Hard to beat... Handles like a baitcaster, no lag, momentum in the handle.
2nd reel! And I'll be buying a third. This handles like a baitcaster in the handle. It does not have lag or momentum in the handle like other spinning reels. It stop exactly where you want, everytime like a baitcaster. It makes using a spinning reel for many bass lures completely doable. I'm really not sure why some people hate on kastking so much....but this is a very very nice real for the price range. With anti reverse" which is useless" cough, braid ready, smooth reeling L&R hand, bfs capable because its ultra light weight... It's a tremendous reel. I have the 500 on a spin BFS trout rod setup and another 2000 on a bass setup. Love these reels

Smooth cast and retrieve.
Just threw this on my new finesse spinning rod for bass fishing. Didn’t have much time this morning but wanted to get a few casts out with some whopper ploppers, cranks and jerks. Paired with my new rod, and Kastking 10lb braid I was able to bomb my casts further than I could imaging with these light weight lures. Looking forward to catching some lunkers and wipers this weekend with it. The retrieve was very smooth.

Great freshwater fishing!
I bought two reels for two different rods. They work great, as has thus far been my experience with KastKing. However, my problem is of my own creation. I have learned to not use greater than 12lb test monofilament line because it can cause rapid entanglement. I tried this so you don't have to.It's a great product.

A few things to note...
Couple of things to point out that I missed when ordering. 1) it doesn't come with a switch to make the reel crank backwards or lock back. There are times you need slack so with this reel you have to open bail. 2) It is small! Use this for rivers or streams. You're not casting far. 3) The handle screws on. Unlike others that have a cap on the other end this one screws on directly. Potential to loosen by back reeling is there. Or setting hook. Looks nice, feels great and reels nice. Drag is excellent too. $60 is a lot to pay for this reel.

Quality control can be hit or miss .
Quality seems to be hit or miss .I own four of these newer models and two of the original SFS Zephyr 1000 reels .I ordered another , got overnight delivery, but I’m afraid I got a reel that had been returned at least once before .The reel wasn’t in the box the way they come from the factory. When I attached the handle and turned the handle , I knew immediately I’d gotten a bad reel . The reel would hardly turn .I’m sure if this reel would have been sent back to KastKing, instead of being put back on the shelf to resale , they would have replaced it and this wouldn’t have happened, at least twice .I hope this reel doesn’t get approved to be sold again. Disappointing to be expecting a new smooth reel and get one that doesn’t perform.

Ultralight must have
Lightweight and smooth! Paired this with a 6'6 UL TFO panfish 2 rod and strung it with 4lb finesse braid with 6lb fluro leader. Dont hesitate to buy this the shallow spool helps cast 1/64-1/32oz jigs a mile. Smooth drag and was handling slab crappie and bluegill with ease. You cant beat this value for the performance. This is my 4th kastking spinning reel and all have been superb. As far as budget reels go I wouldn't go with any other brand. Im sure this reel could handle big bass. If you are lookin for a ultralight reel pull the trigger and get one of these! God bless and tight lines!

My favorite reel.
This reel has quickly become my favorite reel. It's perfect for those finesse fishing techniques needed to catch fish through those hot summer months. The drag is quite smooth. I hooked into a 3lb. Large mouth on a drop shot on a 104°f day and there was no stop and go stutter to the drag which can cause your line to snap. The reel handled landing the fish perfectly. The reeling action It's self is smooth. It casts a mile. I have a full spool of line on it plus a 6ft leader, and I can easily cast the entire spool out. I have caught several fish on it and it has not let me down. I would buy again and I have definitely reccomended it to my friends. The price is phenominal based on what you get. I started research for a finesse fishing rig on a budget when I found this. Most youtubers I watched said a budget sytem for finesse fishing is going to cost about $200 for the reel and another $300 for the rod. I think they are out of touch with reality from all the free gear that gets tossed at them. This reel is perfect for a finesse set up and at $70, I don't think you're going to beat it.

Just be well aware of what you need and what you're buying.
This is fine for what it is, an inexpensive lightweight shallow spool 1000.The weight is actually impressive. I mean the capability, not the literal weight, which is very light. But I'd argue the drag is fine for 95% of ANY bass fishing, much less finesse fishing, which it easily handles. Now the bad parts. The spool is woefully small and shallow. With a measly 8lb flouro I doubt it can hold 50yd. You need to go light braid to have enough line to be versatile at all.I tried spooling more, because it does say it should be able to handle it. But I met excessive tangling, including severe knots under the spool around the center post, as other reviewers have mentioned. After trimming all the knots out and being left with a max capability of around 50yd, I find it's incredibly difficult to get any distance on a cast.Basically if you spool it to the specifications printed right on it, you'll 100% get knots, then you trim and you go straight to not spooled enough to the point where you can't cast worth a darn. And even if you do, you only have 50y or so to work with.So if you're like me and wanted a lightweight reel that could do it all, or "do it most", this is probably not the right choice. If you have a very specific finesse setup in mind it might be awesome. And finally, as I've seen with KastKing products in the past, the quality is not quite up to par. Very plasticky. Sure it might be equal or slightly better than the major brands at the same price. But I certainly wouldn't say it's tremendous value as far as build quality goes.Still, I'll give it 5 stars because people should do their research and know what they're buying. Although, it might not last. The last KastKing I bought was a Megatron that was completely destroyed and returned after a week or so. We'll see!
