It has Good Bones
Update: The hum is gone after adjusting the height of the pickups. Now it is perfect or as close as it gets to perfect. I would get another one if I ever lost this one.Update: Just got the replacement and it is almost perfect. This one is a keeper. Low Action, no fret buzz. no spots in the paint, no dings or nicks. The only issue is a very very very low volume hum coming through the amp if I'm NOT touching the strings. It goes away once you touch the strings or any metal point on the guitar. I would say a slight grounding issue.Got the Blue and it looked really good. The action was low and great out of the box and only 1 fret on the low E was a tad high, it buzzed, would be an easy fix. The sound from the Neck Pickup was good but the bridge pickup is dead. Check wiring etc. but all OK. Did a return and have a new one on the way. It's on the heavy side, didn't weight it but I would say 7-9 lb guitar and priced for beginners who shouldn't have an issue with the action if mine was an example, but also a good guitar for any level of player. This guitar has good bones so it could be a real beast with a few upgrades. Can't wait to get my replacement.

Good for beginners, but of course needs setting up. Here is what I did by choice, not neccessity:
Review is for GROTE Guitar Solid Body Electric Guitar with Gigbag LPYS-006 (TS) ......Keep in mind I am a beginner. Not a seasoned pro player. If you are like me, you have read the reviews, watched youtube videos about this brand etc. but the nagging question you have is....will I get a good one, that is pretty well setup when it arrives??Well, yes and no. ANY guitar you purchase, unless it comes straight from the shop that has been setup by a tech, you will have to do SOME setup. Keep that in mind. These GROTE guitars are very well made. Quality is there. Ok, on with the review...hope this helps you somewhat. This is my 2nd guitar, both inexpensive and both came from China. This is not such a bad thing. While I am just a beginner, this guitar is a big win. The fit and finish is top notch, IMHO.Shipping: It took a couple of weeks before it arrived. Shipped by UPS. Box arrived in excellent condition, and the guitar comes in the box, already in the gig bag, which, while not much padding, will provide some protection. I was surprised at the minimal padding in the shipping box, but they seem to know what they are doing, no damage to the guitar at all from shipping.Checking the quality, fit and finish of this Grote....there is one single blemish on the finish, but thats it, and its not in a noticeable spot, so all good. I gave it a really good look and inspection for flaws, due to the fact that you can return it to get another one if you end up with something wrong in shipping etc.Ok, lets get serious. How does it sound right out of the box? Is it playable?Absolutely it is, once tuned up. Lets say you ONLY tune it....is it right for a beginner?I say yes.....this is my 2nd guitar, the other one is a super strat style. This Grote is much more playable.Frets are spot on. Balled ends. Super smooth. Big difference, and that is what you are paying for. Tuners are good, better than most inexpensive guitars, and they DO hold tune. You do not need to replace them, if you don't want to. I have found locking tuners to be the best, and hold tune well, as well as being dead simple to replace strings.Ok, so what have I done to this so far, just to give you and idea on what to expect:1. Arrived and checked for obvious flaws. Check (fit and finish is great)2. Checked to make sure all is in working order...electronics, pickups etc. Check3. Bought new strings. Not that the original strings are bad, but I wanted to remove the strings and clean the fret board etc. Removed strings.4. Checked the bridge. Both pieces. Removed the screws. Bridge screws are a little loose and not tight when screwed in....not great, SO, I brought some copper tape, skinny strip, and wrapped the screw with one wrap and screwed them back in. That did the trick, and holds tight.5. Fret work is really good. I taped the neck and started cleaning with #000 3M pads. Not steel wool....since I didn't want little steel fibers everywhere. This cleaned up the frets, very light scrubbing. Then I used my dremel and with some metal polish, polished up the frets. Wow what a difference. Not that they were not shiny before, but they are very nice now. Used lemon oil on the frets, 2 coats. Cleaned up nicely.6. Locking tuners. I used Guyker Guitar Locking Tuners: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08K2P7M8P?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1 Drop in replacement. The original tuners are good, and will hold tune, so you don't really need to replace them.7. Checked neck. Had a slight bow, very slight, about half a turn on the truss rod set that straight.9. Strings. Replaced with Ernie Ball regular slinky 10's. Will see how these do, may replace with 9"s.10. Checked and set action. Checked for dead frets and fret buzz. Easy with this type of bridge.11. Set intonation. It was very easy and mostly setup perfectly. If I remember correctly, I only adjusted two strings. The rest were spot on. Love this guitar so far.Now this may seem like a lot of work if you are a beginner, like me, but watch some youtube videos, and if you are handy with tools, this is very, VERY easy to do. Take your time to get to know your new guitar.I would say total time to clean, polish, change the tuners, strings, adjust the bridge etc took all of maybe 1.5 hours, and that was taking my time to do it right. This guitar is very playable, and is a joy to pick up and play, the very little that I know how to do. I look forward to learning with this guitar. Simply love it so far. Yes, they look as good as the pictures show. I think you would be pleased with this purchase, even if you are a beginner....just take your time with setup, OR pay someone to set it up for you. Either way, totally worth it IMHO. Grote makes nice guitars, that look good, play easy and sound good. After doing all of this.....setup is great. If you are a beginner like I am, would you be OK with just a minimal setup consisting of tune and minimal checking of the neck, as far as truss rod adjustment? For the one I received, YES, absolutely. I think if this brand was more well known, this would be priced a lot higher. Check some reviews from seasoned pros. They are also buying this guitar. I really like the quality, look and sound of this guitar.

Some are great, some have fret problems
Ok, the good, Gorgeous guitar that appears to be well built with real wood. Some specs they forgot to mentionThese are stainless steel frets! This is alsi acontoured neck,12 to 20ish radius! The humbuckers are real humbuckers, BUT they aren't potted (soaked in wax), which means if you play in front of your amp you will get a loud squeal!l (also called microphonic, some people like it).Understandably the electronics are weak but usable. The tuners are actually really decent! Now the bad and the BIGGEST issue... Some of these have perfect necks and some have horrible fret work. I got one with the horrible fret work 🥺 and I knew it had some buzzing but was too busy to look at it when I got it. Past the return window I dug into it, and the bad frets were the result of someone not cleaning out the fret slots before jamming the frets into it. I can tell this was made on a Friday around 4:30pm😜. Refretted it and switched out the pickups and its a nice guitar! $1000's less than a Gibson which would probably have the same problems. So if you can get a lemon, just send it back and exchange it. Guitars have never been this decent at this price point, and mistakes happen to even the best companies. But come on , ball end Stainless steel frets on a compound radius neck? Yeah I'd buy another in a second if I needed it, I just wouldn't let the inspection slide.

Excellent for the price - some work required
I'm not a good player, just your basic beginner who likes to play. I also like tinkering with things, which was helpful with this guitar as it needed some setup work (more on that later). More expensive guitars probably have a lower chance of needing work right out of the box, something to keep in mind. My use case was I wanted a rich full jazz appropriate sound to complement my Ibanez super strat (beginner model). It certainly delivered on that. I love the tone. And it looks gorgeous - could be veneer, could be printed, no idea, but it looks great. The work needed: I swapped out the strings, intonation was ok out of the box but small adjustments (easy to do) made an improvement. I haven't played it enough to know if it will lose intonation over time, and the tuners seem OK (but I don't bend strings much). The one issue that could cause frustration for someone who doesn't want to tinker was the 8th fret was high so there were some flat/buzzy notes. Several youtube videos and purchase of some luthier tools later (about $100 worth), I was able to fix this to my satisfaction. This added to the ultimate cost to get the guitar to where I wanted it, but now I have some tools I can use on my other guitars. And I learned a lot about setting intonation and fretwork. If that's not your thing, if yours needs some work you will want to bring it to a luthier to get it into good shape. This cuts into the savings you get with this purchase - I expect for most the driver behind getting this is it's relatively inexpensive for what you get.All in am I happy? Definitely. Do I think it's better value than a beginner level name brand LP? Yes, if either a.) you win the dice roll and get one out of the factory with nothing out of spec or b.) are willing to pay for or do some additional setup to address issues. I suspect that your odds of winning the dice roll improve with the name brands, but is it worth it? It wasn't for me.As far as the pickups go, while replacing the strings and doing the fret levelling I did check out the pickups. Mine were definitely double coil pickups - there was a youtube video showing this same line of guitar where they got one that only had single coil pickups so I wanted to check. Looks like Grote stopped doing that. In terms of sound, I like the stock pickups. I might swap them out some day, but think they sound good. I wish there was some documentation on the magnets though - apparently magnet strength makes a big difference in tone (https://www.seymourduncan.com/blog/latest-updates/tonal-properties-of-guitar-pickup-magnets). If these are already Alnico II or III I probably wouldn't find any improvement in making a swap.

Amazed is understatement
Been playing guitar for over 30 years. I have owned every brand, just about. I have Gibson Les Pauls currently, but I don’t like taking them out of my home to teach lessons or gig for many reasons. I decided to try these because I love the feel and sound of a Les Paul and the other reviews left made me feel comfortable to give these a try with the price point. Here’s my HONEST review, I’m not a shrew for Grote or the Chinese government.Packing: initial thought was no way this guitar is intact. I’m used to more protective packaging, but the guitar came in a gig bag and was not broken.Out of the box: Finish was beautiful!! No scratches, cracks, cloudy areas….nothing. No sprouting frets or any sharpness. Neck felt perfect and fast. Strings were loose but not completely slacked, just enough tension.Initial playing: tuned guitar to E standard, tuners were not as tight with the turns, but I’m also picky about that. Tuned up and it stayed in tune. Checked intonation and it was spot on, which shocked me. Others have said they had buzzing initially, I had none. I had already ordered a replacement nut because of those comments and now it won’t be needed. All 3 pickup positions worked perfectly and as they should. Tried out the guitar for 10 minutes of heavy riffing and wood shedding with aggressive bends and what not. After that 10 minutes, the guitar was only ever slightly out of tune, no different than any of my American made Gibsons, Fenders, or Paul Reed Smiths would be.Final INITIAL analysis: for this price point, this is a steal. Feels and plays WAY better than any Epiphone I have ever owned. I’m going to give their ES-335 copy a try next and I’ll probably pick one or two more of these. I’ll be using these for my teaching lessons and gigging from now on.

INCREDIBLE VALUE!!! GORGEOUS INSTRUMENT!!!!!!!!!
I am absolutely DUMBFOUNDED at how utterly fantastic this instrument is for the money!! I'll list out specifics about it below:1. Fretboard and frets - the frets are BALL ended meaning they are perfectly smooth, and i simply cannot believe it for this price. Not even on very expensive guitars do you see this. The frets are all perfectly level. The neck is straight and perfect. The action is very low and it has near zero buzzing at such a low string height. It does buzz very slightly at standard tuning, but thats easy to fix with a bit of a turn on the bridge. It will only require a very tiny adjustment. The neck is a touch dry but a bit of neck conditioning oil is going to fix that easily. The back of the neck is gloss finished, but it's smooth and not grippy.2. Finish and weight - the color i ordered, antique sunburst... it's perfect. It's so beautiful. I'm very happy with this colour. The weight is solid, not overly heavy and it's balanced.3. Pickups - they sound great. I think they might actually be wax potted.4. Tuners - very stable and steady. High quality for the money.5. Strings - they are not bad at all, and i don't even feel the need to replace them immediately. I expected them to be very bad based on others comments but they are actually good.6. Accessories - they include a cord and an allen wrench. Crazy value. The case, while yes of course it feels a bit cheap, it has padding! And I don't care if it feels cheap! It's there to protect the guitar and it has pockets. I have no complaints about the case at all.In summary, I can't believe I got such an incredible guitar for such a low amount spent. This is unreal. The design on this guitar will look good in any genre. If you wanted to modify it you could, but even i bought a graphtech tusq nut to change it to, and I'm not really even sure if i want to mess with the guitar at all. It's just so perfect.

An amazing guitar desecrated by the unholy machinations of Amazon Resale
I would give this guitar 5 stars if I could and when I receive a replacement I probably will, but until I have that replacement I will review what I got. All-in-all, great guitar. Body and finish is BEAUTIFUL. Construction is solid, fittings are perfect, frets and pearl are flawless. However, I wanted to not have to wait was at that time 2 months, and grabbed the one Purple they had on resale. Like New - Still In Original Packaging, arrives in 5 days. Invoice says Condition is Mint. Cool! Somebody probably bought two on accident and sent the extra back in. 20 dollar discount. Hell yeah.NO, DEAR READER. NOT HELL YEAH. ONLY HELL.I would have taken pictures but I'll spare you the guitar gore. First and foremost - I knew this was taken out of packaging and used because the strings were not packed properly and the foam wrap around the guitar was badly torn and haphazardly shoved back around, so no, not original packaging.High E string was wound so tightly it snapped when I tried to gently de-tune it. All the other strings were clearly attempted at being put in tune, but wound way too tightly. This was done by the previous owner, as no guitar maker will ever ship a guitar out tuned like that. When the string snapped, I decided to just take all the strings off to check the pickups, as one was loose and the other was inserted at a strange angle. When the strings were off and I went to take out the pickups, I realized the neck pickup was just entirely loose inside its slot, not mounted at all, and all the screws were stripped. However had this before me went ham on the poor mounting screws with a screwdriver way too large and didn't consider that their actions will get them judged harshly when they inevitably face whatever god they worship.I get the pickup mounts unscrewed, check the bottoms, they seem fine, but then I notice something - there was absolutely no resistance when I turned them over from the wires. I look down - and they are cut. Cleanly. Cut. Both Pickups. Neck and Bridge. Their cables are cut. They are just sitting in there not connected to anything. This wasn't torn out or ripped. Clean Cuts. Somebody intentionally snipped the cables in this guitar.I can handle everything else, it's all just routine stuff and I was planning on replacing the strings and most of the electronics anyway, but I refuse to be a part of whatever profane ritual this poor instrument was subjected to by whatever maniac is the reason this thing was in Amazon Resale in the first place.Buy new, kids. The guitar is amazing and I'd honestly buy this just for the body itself. It's gorgeous, especially for this price point, but no. No no no no. You take back your cursed relic, Amazon.

Shockingly Good Quality from a Les Paul Knockoff
This Les Paul–style guitar may be a budget knockoff, but it delivers a shockingly high‑quality experience that punches way above its price tag.The first surprise hits the moment you pick it up: it has that satisfying Les Paul heft without feeling like a brick. The finish is clean, the binding is tidy, and the hardware doesn’t have that flimsy, “don’t breathe on it too hard” vibe you expect from cheaper clones. Even the fretwork is better than it has any right to be—no sharp edges, no gritty spots, just a smooth neck that’s genuinely fun to play.Plugged in, it continues the theme. The pickups aren’t boutique miracles, but they’re warm, full, and perfectly usable. You get that classic, slightly growly midrange and a surprisingly sweet neck tone that works beautifully for blues, rock, and anything that wants a bit of vintage flavor. It’s not trying to be a Gibson Custom Shop masterpiece; it’s trying to be a solid, enjoyable guitar—and it succeeds. If you’re looking for a wallet‑friendly Les Paul alternative that doesn’t feel like a compromise every time you pick it up, this knockoff is a pleasant reminder that sometimes the underdog really does deliver.
