The phone app from Honeywell/Resideo makes this wonderful!
See a couple of my amateur install tips at the end of my review. I just bought two of these for upstairs and downstairs to replace the hard to see, hard to program and non-wifi thermostats that came with our Carrier HVAC system. These Honeywell Thermostats are miles ahead of the ones I replaced. Install was super easy, they are easy to see and program and the touch screens (while not as good as your phone touch screens) work pretty well. The real prize with these thermostats is that once hooked up and setup they work perfect either direct touch or via your wifi using a phone or tablet app. My wife is a low-tech person and she says these are easy to use. She really is the ultimate user-friendly test at our house. So here are a couple of things I figured out during install:1) Make sure all of the power is off when you uninstall the old thermostat and install the new ones. I turned off the power to furnace and A/C but the circuits were mislabeled so the thermostat wires sparked and caused the furnace circuit board to trip due to a "short". After the install was complete and the thermostat failed to start I powered off the entire system and restarted it. The new thermostat came right up and walked me through the setup. The second one installed flawlessly because I shut the power off correctly.2)Take a pic of the thermostat wiring and also write down the wire colors because you will be hooking up the same wires to the same terminals on the new thermostat. It's simple.3) There are two apps available for your phones/tablets. The Total Comfort Connect one by Resideo was the one I liked best but there is also a Honeywell Home app that works fine. The Resideo app has more info and the user interface is really good. My wife likes the Honeywell app because it is really simple...like, up and down arrows to change temp on the front page and today's weather for our zip code. If you want to do anything else you dig for it. The Resideo has a few extras for programming a schedule. I just like the control, my wife doesn't. The beauiful part is that you can have both apps on the same phone and they all work fine together. I think Resideo took over the Honeywell home thermostat business...there is some relationship there.4) It will hook up to Alexa if you use the app. The Alexa handling of the thermostat is kinda clunky and we probably won't use it. Nice try Alexa!5) When you setup the thermostat be ready with your wifi name and password. Also you will need to set up an account at Honeywell but it only took, maybe, a minute or two. Very non-threatening!Finally, we love these thermostats. It is nice to leave the windows open when the weather is nice and with the wifi phone apps it is a snap to turn off our hvac systems without running up and downstairs and fooling around with the wall mounted thermostats. Best tech money we've spent in a long time.

Very Nice Thermostat
My old thermostat was just On/Off, Heat/Cool and Old. I'm slowly turning my home into a Smart Home, and this fit my needs prefectly. It fits very close to the wall, has a great display, very easy to install and set up. It has so many different features. It allows you to change temperature temporarily, like when you have company and you want to lower or raise temperature during their visit, but return to your normal setting after they leave without having to manaully adjust it back or forget to. You can set multiple timers/schedules, reminders for annual service and filter changes. The display can be adjusted for brightness and you can change the background color. Once connected to wifi it displays outside conditions and humidity levels inside and out. You can download their app and control it with your phone. Also, it works great with Alexa. First night after installing I was able to adjust temp by telling Alexa instead of getting out of bed ๐Great product, good price and highly recommend.

First impressions are good
I just uninstalled my second failing Nest thermostat and was fed up with them being so expensive but only lasting about a year or so. Luckily I had a "non-smart" Honeywell thermostat on hand that I could swap to that worked immediately and stopped the short-cycling issue the Nest was creating out of the blue. I really missed the remote-use features of a smart thermostat so I looked at what else Honeywell had and landed on this one. It arrived quickly and took less than 10 min to install and get working just as a stand-alone unit. It took me another 10 minutes to setup the app and smart features and I was back in business. I will say, moving from the very modern, sleek Nest system to this one makes the Honeywell app and website look very old and dated cosmetically however it has all the features I need so I'm still happy. The scheduling feature is a bit different than Nest but I like it and works for my schedule of working from home certain days and away certain days. I like the size of the display and it seems very easy to navigate. I've only had it for a few days so far so only time will tell if it continues to work well when winter hits and in years to come. Crossing my fingers.

GREAT THERMOSTAT!!
The thermostat came in as described. I replaced a second generation Nest due to end of support. Installing wasnโt bad, but the instructions that came with the unit doesnโt have all the features that it can do. I recommend to down load the manual that you can get on Amazonโs product support listed in the item description. Getting the thermostat connected to WiFi took a a while, but got it done. The app isnโt bad, but I wish that you could more, such as โvacation modeโ without having to go the thermostat. Overall, I would recommend the thermostat. As of now, it is working well. The thermostat is controlling a heat pump.

Great Smart Thermostat
A very nice looking, easy to operate thermostat. It's easy to program and/or check via the phone app, the web site, or of course the face of the device. The many options for setup and operation can be a little daunting, but it's great to have those options. Once they're selected initially, there's little need to revisit them.I got this thermostat to replace my 18-year-old Trane programmable one. Both the Amazon product description and Honeywell advised me (before and after the purchase) to check with my local utility for possible rebates on smart thermostats. I did that, and factoring in the rebate, the thermostat was an amazing bargain. In addition, a wi-fi capable thermostat like this one may make you eligible for thermostat response programs offered by some utilities.Installation was slow at first; I had a problem determining which wire in my home thermostat wiring served as G - ground; my wiring didn't have a "G". Turned out the wire I needed was available, but it wasn't immediately obvious or easy to find in the Honeywell instructions. Don't get me wrong - Honeywell provides a lot of help related to how to wire the device; it just took me a while to track down the information I needed for my particular wiring. Once that issue was solved, the installation went smoothly.A feature that is particularly nice is the thermostat's learning ability. With this, it is able to begin adjusting to a scheduled change in temperature ahead of time, rather than waiting until that time arrives to begin changing the room temp. I do not use the voice assistant feature, so can't comment on how that works. As with most smart thermostats, this one supports both heating and cooling functions and can be set to automatically switch between heating and cooling as temperatures call for. One feature that I would not pay extra for, given the choice, is the customizable color for the backlit display. I played with that at first, but once the thermostat is in operation, I find I pay little attention to the color of the display. I would have been just as satisfied with a preset non-adjustable display color. All in all, I'm very pleased with this thermostat and would not hesitate to recommend it.

Good when it works, but unreliable
The thing that keeps this from being a 5-star product is the unreliability of Honeywell's servers which connect to the thermostat to allow remote control. All communication between apps and the thermostat are routed to Honeywell's servers, which are frequently unresponsive. I know it's not a local problem because it occurs with multiple thermostats in multiple geographic locations simultaneously. The worst part about it is that you don't get any kind of failure message - it acts as if everything is fine and gives you false readings so you think it's working. Here's what happens: You use an app (web page, phone/tablet app, or Alexa) to change the thermostat setting, and Honeywell's servers report that the command was executed. In reality, the servers don't actually send the command to the thermostat - the command just gets queued. If you use the app to query the current thermostat settings, Honeywell will tell the app that the current settings are the ones in the unexecuted command rather than actually reading the thermostat itself. So you will think that the thermostat is set as requested, but in fact it was never changed. Then, hours later, Honeywell will eventually send the backlogged commands to the thermostat, overriding any manual adjustments that you may have made in the meantime. So you can never rely on the thermostat to be where you set it, even if you set it manually.During those times when Honeywell has their act together, requested changes are made with seconds and it's very convenient. Unfortunately, they frequently have problems as described above, and you may have to wait one or more days before they get it working again. These problems are well known and documented in internet complaints going back a long time. So it's not a rare, one-off problem. The potential of this product is great, and it's wonderful when everything works. But it's ruined by the frequent problems and the fact that it never lets you know when there is a problem - you just discover on your own that the thermostat isn't where you set it, and you never know when a backlogged command is suddenly going to come through and override your manual setting.Update 1/20/19 - The problems with the Honeywell server seem to be happening more often, with longer outages. Several months ago they sent an email to their customers apologizing for the problems and promising that the problem would be fixed ASAP. That never happened, and there is no reason that they will ever get their act together. Consequently, I'm downgrading this review to 1 star and I'm now looking for another, more reliable brand. Sorry to say, this thing is an expensive waste of money since Honeywell can only deliver empty promises instead of reliable service.Update 1/21/19 - As if to prove my point, Honeywell just sent out another email today. Now they're saying that their continuing outages will be intentional in order to facilitate unspecified "upates". In other words, they're aware of the problem and it's not going away anytime soon. I really recommend you go with a different brand. Here's the relevent excerpt from their email:Our services will undergo planned maintenance over the next few weeks.Start Date: January 22, 2019Weโre performing an update to our software and services to improve your experience and maintain your security. Our servers will undergo maintenance over the next few weeks, and you may experience brief intermittent connectivity. Our updates will begin taking place on January 22, and run throughout February. The downtime will be used to maintain the platform, perform upgrades, and help ensure the continued integrity and security of our services to our users.During this time, your thermostat will continue to work, but you may temporarily experience an inability to remotely manage it via your app.Update 7/6/19 - In case you were wondering if Honeywell ever got their act together, the answer is still "No". Six months later, the problem still exists. So much for the so-called "improvements" that they promised back in January. Their servers are currently down, and attempts to connect result in the following error message: "Server Error in '/portal' Application. Runtime Error. Description: An exception occurred while processing your request. Additionally, another exception occurred while executing the custom error page for the first exception. The request has been terminated. " Seriously, I recommend you go with a different brand. Honeywell is hopeless.Update 1/17/26: Six years later, and nothing has changed. They continue to have random outages of their online server, and they just announced an upcoming 76-hour outage for alleged upgrades. That's right - more than three full days that it will be unusable except by manual control. Don't waste your money on this piece of junk with non-existent support.

Remote Temp Management Works Great
I bought three of these because I wanted remote management capabilities for the temperature in my house. Why three? House is three stories, each floor has one. I went with this wifi capable unit mainly because of the look and it is made by Honeywell. I considered Nest, but I don't need or really want the learning function. I also think this looks better, but that's just me.Most newer (not really that new either) or fully remodeled have a C wire. Just how it is to support digital thermostats.Installing is fairly simple, the instructions are very helpful and include multiple setup possibilities. I do have an issue with the back plate, it is very flimsy so any pressure from the multi-conductor cable will warp the plate and cause the unit not to be completely flush with the wall. Might just take a bit of a soft touch to move things around appropriately to line up right. The thermostat looks fantastic, it is very modern with the silver frame. The color options are pretty nice also, I stuck with the default though. Again, just my opinion. There are plenty of simple and complex options which can be changed through the thermostat itself. Daily schedules, ability to set the thermostat to be the temperature you want at certain times (figures out how long it takes to change the temp), brightness adjustments, color, the list goes on. Unfortunately, almost none of the options and settings can be adjusted remotely. Hopefully this will be coming in time with app upgrades. The schedule can be set to have a heat and cool setting, but so far it appears to not work. I think it only picks which ever mode the thermostat is actually set to, it does not seem to be smart enough to switch itself. Maybe I'm wrong, but when my living room was 60 degrees most of yesterday morning, that tells me different. Again, should just be a firmware or software update to work properly. I did have one thermostat switch to heat from cool at some point a couple days ago, but it doesn't seem to switch right when it is needed. The LCD screen looks great, but doesn't work that great. I am probably comparing it unfairly to a cell phone touchscreen, but the touch sensitivity difference should not be this great. It makes the thermostat itself more difficult to change settings.Overall I am very happy with the unit, I will get each one set up how I want, it will just take time. The main reason I bought this was to change the temperature remotely, which works great. Definitely recommend, even with limited remote management of items outside of heating/cooling.

Works with Amazon Alexa
Installation was easy other than getting it set-up with the Honeywell account. I'm using it at work for a radiant tube heater. The device wasn't detected at Honeywell even though it connected to the Internet no problem. I actually left it for several months because I didn't have time to reset it to factory defaults and start over again. This is for my shop at work and the guys needed heat. So I just got around to trying again about a month ago and it is recognized now (without resetting to default). Not sure when it was recognized on my Honeywell account, might have been 2 hours later, 2 weeks later, 2 months later. Don't know because I just checked it again recently. LOL. So not sure I would hold that against them. Once it was recognized on my Honeywell account then it worked great through the app and web page; exactly as expected.Today I decided to connect it to my Amazon Alexa devices we have scattered around the office and shop. Downloaded the skill and it works great. Very simple to use. "Alexa what is the temperature in the SHOP?", "Alexa set the SHOP to 70 degrees." Works perfectly and very quickly. I like it so much that I came on here to give a review and also to buy another for the office.I read a review where someone who bought this wasn't happy with the screen. Made me take a second look at mine. It is dull when its not in use but as soon as you press the screen it brightens up. You can see this in 2 of the pictures I attached. Everything is personal preference of course and I'm not discounting what the other buyer said, but I find the screen looks great. Full disclosure, this is my first smart thermostat so I'm not comparing it to anything else.
