what size buckles does this tape use? Other than a width of 1.5", does it matter?

My opinion is that you need 1.5 inch buckles. Webbing won’t fit in smaller buckles at all and may slip or slide around too much in anything larger. I found 1.5 inch buckles on eBay. Together with this webbing makes very nice hold down straps.

Can I buy extra hooks?

It’s polypropylene. It is similar to nylon, however nylon is slightly stretchy where polypropylene has less stretch. A backpack 🎒 strap.
