Enjoy delicious, healthful Japanese food anytime with this stylish four-color cookbook from the author of the international bestseller Tokyo Cult Recipes , featuring 100 authentic and simple recipes to get you cooking like a pro in your own kitchen. In Simply Japanese, Maori Murota gives homes cooks the ingredients, tools, and confidence they need to easily prepare dishes that are staples of Japanese family cuisine, such as udon, soba, miso, onigiri, and tofu. Born and raised in Japan and now living in France, Maori couldn’t find the Japanese products she normally relied on due to the pandemic. To enjoy her favorite Japanese foods, she decided to try making them herself in her own kitchen. Drawing on her twenty years of experience as a caterer, she began experimenting, making batches of udon noodles, gyoza dough, and fermenting tsukemono pickles using locally sourced ingredients. The results were delicious! Maori was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to make these authentic Japanese staples. Best of all, in creating these dishes from scratch, she felt a deep connection to her mother and grandmother whom she watched make these same delicious dishes by hand while she was growing up. Combining detailed step-by-step instructions and gorgeous photos, Simply Japanese includes traditional recipes for the appetizers, soups, dinner entrees, desserts, and more Maori grew up eating in Tokyo as well as her own original dishes inspired by foreign cuisines. She also offers vegan alternatives and tips for many of the recipes, showing that a totally plant-based Japanese diet is well within our reach. Mouthwatering, full of flavor, good to eat, and good for you, the recipes in this sumptuous cookbook, illustrated with beautiful full-color food shots, will take cooks of every level, from novice to experienced, on a journey to the heart of Japanese cuisine today. Review: Great product - Great cook book covering all the basics, I highly recommended if you knew to Japanese cooking Review: Excellent easy-ish Japanese recipes - First, let me start by saying that, unlike the person who rated this cookbook one star because they thought the Kindle preview was hard to use, I had no problem reading (and making) a couple of the recipes using only the Kindle preview. In fact, it worked so well, I then bought the Kindle version of the book. And I'm glad I did. The recipes are easy to follow, fun to make (you knead the Udon dough by walking on it!) and delicious. One thing I especially like about the book is that it contains a nice assortment of recipes for Japanese-style pickles. I'm going to be cooking from this book a lot.

Amazing cookbook with so many VEGAN options!
I'm obsessed with this book! It's the kind of straightforward home cooking that I've been looking for, and since the author herself is vegan she includes a ton of vegan alternatives for many of the recipes!!! This was huge for me. I also love that she includes a lot of from-scratch instructions for how to make noodles and things - don't be intimidated! But even if you skip those, she tells you a lot about how to use the different kinds of noodles etc. and there's a lot of other recipes too. Between this book and the Miwa's Japanese Cooking youtube channel I have been making so much vegan japanese food over the last month and eating so much better :) P.S. I got the digital version because it's easy to reference on my phone when I'm cooking! The formatting is great and there's lots of helpful cross-links between recipes, too. I might get the hardcopy one day too because I love cookbooks like this and want it on my shelf, but tbh I think the digital version is actually extremely practical and I'm glad I got it so far!

The Japanese cookbook I’ve been looking for!!
I have been looking for a Japanese cookbook that has US measurements, beautiful photos, manageable but authentic recipes, and a good number of vegetarian or plant-based recipes. This book has a lot of everything and is my new favorite cookbook!! Thank you for making Japanese cooking accessible to those of us who aren’t master chefs! Haha.

Sample formatting is ridiculous
Looks interesting, but the “kindle” preview is so unusable from the table of contents forward, the frustration makes want to just skip it. How stupid.

Tasty simple recipes
This is an awesome book. I have had it for a while now and must use a recipe from it at least once a week.
