Liquitex BASICS Matte Varnish

I use this product on acrylic paint artwork. Easy to use, no chemical odor, applies smoothly with a soft bristle brush, dries to a smooth, moderately glossy finish. Exactly what I was looking for.

I paint with acrylic - I used to use oils until I realized how much easier acrylic were to use and clean up. Anyhow I had never protected one of my paintings before because I was scared to use this kind of thing. I bought this and decided to be brave and try it. It was a piece of cake. I painted a quick painting to sort of test this on it and it was excellent. I used a plain brush but I think moving forward I will use foam or some other way. On my test painting it was a little scary applying it because it's sort of opaque. But once you brush it, it clears up and disappears. It goes on very smoothly and dries very fast! This will give your painting a bit of a sheen to it - a little shiny. I then used this on another painting of a photograph I once took and this is where I say now I will use a foam brush or another way to apply it. While it went on fine, you can definitely see your brush strokes in it. I did straight horizontal strokes which were even and excellent but you can see it after the fact. I wasn't a fan of that but - it does look ok and protects it nicely. If anyone has an suggestions for how best to apply this to a painting please let me know!

Works well and really allowed me to get creative, which amplifies both my work and the enjoyment I have of creating. Have some fun, try the molding paste and see where it leads you!

I've used tons of different varnishes for my acrylic paintings and they all had their issues, but this is the best varnish by far! The texture is so smooth and doesn't leave lines! I use a soft camel mop brush. It's got the perfect amount of shine to it and is super durable! The bottle size is great for doing many many projects because it goes a long way! It's thin enough to be workable and doesn't leave a sticky residue after it's fully cured! I even used it to cover some dowels that I made into dotting tools and I can still use a damp cloth to wipe the paint off them without the varnish coming off! I'm going to buy the matte and satin versions too for different projects! Liquitex is definitely the best! It even works for my air dry clay projects!

Great product. Applies evenly with no bubbles or streaks. Dries to an excellent gloss finish. Really makes the color pop.
