good product.
I am liking this. i have Austins in all my rooms except one. Every 4 years the austins require a $400-$500 filter that weighs a ton and is difficult to replace because of the weight and the nature of the sheet metal enclosure to spring into impossible shapes to put it back together. This is another generation. The filter replacement cost for 4 years is about $100 per year with 4 carbon and 2 hepas. (they recommend one but...) but the filters are very easy to replace, the air volume is greater and it is so quiet using a large diameter fan at a lower RPM to move a lot of air, quietly. Seems to remove salmon odor quickly when the carbon is new. We will see about its effectivness in a couple months. Overall this is a very good unit. Great for the money.

Passed the Fart-y Dog Test, the Skeptical Husband test, the Musty Crawlspaces Test, & More
First, I selected this based on Consumer Lab's ranking of it as runner-up to its #1 Large Space filter. The #1 selection was a ridiculous $600-$800 while this was nice $230 on sale (vs $399 normal). Heck, make this #1.Key features:(1) It has wifi-enabled companion app - but you can control it entirely from the air purifier itself which is good because frankly being able to avoid potentially cyber insecure IOT app for somethign that's largely unnecessary is great.(2) It automatically turns on plasma ionization when you turn it on, but you press the up & down (fan speed) buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds to turn it off.(3) If you run it on auto, when the lights are off (photo-sensitive not motion detection sensitive), it'll power down into ultra-low speed fan mode. Easy solution, turn off auto and leave it in low fan speed. Our dog farts like she's eaten deer poop. It's either get rid of the deer or the dog (joking), but we love our girl too much. Then there's the crawlspaces that were never encapsulated that give the house a musty smell while we're waiting to get them encapsulated this summer. And the skeptical husband. Enter this air purifier. It has approximately 5 air changes per hour for a 600-something SF space if I remember correctly. Within 30 minutes of turning it on, husbando and I noticeably detected fresher air throughout the house. Low and medium fan speeds aren't overly loud, and actually pleasantly low-key background noise. Even the high-speed is not particularly abrasive or overstimulating for you sensory-sensitive people. Plus it gives you 3 carbon filters from the start, each of which lasts 3 months if I remember correctly. So, all in all, super happy with this. Some reviews mentioned the LED light wasn't reliable - but someone who shall not be named (cough, the dog) audibly farted right in front of the purifier when she was sleeping (comically whoopee-cushion like which, if we couldn't breath immediately at least this time it was not because it was noxious but because we were laughing so hard) and the LED indicator IMMEDIATELY turned red. Ran for 5 minutes then the indicator went back to blue. Super great at dust removal, and our nostrils have been less congested between weekly house deep cleaning too.

Great Air Purifier for the Price... SUPER Quiet...
Much better than a couple smaller, less expensive units i recently bought but, they're good enough to serve their purpous in the other rooms. Much quieter than a larger one i've had for years... this one goes in my bedroom for sure...It's VERY quiet even on fan speed 2 {can fall asleep with it 4 feet from bed} ... On sleep mode, not audible from 4 feet (my ears) at all and can barely hear anything standing right over it. Even at max fan speed the sound is not obnoxious at all while listening to music or TV the "hshshsh" sound fades into the background very quickly. However, setting 1 or 2 moves plenty of air in my room for 24/7 use... well designed.I suspect why it's so quiet is why it's bigger and heavier (as well as whatever airflow engineering from R&D) is reason it is so quiet and yet moves LOTS of air. I suspect more room for sound deadening materials, larger fan motor and fan-wheel plus, large surface area filters makes for higher airflow at lower RPM fan speeds.Comes with One HEPA filter and 4 activated charcoal filter. The HEPA and one of the charcoal filter comes sealed in plastic already installed {don't forget to take the plastic off before use :} the other 3 come in a large resealable plastic bag {nice touch}. My environment is only moderately dusty so i suspect the filter "could" last for longer than recommended but, they are not that expensive so I think I'll replace them as required. As for "Plasmawave" ... there are some reviews that think (among other thing) that it "generates UV radiation" {huh?) or OZONE... Plasmawave was one of the thngs that also attracted me to WINIX. I actually had posted a review for the 9800 a couple days ago , but like a dummy, i posted a link directly to the WINIX website "Plasmawave technology FAQ page" that describes exactly what Plasmawave is and does... I recommend anyone "theorizing" what it is go vist that page...PSA: As for misinformed reviews i've read about Plasmawave... In air-purifiers that have "non-ionising" UV-C lamps, you are not exposed to anything anyway, since the bulbs are inside the unit closed off to direct UV exposure... However, "Plasmawave" has exactly "zero" UV bulbs. And as for those that think they are being exposed to toxic levels of ozone, there are safety regulations and this is NOT an "Ozone Generator" it is a type of "air ionizer" but not a conventional one... to learn more, go to the WINIX website.Great design. Great Technology. Recommended.

Worth my Sanity
I recently purchased the Winix 9800 air purifier to tackle a persistent issue with cigarette smoke infiltrating my living space through the AC/heating unit from a neighboring apartment. This device proved to be an absolute miracle worker. The added carbon filter effectively eliminates the scent of cigarettes while efficiently cleaning the air.One standout feature is its sensitivity to odors, whether they are unpleasant, like cigarette smoke, or pleasant scents like air fresheners. The low mode operates quietly, ensuring a peaceful environment while still being highly effective.Setting up the device was a breeze with its seamless WiFi or Bluetooth connectivity options. Additionally, integrating it with Alexa or Google for voice control adds to its convenience. Creating personalized schedules for when it operates or goes to sleep is incredibly easy, enhancing its usability.Overall, I give the Winix 9800 air purifier a perfect 10/10 rating and would highly recommend it to anyone dealing with similar air quality issues.

One Of The Best Air Purifiers On The Market (IMHO)
First of all, the dust situation in my home has decreased substantially, which is the main reason why I bought this. Another good reason is, when I had to call customer service soon after my purchase to ask a question, I actually got someone here in the USA, not someone overseas that I would have trouble understanding their broken English.

So far almost Perfect !!
Pros - This purifier "moves" air, and it does it quietly. Unlike other units I've tried the sensor in this unit actually works ! When it goes to red - "poor air", the fan speed turns up to high. It will turn yellow and the fan speed lowers, then when it senses clean air it switches to blue and the fan speed goes back to one. In the evening, as the room gets darker, the sensing light will go out. I guess they feel it will bother sleeping if used in a bedroom. At first I thought the unit was shutting off, but the fan was still running on low with the light out. It came alive and kicked up the fan speed when it detected poor air as it should. I like the multiple filters in the unit. We notice a big improvement in air quality including dust on furniture. The intake area on this unit is huge compared to other units. Cons - I downloaded the App to use Alexa. The App works on the phone to control the unit, but it will "not" work with Alexa. When asking Alexa to function the unit, it says purifier not responding. It seems to recognize the unit, but just won't control it. Customer service tried to guide me through a cure, but all efforts were fruitless. They couldn't even figure it out. We deleted and reinstalled the Apps a couple times. We don't really care if Alexa controls the unit, but if you are a Alexa die hard, good luck. Other than that, we have no other Cons ! We've been running it a couple weeks now and we are very happy with it. Will update review if anything develops. I gave it 4 stars because of the Alexa issue, but as far as cleaning the air performance, it's a definite "5".

Quiet, Powerful, and Great Air Quality
I've been using the Winix 9800 for a while now, and it's made a noticeable difference in the air quality in my home. It runs quietly, even at higher speeds, and does an excellent job reducing dust, pet odors, and cooking smells. The auto mode adjusts the fan speed based on the air quality, which is very convenient. The filters are easy to install, and the unit feels well made. Overall, it's a great investment for anyone looking to improve indoor air quality.

Burning Motor Smell After a Year of Use :(
*** 1 YEAR LATER UPDATE: I've been using this for a year, changing filters and cleaning it regularly. Suddenly this week it started putting off a BURNING SMELL when turned on. I think the engine must be overheating!!! :(I can't return it now so I guess it's just trash. What a waste of money for a potential fire hazard. Also the app refuses to connect to my wifi anymore, no matter what I do. So I have been unable to put the filter on a schedule for about the past 8 months. I wish I hadn't wasted my money. ***Iโm 100% happy with this purchase. My friend has a $500 fancy high tech purifier, but heโs jealous of mine now. The filters are a standard rectangular size so theyโre very affordable. It stands relatively compactly near the wall. Takes up less space and is quieter than my living room fan. I was able to hook up the app with no issue and easily set a schedule. It is WHISPER QUIET!!! Even on turbo it just sounds like a big fan blowing, no loud sounds. After only a day I noticed how clean the air in my house smells whenever I come home. I keep it on auto all day with an hour of turbo scheduled when Iโm out of the house (everyone in my home has allergies). Iโll update my review when I get the power bill. I love how the light sensor automatically puts it to sleep at night. This thing is so handy! Now on the bad, I only have 2 smallish issuesโฆThe app REQUIRES you to give permission to use your exact location just to use it. I donโt know if that is worth using it to create a schedule. Iโll probably delete it for that reason. I hope they make this optional in the future. And the โPlasmaWaveโ ionizer is a feature I honestly didnโt notice in the product description. FYI if you donโt know: ionizers put off UV radiation and is not advisable to be used indoors at all. If you have asthma or breathing issues it can make them worse or it can give them to you if you donโt have them. Luckily the UV can be aired out of your home over time or with open windows. Ionizers luckily donโt put out THAT MUCH UV but itโs still not recommended to use at all when youโre in the home. I settled on turning on the plasmawave about once a month for an hour, when Iโll be out of the house for at least 2 hours. Glad that I can easily just turn it on or off.I recommend this product very highly. The price may seem large for basically a big fan with a filter on it, but itโs so quiet and has exactly as many features as it needs. Nothing too fancy. Just a good machine that does whatโs needed. I can literally forget that it even exists because itโs on a set schedule and I donโt hear it! So happy to score this well on a large online purchase. :)

10/10
Whoever wrote a review about this purifier turning on automatically when their husband farts? Yeah. That was the review that made my husband want to choose this specific air purifier. One of the first things he did was fart in-front of this and become absolutely delighted when the indicator light turned red and started auto cleaning the air.So yeah, he loves it.Oh, and it works great to scrub cat related smells from the air too (wet food/litter box) which is why we were looking for an air purifier to begin with. (It is also incredibly quiet).
