either. I tried both handwashing and machine washing. I had to replace them because they get smelly and stretched out. The metal in the splint is a bit difficult to bend because I have arthritis. I had to get help to shape them to my hand. Overall Review: They have been a lifesaver for me and have increased my productivitiy level significantly. I would purchase them again and have purchased new sleeves already. I wear them regularly.

Instant relief
Wow. Instant relief. I am a crocheter. I have made hundreds of afghans. Lots of repetitive motion on my right thumb. Went to a specialist years ago and he prescribed a brace for my right hand. Also rest for that hand. And years ago that worked. Now Iโm in my seventyโs and rest doesnโt let it heal as fast as I would like it too. I was scrolling thru Facebook and saw an ad for a bowling type brace to help with the subluxation and decided to go to Amazon and see what was available for my problem. I found this brace and ordered it. Received it yesterday. Put it on this morning. The achy pain is gone and I have already crocheted a few rows on the current afghan project and also writing this review with the brace on. The shooting pain has disappeared. It makes my thumb feel โheld togetherโ. The fit is tight in the joint that is where the pain was so that feels great. The soft glove is necessary for me so it doesnโt rub on my skin. Although I wish it was longer but did go back to Amazon and saw that I can order the longer glove so I did order those. I am looking forward to many more hours of crocheting wearing this brace. I recommend it.

Really works for me & at a fraction of the cost of others
When at me Dr visit for my follow up on my knee replacement, mentioned to him that my osteoporosis arthritis in my hand seemed to be acting up, and when he just looked at it. he said my CMC joint was swollen, and can get a brace to help it. Suggested a huggie style and check Amazon. Well was shocked to see the prices!! Decided to take a chance on the Velpeau, for the price, and the fact that you can switch out the velcro strap, even though the reviews mention the separation issue, but they did say it worked until then. Well I got mine Dec 3rd, wear it almost every day, and have found great relief. Around March 8th brace felt a little different and when I looked @ it I noticed that the blue part was starting to separate. Contacted Velpeau and they were sorry for issue and asked for picture and sent them one. They promptly responded & were replacing it, I had a new one by March 12th!! I was so pleased w/ the brace that I purchased one for my right hand as well, in Jan. which doesn't act up as much. That one is still fine. I did change the velcro strap on my first left one little before it separated, not because of a velcro issue , but jit does get a little dirty & it was suggested in a review not washing it as it get a little stiff. The straps are cheap enough for 2 and worth getting just for sanitary reasons. I also purchase additional thumb sleeves as well for the same reason. The replacing of the straps was a big selling point for me, as the more expensive Push one has an attached strap and once the velcro goes, it's no good, your brace( @ $100) becomes useless. Even with getting the replacement straps, the cost is still better over time. The brace has the metal insert that you can adjust to fit you just right.the thumb sleeves help , no skin contact w/ the brace and my hand isn't sweaty. I also like the fact that it is less restrictive than others and that I can easily use my hands. Take a chance, I did and I'm so glad I did. I found that Velreau is a company that stands behind its product, not something you see much of these days. Quick replacement was sent and have no issues. Was worth taking a chance, the brace works and I found relief. I suggest giving it a try, think it's best brace for the price, but it also works.

Plastic separated
Despite the new design, mine separated at the base of the thumb after 7 months of wear. The soft plastic came apart from the hard plastic. It was fairly comfortable and I needed the inner sleeve to keep the plastic from irritating my skin. The sleeve worked well.

Adjustability & comfort
This brace works very good. Donโt tighten it too tight, read the directions and it does great. I wear it all night and take it off during the day and my pain is at a better level. The Velcro straps make the adjustments very easy to do. The pain in my hand is much better since I started using this brace.

Better than wraps, but not perfect
The two strap design is a little less comfortable that a single strap would be. Sizing is not real clear or consistent between similar products. I bought a medium and it is a little tight to get on. It works okay, but still get sharp pains that should be relieved by this design. UPDATE: doing manual labor may tear the soft material around the thumb joint where it meets the hard material. Further UPDATE: Gorilla super glue seems to hold the split together...we'll see

Works well and well made and priced well.
Have purchased similar braces from my orthopedic clinic. This is as good or better for less than half the price.

Pleasantly surprised at its effectiveness.
Pleasantly surprised. Helped my pain at base of thumb within days of wearing it for short stints. Good purchase.

Happy with this purchase
Fits well and does as described

Moderately effective
Cons - quality of velcro not up to the mark: also does not provide support to the junction of CMC Joint, Thumb Trapezium and the Wrist Bone. Personally unless the split provides collective support to all these zones, this product will continue to be so so type of product.
