XAV-AX4000 7-Inch Multimedia Receiver with Wireless Car Play/Android Auto and Maestro Ready (XAVAX4000)

The Sony XAV-AX4000 has been an excellent upgrade for my vehicle. The wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connect quickly and work flawlessly, making every drive much more convenient. The 7-inch touchscreen is bright, responsive, and easy to navigate, and the sound quality is a huge improvement over my factory stereo. Installation was straightforward, and the Maestro compatibility made integration with my vehicle features seamless. The interface is clean, modern, and reliable with no lag issues. Highly recommend this receiver for anyone looking for a high-quality multimedia upgrade!

I recently upgraded the stereo in my truck from the Jensen CAR710W to this Sony XAV-AX4000. The Jensen unit was pretty solid for about a year and a half, but after a firmware update wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay failed to connect at least 50% of the time. I was looking for something with a better screen, faster boot time, idata link maestro compatibility, and wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay. This stereo checks all of those boxes. The stereo packs quite a bit of really nice features if you use an idatalink maestro and makes my 2013 Tacoma feel like a 2022. Anyone that has used Android Auto or Apple Carplay know that especially for short trips plugging in your phone every time you get in your vehicle becomes a major pain. I'm happy to say that the wireless connection for both Carplay and Android Auto is rock solid. I have not had a single disconnect in the week I've had the stereo installed. The amount of time it takes to boot up and connect my phone wirelessly (via Android Auto or Carplay) is a total of 10 seconds. I have tested and used quite a bit of rental vehicles and my own vehicles with wireless and wired Android Auto and Apple Carplay and I have yet to come across a stereo that connects this fast other than the Sony XAV-AX9500es (which is much more expensive than this unit). I did see some groans about the anti-glare film on the screen, but for me personally it is a non-issue. It makes the screen very easy to see in direct sunlight. It's much easier to see in sunlight than my Jensen CAR710W was and the countless OEM stereos I have used in rental vehicles over the last 3-4 years. Bottom line, if you're looking for a stereo that is feature rich, fast booting, has wireless Android Auto/Apple Carplay, great sound, plenty of EQ options, and will stand the test of time go with this head unit. I'll update this review in the future if I have any issues with the stereo.

After finally getting the pinouts sorted with my very non-standard model of car and getting the camera working, I'm pleased with the Sony head unit. It was able to interface with my car's resistive steering wheel controls and it's essentially as easy to configure the controls as choosing a function to program, and clicking the button on the steering wheel to set the function. If there is one thing I which it had though, would be audio inputs, just because I'm not happy that I have an Audio input jack on the front of my dash that's now a dead jack. My OCD isn't satisfied if the jack's there and it doesn't work. Coming from a Kia with plug-in Android Auto and a wireless dongle, I was a bit surprised and concerned when I saw each time it came on that it connected to my phone via Bluetooth, then said connection was LOST, before it came online in Android Auto, until I realized this is how it handshakes with the phone. The phone connects by Bluetooth to get the handshake, then once the Android Auto is ready to connect, it disconnects the Bluetooth connection.

Overall good, especially taken in account the money compared with other 2-3 big boys. Installed on 2009 Super Duty F-250. Pros: Great sound as usually Sony does; CarPlay is flawless, so some complains here are rather biased; Boot time is very good; Has option to setup remote keys; One more extra is Maestro compatible; Great microphone; Plus some more extras no that important to me. Cons: A warning screen at boot without an option to turn off, some radios even offer customizable boot with setting car brand logo which puts Sony lagging here; Irritating is the upgrade with USB Tethering not working for my iPhone 14; The USB upgrade worked but with giving before it an error for not compatible USB media, because it tried to play it. Well, the software should be smarter than that, detecting it's under "Upgrade" menu and no need to attempt play music just at it; The screen resolution could be better. The game-changer here is the CarPlay and Android Auto. CarPlay is fast, just a small lagging of couple hundred miliseconds. Getting iPhone apps playing on a radio is a huuuge extra. The cheap remote worked fine after going through keys-setup.

I installed the Sony XAV-AX4000 in my 2009 Jeep Wrangler, and the fit was perfect once I added the installation kit. The installation itself was straightforward and immediately brought modern tech like wireless CarPlay and Android Auto to the vehicle. I also added a backup camera, and it works smoothly with the unit. The only downside for me is the interface, which feels functional but not very polished. Overall, I really like the radio and how much it improves the driving experience. What I cared about when purchasing • Needed to fit cleanly in a 2009 Jeep Wrangler (with install kit) • Easy installation • Support for adding a backup camera • Brings modern CarPlay/Android Auto features to an older vehicle

I had this radio professionally installed in my '96 Land Cruiser. Few issues: - The CarPlay is wireless (no wired option) and doesn't always connect. It connects maybe 80% of the time. Even when I go into settings and attempt to connect manually (iPhone 13 Pro, I think), it just doesn't. It then randomly connects itself after about 20 minutes. - Once connected, and then disconnected for a short time (when phone taken out of car when car is running or when stopped to get gas and radio is turned off), it won't reconnect for another 20 minutes. This happens almost every time. - When I am listening to Sirius, at times I cannot change the stations with the hard buttons. They just don't work. Then two minutes later they finally work. I bought this radio only because it had hard buttons. - Sometimes the screen is not responsive and have to hit the buttons a few times. I think bigger e-buttons would help this. - Compare to new cars, the screen contrasts are rather poor, especially the black/dark colors, especially when compared to the screens in new cars. I did upgrade the firmware and it curded dropped calls but not the other issues. Other than that, it's good. I got a little remote for it, too, which at this price should have been included. I think that had I not paid good money to have it installed, I'd return it and replace it with a unit had wired Apple CarPlay.

That is why it is on sale, no Maestro compatibility on this. Anyway, my car do not have steering inputs so ni issues with me. But its a Sony and works well. Sound is way better than stock radio.

Tengo dos semanas con la pantalla y en general estoy conforme con mi compra. Después de ver varias opciones me decidí por este estereo y está cumpliendo mis expectativas! En mi caso lo instalé en un Aveo. La instalación fue con un profesional, costó trabajo que le adaptarán el marco pero al final quedó perfecto al igual que la camara de reversa. Tanto el carplay como Android auto inalámbricos van de maravilla. Eso sí, recomiendo ampliamente instalar el último firmware disponible ya que, como todo software, soluciona algunos problemas. En conclusión todo de maravilla. En caso de algún cambio actualizaré esto. :D

Excelente componente. Tarde en tomar la decisión ya que buscaba realmente un equipo que tuviera Car Play inalámbrico. Muy responsivo respecto de la navegación. El tiempo de arranque es prácticamente inmediato incluyendo la respuesta a la reversa. Pero me sorprende el buen sonido y la calidad del display al touch. Gratamente sorprendido. Sobretodo con el respaldo y garantía de Sony México. Siempre considero esta opción además de la garantía extendida que ofrece Amazon.

Wireless CarPlay is incredible! Only giving 4 stars because sometimes (1 in 5 times or so) you have to manually reconnect it.
